Chapter 154
Sophie saw the message but didn't reply.
Didn't say anything when leaving, but now knows to say something when coming back.
Emily came in after her shower and said, "I took time off work, planning to stay and hang out with you for a few more days."
"Won't that affect your work?" Sophie put down her phone.
"No, it won't." Emily lay on the bed, looking at Sophie. "It's been so many years since we've slept in the same bed."
Sophie thought about it seriously. "I guess so."
"If there were no men, we'd definitely be true love."
"We're true love even with men." Sophie turned on her side, smiling at her. "I'm so lucky to have met you."
Emily also turned on her side, facing her. "Me too."
The two smiled at each other.
"How about we just be together?" Emily raised her eyebrows mischievously. "Forget men."
Sophie laughed. "Sure."
Emily reached out to touch her waist.
Sophie jumped. "What are you doing?"
"I just want to feel how soft your waist really is."
"Emily, stop messing around!"
"I'm only touching your waist, not your chest. Or should I touch that too?"
"You pervert! Hahaha..."
"Matthew's so lucky. I'm going to touch you just to piss him off. Ah! Sophie, you're touching my chest, I'm going to fight you!"
The phone that had fallen to the floor was vibrating, but Sophie had no idea.
The countryside morning was filled with all kinds of animal sounds - no alarm clock needed, you'd wake up naturally.
Emily yawned as she got out of bed and picked up Sophie's phone.
"Several missed calls."
Sophie rubbed her eyes and took the phone to check.
From Matthew. Five missed calls.
"Who called?" Emily asked, seeing her staring at the phone.
"Matthew."
"Did he finally remember he has a wife?" Emily said sarcastically.
Sophie put down the phone, casually tied up her hair, and got out of bed.
Emily went to wash up while Sophie looked for clothes.
Matthew's messages and calls left Sophie completely unmoved.
She had long known that her relationship with Matthew wasn't solid - something like this was bound to happen sooner or later.
Emily came out after washing up. "I specifically warned Joshua yesterday not to tell Matthew where you are."
"It doesn't matter if he told him, he won't come anyway." Sophie changed clothes and went to wash up too.
Downstairs, she saw Joshua sitting with a bowl, eating noodles.
Carson was chatting with Joshua. From their conversation, you could tell Joshua wouldn't start topics on his own.
"Sophie, I heard you got married. Why didn't you bring your husband?" Nola was very enthusiastic toward Sophie.
Sophie smiled. "He's busy with work."
"Busy is good, busy means making money." Nola's eyes were full of smiles, then she glanced at Emily and said, "Emily, when are you and Joshua getting married? Before marriage, you should meet his parents, right?"
Emily's mood soured as soon as she heard this.
Emily said, "Mom, I'm not thinking about marriage right now."
"How can that be? Let me tell you, within these two years, while your relationship is good, just get married. The longer you drag it out, the more things can change." Nola went on and on.
"Mom!" Emily got angry.
Nola frowned. "Why are you yelling at me? I'm doing this for your own good. You already brought him home, and yesterday you met so many relatives and friends. I already told everyone you're getting married by the end of the year."
Emily was in disbelief. "Mom, how could you do this?"
"What did I do? Aren't I doing this for your own good? Once you're married, you won't have to worry. Even if you divorce later, you can still get some assets." Nola could tell Joshua had money - even if they divorced, it wouldn't be a loss.
Emily was too angry to eat breakfast.
Sophie hadn't expected Nola's thinking to be like this either.
"Haven't you thought about it - if we can't get married by the end of the year, when you've already told everyone, whose face will be lost?" Emily tried to calm herself down.
"So you need to make him marry you." Nola seemed unable to understand what Emily was saying. "As long as you get married by the end of the year, no one will laugh at us."
Emily was shocked speechless.
Looking at her mother's domineering attitude, Emily felt powerless.
Sophie sat to the side, feeling very awkward.
She wanted to help Emily, but felt she had no right to get involved in someone else's family matters.
Not helping though, she really couldn't stand listening to this anymore.
"Nola has a point."
Sophie spoke gently, and since she was agreeing with Nola, Nola immediately looked at Sophie and nodded. "Sophie is so sensible."
Emily looked at Sophie, puzzled.
Sophie continued, "While the relationship is good, getting married early makes sense. Marriage doesn't stop you from continuing to get to know each other."
Nola nodded repeatedly. "That's exactly what I mean."
Emily didn't believe Sophie would make things worse, so she kept listening.
"Anyway, if it really doesn't work out later, just divorce." Sophie looked at Emily, her eyes gleaming with cunning. "Getting married and divorced is so normal nowadays."
Emily still didn't understand what Sophie was trying to say.
Nola's expression had already softened. "See, this is normal thinking."
"Joshua really is pretty good - tall, handsome, and rich. Marrying him wouldn't be bad." Sophie praised Joshua some more.
Nola smiled. "Yes, I think he's great."
"But..." Sophie deliberately looked outside, as if afraid someone might hear.
Nola looked curious. "But what?"
"Nola, I think Emily could find someone even better." Sophie kept her voice very low when saying this.
Emily stared at Sophie.
Nola frowned. "Even better?"
"Keep your voice down, it wouldn't be good if Joshua heard." Sophie said softly. "Emily's still young, and big cities are full of rich people. Don't rush to marry her off, wait a bit longer."
Nola thought about it seriously - big cities really weren't short of rich people, but could Emily find someone better than Joshua?
"You have to believe in your daughter." Sophie was very certain. "Don't rush into marriage, take it slower. First, to understand Joshua better, and second, to see if she can find someone better than him. Just keep Joshua as a backup option."
