Chapter 93 The Cold War, She Wants to Keep the Child
On the Plane.
Bethany plopped down next to Henry, asked for a blanket to cover her legs, leaned against his arm, and looked all curious, "Henry, did you and Diana have a fight or something?"
"Nope."
"Well, she hasn't even glanced your way since I saw you two."
"Then you must need glasses."
Bethany chuckled instead of getting mad, "Didn't think Mr. Spencer could get down in the dumps. That's a rare sight."
Simon, sitting on Henry's other side, piped up innocently, "Dad, did you really have a fight with Diana?"
Henry's face got even darker.
Meanwhile, Juniper was having a blast seeing Henry all moody. She turned to Diana beside her, "Diana, did you and Henry have a spat?"
"No."
Diana was super confused. This kid had thrown all her plans out the window, and she needed time to rethink her life.
"He must've ticked you off," Juniper said with a grin.
Diana thought Juniper would try to smooth things over, but instead, she said, "Don't let him off easy."
"I'm telling you, you can't spoil men."
"Otherwise, they think we can't live without them, that the world stops turning without them. Don't put up with their crap. Women, never sell yourself short."
Diana smiled and nodded.
Juniper had been itching to put Henry and Gavin in their place. Those two brothers were both so full of themselves. Now they're sulking, serves them right!
Oliver, seeing Diana and Henry on the outs, thought his chance had come. He ignored Clara beside him, staring at Diana with a creepy look.
The plane landed at Evergreen City Airport. After Diana grabbed her luggage, she said goodbye to everyone.
"Diana, leaving already?" Juniper was a bit surprised, thinking she'd at least come home with them for a meal, "Where you headed? We can give you a ride."
"Thanks, but my friend's picking me up," Diana said with a smile.
"Diana, you're really not coming with us?" Simon looked at her, all sad.
"I'll come hang out with you once I'm settled," Diana patted Simon's head.
"You better not be lying!"
Simon said, sticking out his pinky, making Diana promise.
When Diana left, she glanced at Henry and just said goodbye.
Henry just watched as Diana walked away.
Elodie was already waiting at the exit, holding a sign with Diana's name on it. When she saw her, she gave her a big hug.
But behind Elodie, Diana saw a familiar face, "Caleb?"
"I'll help you with your luggage," Caleb said.
Henry just stood there, watching her leave in Caleb's car, his face dark and stormy, like a thundercloud ready to burst.
"Diana's amazing, young, smart, and beautiful," Juniper said with a smile, "Lots of people like her, she doesn't have to pick you."
Juniper twisted the knife in Henry's heart again.
Clara knew Henry was in a foul mood, so she didn't go back to The Spencer Mansion with him, just saying she'd visit Seraphina with Oliver another day.
As she left with Oliver, Clara couldn't help but snark, "I've never seen Henry this messed up before. Diana really knows how to shake things up."
Oliver didn't say a word, but his mind was racing: Who the heck was that guy who picked Diana up?
Diana crashed at Elodie's rented apartment for now. It was a one-bedroom, but it didn't feel cramped with the two of them.
Caleb didn't come in, just dropped the luggage at the door and took off.
"Thanks, Caleb. I'll treat you to a meal another day," Elodie said as she saw him off. After he left, Diana asked softly, "Why'd you call Caleb?"
"You came to Evergreen City, I got too excited, blabbed about it to some classmates, and Caleb overheard. He insisted on driving me to the airport, so I thought, free ride, why not?"
After Elodie finished, she switched gears, "What's up with you and Mr. Spencer? The vibe was super weird."
"I'm pregnant."
Elodie looked like she'd seen a ghost, "Is the kid not his?"
"It is his!"
"He doesn't want it?"
Diana gave a bitter smile, "I haven't told him yet, but he said he doesn't plan to have another kid right now."
"He already has a son, not wanting another makes sense. In big families, they're scared the stepmom will treat the kid badly."
Elodie sighed, "So what are you gonna do?"
"I want to have the baby myself."
After the Windsor family mess, Diana was all alone, no family left in the world.
Diana couldn't bear to abort this child connected to her.
"Diana, have you really thought this through?" Elodie frowned, "This is no joke."
"It's my body, whether to have the baby or not, only I can decide." Diana had been through so much lately, she wasn't the girl who could be easily pushed around anymore.
Elodie didn't expect Diana to say such things. She was usually soft and easygoing, but she actually had a strong will and opinions.
Elodie swallowed, "So, are you gonna tell Henry?"
"Or are you planning to run away with the pregnancy and have the baby in secret?"
"And then make him regret it and chase after you again?"
Elodie had already imagined a bunch of TV drama scenarios.
Diana interrupted her daydreaming, "His earlier comments were made without knowing I was pregnant. I want to tell him and see his reaction."
"What if he insists on not wanting the kid?" Elodie asked.
"Then I can do without him too."
Juniper was right, don't sell yourself short. No one in this world can't live without someone else.
Elodie was shocked, "No dad, just the kid? I think that's doable."
On the other side, Henry had just gotten back to Evergreen City, and a few friends wanted to welcome him, booking a spot at the club.
Henry looked like a storm cloud, didn't drink or smoke, just sat in the corner, as if the whole world owed him money. His friends exchanged glances and could only look at Bethany.
"Bethany, what's up with Henry?"
Bethany, sipping on iced cola, said straight up, "He's had a love setback."
Gavin looked at Henry, "Got dumped?"
Gavin added, "I heard Diana's about to inherit millions. With that kind of money, she could find any kind of guy. Does she think you're too old and have a kid?"
Henry's face got even darker.
