Chapter 210 A Future of Our Own
Chapter 210 A Future of Our Own
The Collector King’s words echoed through the chamber. “I know exactly how to separate the two of you.”
I stepped closer to Harper. “You’ll have to get through me first.” The Collector King smiled. “That is exactly what I intend to do.” He raised his hand. The soldiers attacked. Everything happened at once.
Adrian released a blast of crimson energy. Mara created a silver barrier. Aria and Amara joined them. Kael fired toward the ceiling, bringing down a shower of golden energy. The chamber erupted into chaos. I grabbed Harper’s hand. “Stay with me.”
“I will.” We moved through the soldiers together. One attacked Harper from behind. I pushed him away. Another came toward me. Harper struck him with a wave of golden energy. We looked at each other. She smiled. “Still a good team.” “Always.”
Then the Collector King appeared in front of us. He moved too quickly to follow. His hand struck my chest. Pain exploded through me. I flew backward. “Liam!” I hit the floor.
Harper rushed toward me, but the Collector King grabbed her wrist. “Let her go!” He smiled. “Now you understand.” Harper struggled. “Don’t touch me!”
Golden energy exploded from her body. The Collector King was forced backward. I got up. “Harper!” “I’m okay.” She ran toward me. But the Collector King laughed. “You’re both predictable.”
The room suddenly disappeared. I found myself standing in darkness. Harper was gone. “Harper!” No answer. Then I heard her voice. “Liam!” I ran toward it. She appeared in the distance. I reached for her. But every time I moved closer, she moved farther away. “Don’t follow me!” “I’m not leaving you!”
The Collector King’s voice echoed around us. “You cannot save her.” I clenched my fists. “Show yourself.” He appeared. “You’ve fought monsters, armies, and even the Void.” He smiled. “But you’ve never fought your greatest weakness.” “What?” “Fear.”
The darkness changed. I saw Harper dying. I saw Coach Hayes crying. I saw my teammates disappearing. I saw myself standing alone. The images became more painful. But I closed my eyes. “This isn’t real.”
The Collector King laughed. “Doesn’t matter.” I opened my eyes. “You’re right.” I looked directly at him. “It doesn’t matter.” The illusions disappeared.
The Collector King frowned. I smiled. “Because I know what you’re afraid of.” His expression changed. “You’re afraid we don’t need you.” The darkness cracked.
Harper appeared beside me. She grabbed my hand. “You found me.” “I knew you would.” The Collector King stepped backward. “No.”
Harper raised her hand. The golden light around her became brighter than ever. “You wanted the Bridge.” She looked at me. “But you forgot something.” I nodded. “The Bridge isn’t Harper.” “It’s us.” Our energies connected.
The Five Frequencies joined them. The darkness shattered. We returned to the chamber. The Collector King was on his knees. The Keeper stared at us. “The Bridge has evolved.”
Harper looked at him. “What does that mean?” “It means you no longer need an anchor.” Kael’s eyes widened. “The connection has become shared.” I looked at Harper. “We can control the Gate together.” She smiled. “Then let’s end this.”
We moved toward the First Gate. The Collector King struggled to stand. “You cannot destroy what belongs to us!” Harper turned. “It doesn’t belong to anyone.” She raised her hand. “It belongs to those who choose it.”
The Gate opened. Golden energy poured through the chamber. The Collector King screamed as the network rejected him. His soldiers disappeared one after another. Finally, he was pulled into the darkness. “No!” His voice faded.
The Gate remained open. Harper looked at me. “Ready?” I took her hand. “Always.” Together, we connected the Five Frequencies. The Gate began shrinking. One world disappeared. Then another. The network separated. No explosions. No destruction. Just silence.
The connection between worlds slowly closed. The First World remained. Earth remained. And the Gate disappeared. The Keeper looked at Harper. “You have done what no Bridge has ever done.” Harper smiled. “Can I go home now?” He laughed softly. “Yes.”
When we returned to Earth, the sky was clear. No ships. No portals. No darkness. Just sunlight. Coach Hayes was waiting outside the arena.
The moment he saw Harper, he ran toward her. He hugged his daughter tightly. “You came back.” Harper smiled through her tears. “I told you I would.” He looked at me. “And you?” I smiled. “I’m still here.”
He shook his head. “I owe you more than I can say.” I looked at Harper. “She did most of the work.” Coach Hayes laughed. “That’s my daughter.”
Later that evening, the Hawks gathered at the arena. There were no speeches about saving worlds. No plans for another battle. Just laughter. Music. Food. And people who were grateful to still be together.
Harper and I slipped away from the celebration. We stood at center ice. She looked around. “This feels strange.” “What?” “After everything we’ve been through…” She smiled. “…this is what I wanted.” “A hockey rink?” “A normal life.”
I took her hand. “You deserve it.” She looked at me. “So do you.” I pulled her closer. “Harper.” “Yes?” “I don’t know what tomorrow will bring.” “Neither do I.” “But whatever it is…” I smiled. “…I want to face it with you.”
She rested her forehead against mine. “Always.” I kissed her. For once, there was no explosion afterward. No enemy. No mysterious message. Nothing waiting in the darkness. Just us. Harper Hayes and Liam Carter. Two people who had survived the impossible. And finally, a future that belonged to them. We walked out of the arena together.
Behind us, the lights over the ice slowly went dark. The war was over. The Gate was closed. The Bridge was free.
And for the first time in my life, I wasn’t waiting for the next disaster. I was ready for tomorrow. Whatever tomorrow brought.
