Chapter 57 Quarrel

Chapter 57 Quarrel

Emily's POV

I cut him off coldly, "Why did she follow us here?"

Christopher's smirk faded, that cheap grin disappeared, replaced by a serious expression as he looked at me. "Her mother got cancer years ago and passed away. After that, she's been living with my mom, so..."

As he spoke, he placed his hand on top of my head, gently rubbing it, like coaxing a child.

"Don't worry, I'm here. No one can bully you."

Feeling the touch on my head, I instinctively slapped his hand away.

A moment later, I watched his hand just hanging there in mid-air, not pulling back. I stared at that hand for two seconds, feeling an inexplicable tightness in my chest. Regret?

Probably.

But that feeling didn't last long, because Christopher reached up again.

"Won't let me touch? Well, I'm touching anyway. Who would've thought the once famous Lily would actually be such a cute little girl."

Cute?

What does cute mean?

It means small boobs!

Thinking of Mira's chest, I got really angry.

I stepped on his foot, "You're the cute one! You pervert. I'm at least six years older than you. Call me a kid again and I'll kill you!"

After saying that, I turned to leave, then remembered something, came back and kicked him again, "And if you take advantage of me again, I'll break your cock off!"

Christopher's voice came from behind me, "I'm 25 this year, how old are you?"

Damn, really six years older.

Does this mean I'm into younger guys? My cheeks grew even hotter.

When I came out of the bathroom, I found Christopher hadn't left but was still standing there waiting for me.

I was happy inside, but pretended to be disgusted on the surface, walking past him without a word.

At the dining table, Ryan and Emma were quite curious about me, chattering away with questions.

Ryan said, "Emily, are you my brother's girlfriend?"

My face turned red. I didn't say anything or deny it, basically confirming it.

"Emily, I heard from my brother that you can fly. Can you show me?"

I looked at Ryan's innocent eyes, at his expectant gaze.

I turned to glare at Christopher, mouthing: "Damn, what have you been telling them?"

Christopher whistled, pretending not to see me.

"Emily, I heard from my brother that you can summon ice and snow. Can you show me?" Emma looked at me with the same hopeful eyes.

Those looks made it seem like if I couldn't do it, their faith would crumble on the spot.

The two kids looked about five or six years old, at that innocent age when they believe everything.

After thinking it over, I finally decided to perform some magic tricks for them—card tricks. The key is hand speed, and coincidentally, I'm very good at that.

I used to practice it for a while when I was bored.

After the card magic performance, everyone was stunned. I felt pretty pleased with myself.

The next second, Christopher spoke up, "Alright, let's eat first. When there's time, Emily will fly for you."

I had just breathed a sigh of relief when I heard him say that. I couldn't help but pinch the flesh at his waist and twist it hard!

Christopher was in so much pain tears came out, but he still pretended nothing had happened.

Throughout the meal, we got to know each other better.

Maybe it was female intuition, but Mira and I didn't get along. We barely talked, didn't even make much eye contact.

After dinner, I went back to the company. Aria, Ryan, and Emma went to rest in the dormitory behind the company, while the rest of us went to the conference room.

I wanted to finalize our future development plan before going to bed—our first official meeting for this "unreliable organization."

"Everyone quiet down, let me say a few words. We're short-staffed right now, so I'll divide up the work."

"So, Emily, tell us about the company structure and future plans."

After saying that, Christopher looked at me expectantly.

Great, so your idea of work planning is to have one person do all the planning?

Over the years, I've accumulated a lot of company management experience, but that doesn't mean people can boss me around endlessly.

I ignored him, but still stood up to explain the plan I'd thought through.

"This afternoon during the partnership negotiation, I don't know if Benjamin took the wrong steel materials, but because the quality wasn't up to standard, we ended up missing this opportunity."

"I'm not saying this is the main point. The point is product quality control—ensuring quality, after-sales service, and updates. We need to be able to handle orders when we get them, not have me out there negotiating deals only to find we can't guarantee quality."

"This is very important. Joshua, I think you're quite suitable for this. What do you think?"

Joshua nodded readily, "Of course no problem. I'll follow Emily's arrangements. But I need to go out for a couple days—there's news about that matter, you know."

I naturally knew he was talking about finding leads on the targeted therapy research records and samples. This was very important.

After all, it concerns the future of all humanity. Of course I understand which matter is more important.

"Okay, then let Christopher fill in temporarily."

I gave him a look, "You have no objections, right?"

"Of course not..."

Before he could finish, Mira immediately looked displeased: "Wait, who's actually in charge here? I really can't understand. Even if you and Christopher are close friends, you shouldn't favor him like this."

The age reference?

Anger instantly surged in my heart. Compared to Christopher, I am indeed a bit older, but only thirty-one. Having someone deliberately emphasize the age gap was really embarrassing.

What's more, Mira was Christopher's childhood friend.

I couldn't help but suspect her real motive for deliberately targeting me.

I immediately stood up, my expression cold: "Were you just deliberately emphasizing my age?"

Mira shot back without backing down: "I'm talking about you. Getting close to younger people on purpose—if word gets out, it'll only invite criticism."

I was instantly furious, about to argue back.

Christopher quickly stood up to ease the tension: "Okay, everyone calm down."

"Mira, stop talking, sit down."

Mira glared at me unwillingly and sat back down, clearly upset.

Christopher walked to my side, gently pulling my arm: "Emily, don't be angry. Mira's young and doesn't know how to watch her words. Don't hold it against her..."

Young? So that makes it okay to put me down?

"So you also think I'm too old, is that it?"

Christopher was at a loss for words. Before he could explain, Mira immediately took the opportunity to mock: "At least she's aware of the gap between you two."

Christopher looked helpless: "Mira, that's enough."

I held back the urge to hit her, but Christopher held me tightly.

"It's true though. I am younger and have more advantages. Besides..." Mira deliberately struck an exaggerated pose, acting provocatively, catching Joshua's full attention.

I grew more annoyed and could only look at Christopher, feeling wronged, hoping he would take a fair stand and defend me.

When I came to my senses, even I was stunned. How could I show such a weak and emotional side?

And Christopher kept his attitude vague, refusing to take a clear position.

Deliberately indulging her, letting me be insulted, is that it? Fine, we'll see about this.

"In that case, I'll leave all company matters for you to handle. I'd like to see just how well you can do."
