Chapter 10

I’ve never been kissed before, so I wasn’t sure what to do when his lips touched mine. Only let him do his thing, moving his lips against mine pulling my bottom lips between his lips as he sucked on it.

It was pure bliss, fireworks going off in my head as I drank from his lips and he mine. It wasn’t until I was out of air that he pulled away and I touched my lips slightly afterward.

“What?” he asked, looking at me with uncertainty “Did I do something wrong?”

I shook my head, how was I going to explain the fact that I’ve never been kissed by another before. That at the age of seventeen I was still a virgin; it was embarrassing enough as it is.

“You’ve never been kissed before?” He asked this time, the blush forming on my cheeks answered the question for me.

“Oh shit! I never would have thought, that was why you didn’t move at all. I was beginning to think my several practices failed me” he rambled all at once, though I’m sure he was speaking to himself and not me.

I put my hand on his shoulder “It’s alright, I enjoyed it” I said quietly, so he wouldn’t get the wrong impression from my lack of expression.

His response was another kiss, this time I followed his lead and moved my lips against his and with time I got the hang of it. I pulled his top lips just like he had done before and sucked on it, he tasted like apples, the one he had fed me earlier.

With every sip of him I got, the more I wanted him. he was like a drug, the more I had of him, the more that I wanted from him.

The kiss grew with more urgency as his arms wrapped me, making my entire front push up against him. knowing this was my only chance, I let my palm roam his chest, the hardened nature of the skin beneath making me sigh, he was perfect.

He suddenly stopped, pulling away from me like I burned which made me hurry “Did I do anything wrong?” I asked, hoping I didn’t injure him with my inexperience.

His face looked like he was going through pain, and I hated that it was because of me, I knew I should have stayed away from him.

He was om his feet “It’s not you Elizabeth, you did an amazing job. I just let things go further than they already have” he said, avoiding my eyes which was unlike him.

Before I could apologize to him he walked away, ran away should be more the word because in a blink of an eye he was gone and I was there, half laying and half sitting on the grass where he had left me.

With shame and embarrassment I put my clothes back on, half expecting people to come out and tell me that he played a prank on me.

I thought about what happened so many times as I turned and tossed on my bed, unable to sleep with the thoughts of Damon plaguing my mind.

The next morning I got dressed as fast as possible, not even bothering to get breakfast at the cafeteria. I was even the first in the class.

I kept glancing at the door as people trooped in but there was no sign of Damon whatsoever. Defeated I put my head back on my locker and waited for the class to come to an end because it was going to be pure torture.

It wasn’t until the seat beside me was pulled that I looked up, no one ever sat close to me in class. My eyes almost fell out of their sockets when Damon sat down beside me, pulling his desk closer so there was barely any space left between our seats.

He turned to me with a smile and winked and in that second, all the worries I had about him were gone.

“Miss me?” he asked, his voice low as Mr. Faraday, our literature teacher opened his book to mark his attendance.

I wanted to nod but I didn’t, I was supposed to be angry at him for leaving me at the river without an explanation what was wrong.

He noticed my sulking and smiled, reaching ever slightly to put a kiss on my cheek “I’m sorry about yesterday, I didn’t leave because of you—something just came up” he said.

That was when I nodded and let my huge smile out to play, never in a million years did I imagine that someone like him would apologize to me.

“Now did you miss me?” he asked again, his voice a tad lower and husky as he watched me shiver, knowing just how his voice made me feel.

“Yes” I squeaked, making Mr. Faraday send a glare my way before he continued teaching. Damon chuckled so low that only I could hear him, at this rate I was never going to pay enough attention in class especially with him so close to me.

“Now you’ll have to pair up for this assignment” Mr. Faraday announces making my blood freeze. I hated partnered projects, no one ever paired with me and that was a humiliation I didn’t want to deal with.

“Stop overthinking it” Damon whispered “We’re practically dating so we’re already partners” he said, and I calm down, he really was a heaven sent.

“If you would stop giving each other gooey eyes for a minute” Mr. Faraday said with a glare, but Damon paid him no mind. I on the other hand started to pay attention.

“You’ll write a poem with your partner that you’ll both perform in the auditorium for the entire school” he continued “You can use any time period technique, there’s no limit to how much you can write or how creative you can be. spend the rest of the class working on your ideas, the assignment is due in two weeks and…I’m out here” he finished.

By the time everyone started complaining he was already out of the door.

I could solve any math with my eyes closed but when it came to literature I was a lost case. I could barely write my essays back in high school, what am I supposed to do now?

“Do you always worry too much?” Came Damon’s voice as he turned completely to me “Lucky for you, your boyfriend is a close friend of Shakespeare and would waste no time in whipping something for our project.”

I laughed at that “Shakespeare, really?” I asked with a slight tilt of my head so I could see all of his face.

“Yeah, he’s a friend of a friend” he said with his face so stern that I could easily believe he was saying the truth.

I nudged his arm, “we better go to the library to see what we can find in those poetry books” I said, packing up my bag.

“The library it is then, there’s plenty of privacy for all that I want to do to you” he said, his eyes turning a shade darker, and I had a feeling I knew the type of privacy that he was talking about. I slung my bag over my shoulder and stood up.

“We’re going to the library to start our assignment” I said, it was more an assurance to myself that that was actually all we were going to do. He stood up after me, slipping my bag out from my shoulder and carrying it.

“Let’s go” he said, removing his chair to give me room. We walked down the way and as people watched I held his hand tighter, if declaring me as his girlfriend was bad, holding my hand and carrying my bag was way worse.

When we got to the library he led me all the way to the back where there were no students lingering around. He dumped our belonging on the table and sat beside me, his scent immediately engulfing my nose when he put an arm around my shoulders and pulled me close.

It reminded me instantly of the river and what we had done there, I put my hands on my cheeks so he wouldn’t see me blush, I was doing a lot of that lately.

“I told you to let your hair down” was the first thing he said to me, taking hold of my hairband and pulling it away from my hair. Without the band my cascaded down on my back, resting softly on the chair.

He combed his fingers through it and pushed the sides behind my ears so it wouldn’t fall into my face.

“Thank you” I said, the tease on his lips let me know that I wasn’t the only thinking of the river. “We should go get some books, so we’ll go through it” I said suddenly, the tension between us beginning to go on an all-time high.

“That sounds like a plan” he said, getting up and leading the way. I went into the literature aisle so I could comport myself and my raging emotions. I took a couple deep breaths before turning to the shelves.

I didn’t know what I was looking for, so I just pulled out the first book that caught my eye. I pulled out another and suddenly there was a face in front of me, making me yell and take a step back.

It soon morphed into Damon’s laughing face “You’re so damn easy to scare” he said, holding the shelf to keep himself from going into a laughing fit.

“That’s not funny” I said with a pout and as I walking back to our table my foot caught on the edge of the shelf and I stumbled before falling face first on the floor. No pain came and when I opened my eyes Damon was holding me and I didn’t actually fall, he held me till I was steady on my feet—that was a close one.

“How did you get here so fast?” I asked him, adjusting my clothes.

“I was already coming over here when you started to fall” he said, scratching the back of his neck which was strange. He was acting the opposite of what I knew him as. Before I could ask him another question he ushered me back to our table.

“I already picked out a few books that might have something of use” he said, rushing his words as he started rapidly flipping through the book. something was definitely wrong to have him so unsettled.

“Oh shit” he muttered as the edge of the paper sliced his thumb, forcing out crimson blood. I reached for his hand, but he pulled it away from me.

“It’s nothing to worry yourself about, it’s just a tiny cut” he said, holding his finger away from him.

“That wasn’t tiny, it’s bleeding Damon” I argued, needing to tend to the wound before it became worse or got infected.

“Liz, you really don’t have to…”

I reached over while he was still talking and grabbed his finger to inspect it but there was nothing. No cut, no blood, no nothing.

“Damon…where is the injury?” I asked, becoming confused. I took his other hand in mine in case I didn’t get the thumb right but there was also no injury there.

“There was blood…” I muttered but Damon stayed quiet. When I turned to him I realized just how close we were, I could see the tiny gold sparks that swarm in his blue eyes.

My eyes strayed to his lips, betraying my resolve not to think about the kiss yesterday and just like I was starved of a drug I had the intense need to kiss him right there. To capture his lips in mine and drink from the cup he generously offered me.

Just when I thought I might die, he dipped his head and claimed my lips in a kiss, instantly putting me put of my misery.
