Chapter 214

Chapter 214

Victoria turned to look at Sophie. "Are you okay?"

Sophie knew her face must look terrible right now and shook her head.

"Are you feeling sick?" After Matthew got in the car, Victoria said to him, "Matthew, take Sophie to the hospital."

"I'm fine, I'll be okay after I go home and sleep." Sophie felt slightly better after throwing up.

Matthew said nothing and drove faster.

He called Joshua and told him to meet them ahead to take Victoria back to the Moore Mansion.

Victoria had no complaints about his arrangement.

"Just let Joshua take me back." Sophie didn't want to trouble Matthew to drive her.

Joshua's car arrived shortly, and when Sophie was about to get out, she noticed the back door was locked.

Just as she was about to ask Matthew to unlock the door, Victoria had already pushed open her door. Matthew also got out of the car, helped Victoria into Joshua's car, and specifically reminded Matthew to make sure he took Sophie to the hospital.

Joshua drove off with Victoria.

Matthew got back in the car. With the door closed, only the two of them left.

"Truly, there's no need to put yourself out. I can make my own way back." Sophie didn't want to get involved with him again.

Matthew ignored her and drove straight to the hospital.

Sophie didn't want to go, but Matthew insisted on taking her.

He went to register for her. The staff asked which department, and Matthew blurted out, "Gynecology."

Sophie was shocked and stared at Matthew. "Why are you registering for gynecology? I just need gastroenterology."

Matthew had already registered and grabbed her hand to go find the gynecology department.

"No, my stomach is upset..."

"You threw up." Matthew stopped. "Aren't you pregnant?"

Sophie's eyes widened; she had no idea such a notion could spring from his head.

Seeing her freeze, Matthew gripped her hand tighter. He was nervous inside, and there was something else, but he couldn't figure out what it was right now.

"I'm not." Sophie couldn't let him mess around like this and refused to go to the gynecology department no matter what. "I just drank too much with Jane last night, and today, with the traffic jam, I got carsick and threw up. What pregnancy?"

"Are you sure you're not?" Matthew frowned.

"Of course not." Sophie pulled her hand away. "Stop messing around, let me sit down."

Matthew wasn't sure now, so if she wanted to sit, he'd let her sit.

Her face looked better than before, but she still seemed weak.

"It wouldn't hurt to get checked."

Matthew was persistent. He was just worried Sophie might be pregnant.

After all, not all birth control methods are one hundred percent effective.

"The doctor will laugh at us." Sophie was speechless. "Don't I know myself whether I'm pregnant or not?"

Suddenly, Sophie froze.

Matthew frowned. "What's wrong?"

"It came." Sophie actually wanted to laugh now.

"What?"

"My period came."

Sophie glared at Matthew. She was too lazy to deal with him and grabbed her bag from his hand. She knew it was coming these past few days and always kept pads in her bag.

Coming out of the restroom, Matthew glanced at her. "It really came?"

"Why didn't you follow me in to see for yourself?" Sophie was beyond speechless.

Sophie walked past him, didn't see a doctor, and went straight out of the hospital.

Matthew caught up, grabbed her hand, and pulled her into the car.

With the door closed, Matthew finally realized what that thing beyond nervousness was.

It was excitement.

When she was so certain she wasn't pregnant, he felt a bit disappointed.

Matthew didn't say anything else the whole way.

Sophie had no energy either and leaned back against the seat with her eyes closed.

The car drove into the underground parking garage. Matthew parked the car and glanced at the rearview mirror.

Suddenly, she opened her eyes.

"We're here?" Sophie pushed open the car door. "Thanks."

Matthew didn't move.

Sophie got out of the car and closed the door. She wasn't feeling well and walked slowly.

She pressed the elevator button, her body swayed, and her arm tightened.

She looked up. Matthew was standing beside her.

"You haven't left yet?"

Matthew didn't want to talk to her. He hadn't wanted to care about her either, but he couldn't help it.

The elevator door opened as people came out. Matthew pulled her hand to move aside.

After entering the elevator, Matthew pressed the floor button.

He was still holding Sophie's arm.

Sophie was too lazy to say anything more.

"Have you and Victoria set a wedding date?" Being in such a small space with him, it would be awkward not to say something.

Matthew gave a cold laugh. "What? You want to attend?"

"As long as you send me an invitation, I'll definitely come." This was the truth.

"You're quite generous."

Sophie smiled. "Of course. If you don't invite me, I won't come."

Matthew's lips were full of mockery.

The elevator door opened, and Matthew practically dragged Sophie out.

Sophie felt he didn't seem like he wanted to take care of her at all, there was no gentleness whatsoever.

She opened the door and turned back to say, "Thank you."

Matthew stood still, staring straight at her. His dark eyes were so deep you couldn't see the bottom, and it was impossible to tell what he was thinking.

Sophie avoided his gaze and went inside. She turned to close the door but felt it was a bit rude.

He had kindly brought her back and hadn't left yet, and she was just going to close the door on him—that didn't seem right.

But she couldn't very well ask him to come in and sit, could she?

"Do you need something else?" Sophie asked cautiously.

Matthew knew she was probably dying for him to get lost right now.

He swallowed. "Want me to leave?"

Sophie smiled awkwardly. "I want to sleep, and it's not convenient to keep you here."

Matthew really understood how heartless women could be when they changed their attitude.

Sophie was really tired. After breaking out in that cold sweat earlier, if she didn't take a shower, change clothes, and get a good sleep, she would definitely catch a cold.

But Matthew seemed not to understand what she meant and just stood there refusing to leave.

Sophie didn't want to gamble with her health. She was alone, and if she got sick, there would be no one to take care of her.

She had to take care of herself.

She pushed the door with both hands. "You took care of me today, and I'll remember that. I'll treat you and Victoria to dinner another day."

Looking down and not at his expression, she forcefully closed the door and finally breathed a sigh of relief.

She quickly took a hot shower, changed clothes, lay on the bed wrapped tightly in the blanket, and closed her eyes. But Matthew's sullen face kept appearing in her mind.

No need to think about it, after she shut the door in his face just now, his expression wouldn't be pleasant.

Pushing that sullen face out of her mind, she fell asleep soon after.

Her head felt fuzzy. Sophie knew she definitely had a cold and fever—dry mouth, burning all over, feeling terrible.

She wanted to open her eyes, but her body had no strength.

Suddenly, something cool touched her forehead.

Whose hand was touching her forehead?

She struggled to open her eyes. It was Matthew.
