Chapter 110
Sophie had been soaking in the water for a long time.
Matthew stood outside, staring at the bloodstain on the sheets, his heart clenching tight.
He yanked off the sheets and tossed them aside, then called the hotel staff to bring fresh sheets.
After taking care of all that, he walked back into the bathroom.
Sophie had her eyes closed, the red marks on her body rippling in the water.
Sensing someone there, Sophie opened her eyes.
"Don't soak too long." Matthew walked over with a clean towel and helped her up. "Go lie down on the bed."
Sophie still wasn't used to him seeing her like this. She crossed her arms over her chest, but that left her lower body exposed, making her very uncomfortable.
"Those marks on your body. I left them all." Matthew glanced over her entire body. "We're still married, no need to hide."
At his reminder, Sophie looked down. The red marks between her legs looked even more vivid in the water.
Sophie's mind went blank.
Matthew simply picked her up, ignoring the water dripping everywhere.
The towel was pointless now.
The water from her body ran down Matthew's chest and soaked into the towel around his waist, warm and wet, making his body heat up instantly.
Matthew placed her on the bed and pulled off the towel from his waist to dry the water on her body.
Sophie's eyes happened to land on his waist area, and with just a slight glance, she could see his private parts.
Matthew was completely comfortable with it, not feeling anything was wrong at all.
After drying her off, he wrapped the towel around her again.
It was both awkward and somehow a bit funny.
Matthew laid out all her clothes - underwear and outerwear - on the bedside. "If you're tired, sleep a bit more. If not, wait for me. I'll take you out to look around in a bit."
Sophie didn't want to talk.
Her voice sounded terrible right now.
She burrowed under the covers, turned on her side, and stopped looking at Matthew.
Seeing this, Matthew walked into the bathroom.
Sophie let out a deep breath.
The soreness in her body and the dull ache at the top of her thighs reminded her of what she'd done last night.
They were about to get divorced - how did they end up sleeping together?
She didn't know if she'd been crazy at the time.
She squeezed her eyes shut, but the images that had been blurry before now played back crystal clear in her mind, those embarrassing movements one after another.
And Matthew, too.
What had gotten into him?
The more Sophie thought about it now, the more regretful she felt, completely different from her carefree attitude before doing it last night.
Her phone was vibrating.
Sophie picked it up - it was Emily calling.
She'd left the country without telling anyone. Seeing Emily's call, she both wanted and didn't want to answer.
After it rang for a long time, she answered.
"Why'd it take so long to pick up? Want to come out for late-night snacks?"
It was just dawn here, but back home it was nighttime.
Sophie sighed. "I can't make it."
"What's wrong with your voice?" Emily's sharp ears immediately caught something off. "Do you have a cold?"
Sophie slapped her forehead. She'd forgotten about that.
"Yeah."
"Is it bad?" Emily was worried. "I'll come see you."
"No need," Sophie said anxiously.
"Is Matthew there?"
"Yeah." He was indeed there.
"Alright then. At least he's still your husband; he should take care of you." Emily didn't suspect anything and believed her.
Sophie wasn't in high spirits. She didn't want to hear her own voice either - it sounded awful.
After saying a few words to Emily, she was about to end the call.
"Emily." Sophie suddenly called out to her.
"What is it?"
Sophie bit her lip, thought for a moment, and said, "I'm not in the country."
"Huh?"
"I left the country."
"What?"
Sophie briefly explained how Matthew had brought her abroad.
Emily understood. "He doesn't want the divorce, right? He wants to fix things with you?"
Sophie didn't know.
But last night, their relationship had changed in a real way.
"Don't worry about all that, just see how he acts. Anyway, whatever decision you make, I support you." Emily said with certainty.
After ending the call, Matthew came out of the bathroom too.
Sophie couldn't face him right now.
She didn't know how things had developed this way.
"Still not asleep?" Matthew saw her put down her phone and asked.
Sophie shifted and closed her eyes without saying anything.
Matthew walked over and crouched by the bed, looking at her. "Are you hungry? Want to eat something? I'll have someone bring it in."
His gentleness and consideration right now made Sophie think she wasn't the only one possessed by a ghost - he was too.
Sophie still didn't move or open her eyes.
Seeing this, Matthew didn't push it.
He got on the bed from the other side and lay behind her, hugging her from behind.
This kind of action was something only very intimate people would do.
Sophie's heart still couldn't calm down at his intimate gesture.
Sophie felt very hungry.
After a whole night of activity, her energy was completely drained.
Sophie's stomach kept growling. She couldn't sleep at all.
She moved her hand from her waist and shifted to the side.
As soon as she moved, his arm tightened around her waist and pulled her back.
"Where are you going?" Matthew's voice was in her ear.
"Looking for food."
Hearing this, Matthew let her go. "You stay here, I'll bring it back."
He got out of bed, put on his clothes, grabbed his phone, and went out.
Sophie really didn't want to move either - her body felt weak.
She lay there for a while, then didn't put on the dress Matthew had prepared, but instead put on the hotel bathrobe.
That dress wouldn't cover the kiss marks on her neck.
Before long, Matthew came back.
He was carrying a bag in his hand with his phone to his ear, on a call.
Matthew put the bag on the table and took out the food containers.
"You handle things over there. That's it for now."
He put down his phone and called to Sophie. "Come eat."
Sophie's stomach was so hungry right now that she went over as soon as she smelled the food.
They were supposed to be here traveling, but ended up eating takeout in the hotel room.
Yet somehow, it tasted really good.
Matthew could tell she was truly hungry. He waited until she finished eating before he started eating.
Sophie was full and satisfied, and much of her strength had returned. She watched Matthew eating the food and dishes she'd left.
They'd already done the most intimate thing, so his eating her leftovers wasn't strange.
It was amazing that she would sleep with him at a time like this, and be so unable to stop.
Thinking back on her state of mind at that moment, she really couldn't figure it out.
Maybe it was because of this city's passion and openness, or maybe it was some primitive inner desire. Anyway, she couldn't find a specific reason - it just happened.
Suddenly, Sophie thought of something.
Her expression turned panicked. She quickly got up, grabbed her phone, and headed for the door.
"Where are you going?"
"Out for a bit."
Sophie had almost forgotten - they hadn't used protection last night.
The only thing they'd done was pull out.
But that method was basically useless.
"Wait for me." Matthew put down his fork and followed her out of the room. "Where are you going?"
