CHAPTER 164
THIRD PERSON'S POV

The hospital corridor was quiet. The fluorescent lights glowed too bright casting long shadows on the white walls. Elysia stood outside Kieran’s room, her hand stayed on the door handle. She trembled, fighting to keep herself standing to keep herself from falling

Everything that had happened rushed back, the crash, the sirens, the doctors’ voices, the words coma, brain injury, accident. Then the news of her pregnancy. It all pressed down on her like a stone she could not lift. Too much. Too heavy. Too much to carry alone.

She felt a hand touch her shoulder. She turned slowly, her mother, Elizabeth stood there. Her face was lined with worry eyes of love and sorrow.

“Come, sweetheart." Elizabeth said softly. "You need to rest. You’ve been through much.”

Elysia shook her head. Her voice cracked. "I can’t leave him. I can’t.”

“You’re not leaving him!" Elizabeth said firmly, yet gently. "You’re taking care of yourself so you can be strong for him. For the baby.”

Elysia stared at the door, her heart hurt but she knew her mother was right. She knew she couldn’t go on like this. Just thinking about stepping away from Kieran, even for a little while, felt like she was breaking a promise.

Just a little while. That’s all she asked. Just a little while to rest. Then she would come back.

They found a room nearby tucked away from the noise of the ICU. It was clean, quiet peaceful. Elizabeth helped her lie down on the bed. Her hands were careful, kind.

“Rest now, sweetheart. I’ll be here.” Her voice was soft, steady.

Elysia lay back, her eyes grew heavy, her body ached. She wanted to sleep, to shut it all out and before she drifted away she felt a tiny hand on her arm. Hope. Her daughter.

“Mama!" Hope whispered. "I’ll be here too. I’ll take care of you.”

Elysia smiled, a real smile, brief but warm. "Thank you sweetheart.”

She closed her eyes, the exhaustion pulled her under. The last thing she heard was her mother’s voice, calm, soothing, a lullaby made of love and hope.

When she opened her eyes again the room was bathed in evening light. The shadows stretched across the floor. The silence was deep.

At first she didn’t remember where she was. Then the memories came crashing back, the accident, the hospital, Kieran.

Her heart jumped. "Kieran!" She sat up fast. "I need to see him.”

Elizabeth was already beside her holding her arm steadying her. "He’s still the same, sweetheart. The doctors are watching him closely. There’s been no change.”

Elysia nodded, her throat tightened. She swung her legs over the side of the bed, her body was stiff, tired. She couldn’t wait. She had to be with him.

“I need to see him!" She repeated, stronger this time. "I need to be with him.”

Elizabeth helped her stand, holding her arm to support her. "I’ll take you. But you have to promise me, you’ll take care of yourself. For the baby. For Hope. For Kieran.”

Elysia looked into her mother’s eyes and her resolve hardened. "I promise.”

The walk to Kieran’s room was slow. Each step felt like a battle won. The hallway was quiet. The nurses’ station was dim. She stopped at the door. Her hand rested on the frame. She stared at the figure in the bed.

Kieran was still pale. Still. Surrounded by machines, beeping, humming, breathing with him. He was alive. He was fighting. Elysia could feel it. A thread of hope unbroken.

She moved closer, her steps were soft and her hand reached out. His skin was cold. His fingers were still. She sank into the chair beside him.

Her voice was a whisper. “I’m back, Kieran. I told you I’d come back.”

She took his hand, her thumb traced circles on his skin. She thought about the baby growing inside her, the life that was dear to both of them. She thought about Hope, about their family, about everything they had built together.

She thought about their laughter, their tears, their love.

“You’re going to be a father!" She whispered. "We’re going to have another baby. A little sister for Hope. You’re going to love them just like you love her.”

Her voice broke as she continued. "And you have to wake up, Kieran. You have to be there. I can’t do this alone. I can’t raise our children without you.”

The room was silent. Only the machines answered. Beep. Beep. Beep.

She stayed with him, her hand never left his. Her heart ached with love with loss.

Hours passed and the night deepened. Elysia refused to leave. She stayed by his side unwavering. She talked to him. She read aloud. She held his hand.

She told him about her day. About the trial. About the threats. She told him about her fears, her dreams, her hopes.

“I’m going to fight for you, Kieran!" She said, her voice strong. "I’m going to fight for justice. I’m going to make sure Kane pays for what he’s done.”

She pressed a kiss to his hand. Her lips lingered. "And when you wake up, we’re going to face it together. Like we always have.”

Dawn came. The first light of morning slipped through the curtains. Elysia was still there. Her head rested on the edge of the bed, her hand still held his. She had fallen asleep. The exhaustion had finally caught up.

Kieran’s hand twitched. A tiny movement. Barely noticeable. The machines beeped, steady, rhythmic, like a heartbeat that refused to stop.

Elysia didn’t see it. She was sleeping. Her face was calm. Her hand still clasped his.

The doctors would come later. They would check his vitals. Adjust his medicine. Notice the changes, the signs of progress. They would tell Elysia there was hope. That he was fighting. That he was coming back.

For now in the quiet of the morning there was only the soft light. Only the hum of machines. Only the silent promise of a day.
