Chapter 177
Lila froze for a moment.
Asking so many questions, did this mean he was going to agree?
A smile couldn't help but spread across her face. "My best friend, Elara, a girl. Tomorrow after work. We haven't decided where to meet yet because I was afraid you wouldn't agree. So as soon as she messaged me to hang out, I asked you first."
When Alexander heard it was a girl, he relaxed easily. "Mm, go ahead."
Lila quickly nodded. "Okay, I'll reply to my friend now."
With that, she took out her phone and started typing a message.
[Okay, where should we meet?]
Elara: [Why did you take so long to reply?]
Elara: [How about Oceancrest City Shopping Center? I heard a new restaurant opened in the mall, and I want to try it.]
Lila: [It's all because of my nosy husband who's so controlling. I was afraid he wouldn't agree, so I had to ask him first before replying to you. Otherwise, what if I said yes and then couldn't go?]
Elara: [You married him, you didn't sell yourself to him. Is he treating you like his property or something?]
Lila: [What can I do? I have no power or voice, no right to stand up to him. Besides, he just bought me a bunch of stuff today and spent quite a bit of money. I think I can put up with it.]
Elara: [What did he buy you?]
Lila: [Gold jewelry and a diamond ring. He came with me to see Grandma today, and when Grandma noticed I wasn't wearing a ring, she hinted that I should have what other women have. Then my husband agreed, and after we left Grandma's house, he took me to the mall to buy them.]
Elara: [Wow, Mr. Sinclair is pretty good to you. Has he fallen for you already?]
Lila didn't know how to respond for a moment.
She knew her friend would say this, but how could that be possible?
Lila: [How could that be? He has someone he loves. And I don't need him to like me. I'm just counting down to the divorce in a year.]
Elara: [I'd advise you not to count on it too much. A year is a long time. It's not impossible for you two to develop feelings for each other.]
Looking at what Elara wrote, Lila didn't know what to think.
Lately, she did feel that Alexander wasn't as annoying as he was right after they got their marriage certificate. She'd also discovered that beneath his sharp tongue was actually a heart that wasn't so hard. But as for developing feelings and all that, she thought it was impossible.
Alexander liked Celeste. When someone has someone they like, they won't look at anyone else.
Besides, Alexander put her down every day, as if he'd ever like her!
By the time Lila finished chatting with Elara, the car had already stopped at Island Mansion.
She quickly pushed open the car door and got out.
After getting out, Lila deliberately stood in place, waiting for Alexander to get out and walk over, then walked toward the house together with him.
As he opened the door, he glanced at her from the corner of his eye. "You were on your phone chatting the whole time in the car. Did you and your friend decide where to eat?"
Lila responded, "Yes, we decided."
Alexander frowned, seemingly dissatisfied that she only answered "we decided" instead of directly telling him the address.
He quickly pressed further. "Where?"
Lila had already opened the front door. Hearing his question, she couldn't help but turn to look at him. "Honey, why are you asking so many details? Are you planning to come with me?"
Alexander answered her question with another question. "Do I look that free to you?"
"No, you're quite busy."
"Good that you know."
Coldly dropping those few words, Alexander brushed past her dominantly and entered the house.
Lila stared in confusion at his straight-backed figure, her face full of puzzlement.
