Chapter 57

Chapter 57
"No, they won't attempt that anymore; they owe us now. They are creatures of words. I mean, they owe you as much as all their entire family. They will lead us to Tommy's abductor,” Andrew said.

“Are you sure?”

“The feral was getting out of hand. There would be no compassion this time. We have to fight them according to their behaviour and such. But I need to rescue Tommy alone, Diana.”

“Hell no!”

“Without worrying about you, I have better chances of rescuing him on time."

"Are you out of your mind? There is no way I'm letting you go out there alone, Andrew. The reason I'm here is to help you and to watch after you! You bloody know that!” She tried to shrug, tried to look confident, and tried to do anything other than stand like a statue. But her feet were stuck to the ground. She noticed the tiny furrow between his brows and the expression he made when he wasn’t pleased.

And then she thought about how ridiculous it was that she knew his moods and expressions so well. It was foolhardy to think about how much she knew about Andrew.

He smiled the smile that could melt someone's chilled heart. "I swear I'm going to kiss you right here, right now, if you won't stop teasing me. I warned you, Andrew!"

"Ow! My baby Vam is mad," he teased. She hissed at him, then abruptly. Andrew caught himself looking into her deep eyes, and she moved even closer to him again. Suddenly, without any warning, she kissed him. Diana's lips felt warm, soft, and delicious. Andrew looked at her, and maybe it was because of all the stress he had been under; maybe it was how perfect this place was; maybe it was just how she made him feel. He kissed her back, putting his arms around her waist as he did.

They stood there kissing for what appeared to be forever, their lips shifting together. She opened her mouth and let him in, her hands holding his arms, feeling his power while looking into his eyes. This one was diverse, she thought; however, his thoughts were like wide water, peace, and smoothness; he was someone who might just comprehend, or perhaps it might not matter. Diana felt the slightest twinkle of confidence.

The passion of her kisses, the way she held him, her scent, those eyes—there was just something about her. There was something so sacred about a surprise kiss—an extraordinary eternity that just wouldn't wait. It was that explosion of mysterious emotions and passions that were reflected with their kisses, not caring if the cold winter wind soaked through to chill their skin. It was their bond and connection that revealed the stream and strength of their desire—the mutual affection. So wonderful and persuasive. It was an uprising against their natures; the bond was calling them to mate. And they shared the kiss a moment longer than necessary, longing for each other's warmth.

For the time their lips were locked together, the world itself ceased to exist, blurred and wonderful as a rose with its torn. When they trailed back, their minds were like every rainbow that halted to remain, however, enjoying eating and loving the kiss. Diana wished they could stay like this forever.

Andrew pushed his lips in more, and the wave that ran through him was intoxicating, making his head swum as he drew back to take in her beautiful, lush eyes, staring at his longing for more. At that moment of the kiss, their chemistry becomes an ever-bright flame. They knew they needed each other.

"I want you, Andrew."

Alpha Henry and Jenna decided to venture into the devil's forest to look for Diana and her companions.

Raymond, on the other hand, went to deliver a message to the nearby villages, and Edmond volunteered to take care of Eve in his cottage.

The next morning, Alpha Henry and Jenna arrived at the northern part of the valley; the next peak would be the devil's forest. As they walked up to the cliff, its outlines greased over the horizontal backs of highlands and fluttered across the ravine, lumbered with icy pine. Both knew winter was near, and if the war began at this time, it would be horrible for humans.

Below the cliff, they admired its beauty as they kept on walking up. Henry was now in his human form, with a fear of Jenna being seen talking to his wolf. After all, even on this cliff, the human village wasn't that far from there, and both feared what lay ahead. This side of the cliff was rarely passed, and there were rumours that it was guarded by some unknown creature.

However, Jenna's thirst for journey and charm awakened in her heart and flowed out into the tips of her toes, compelling her to want to run straight into the embrace of the proud mountains. The air was chilling, but they went on and on while the skies darkened.

The aural terrain was at once familiar to Jenna. When her kind was being hunted, she ended up running away from any human settlement, and since then, she has become adventurous on her way. Hours later, they continue moving up; they weren't tempted to stop; this was the fastest trail and a shortcut towards the devil's forest, yet she was never tired but weary with the burden of long-closed eyes; she could have easily pulled off to walk while asleep, but it was risky. However, when they reached the peak, both were speechless. Jenna stood atop the uneven, icy surface and lifted her arms in triumph. Grey clouds swirled around her in an icy greeting, and snow coated the mountaintop. Her eyes began to water as a wind whipped the hair across her face. When she looked down at the dizzying drop, nothing met her eye but polished clouds, concealing the glory of their landscape below. Jenna settled down, and a few seconds later, both heard the air-splitting sounds of a creature waking up from hibernation.

"Doggone it! What is the goddess' name?" blurted Henry. He looked around and smelled the air. "What was that?" Henry inquired with a panicked voice. He couldn't believe his eyes. He didn't want to. Not only that, but he never saw something like that in his horrible nightmares. But that was only because his brain always woke him up before such a horrific image covered his mind. And now he was seeing something his eyes wouldn't ever be able to erase. The creature of his nightmare.

How was that even possible?

Jenna whispered as she too looked at the creature, "I've never seen one before, but my witch’s friends once told me that there was a serpent beast that resides here, a creature of the night. A Lamia Aegeus." Jenna answered him back in the same manner of amazement, yet entertained by the look of Alpha's panicked demeanour. “You okay? You look pale, Alpha.”

He hissed at her, "Lamia Aegeus?" asked Henry, his eyes rattling back and forth in a perfunctory scan for the creature. His eyes opened wide as he stared off into the distance. “I've never seen anything like it.”

"Yes, Lamia Aegeus. I'll explain it later, for now we need to go," Jenna replied as she walked slowly. Which was senseless if the only feeling she heard was that of the creature. She allowed her eyes to roam along the small, icy hills and canyons, following snowy creek beds and bare trees where the beast growled. Its eyes sketched the line of the horizon and paused on the broad mountains towering above it.

"Milady, what is Lamia Aegeus? I've never heard that before. Was it a witch's thing?" He looked at her and saw that she too was nervous.

She whispered, "The Lamia Aegeus was a creature, once a child-eating monster that in later centuries was regarded as a type of night-haunting demon," explained Jenna. Remembering her lessons with Lord Ernest, she just wished she listened more intently rather than watching and thinking about how big he was under his breeches. The glory of youth. Indeed. She thought to herself.
