Brothers

Brothers
Cadeon
I open my eyes and find that I'm not in the middle of the forest as I expected.
Immediately, I try to rise without even figuring out where I am exactly. That's when I realize that I'm restrained; I can't move.
What the hell is going on? Where am I?
Wildly, I look around. I'm strapped to a table—or a flat surface. I don't know. Either way, I'm in an elevated position, and my wrists are bound to the sides of the table. So are my feet. My movements are restricted because the binds are too tight.
There's a relentless pounding in my head. I remember being hit over the head with something by an unknown assailant, but how did I get transported all the way here?
How? How is it possible that I don't remember it at all? How long have I been out for?
Where's Lili? What happened?
After a few minutes, I hear a door opening, and judging by the sound it makes, it's a plain wooden door. I try to tuck my chin to have a look around, and I see a familiar face approaching me.
My father.
The way he's looking at me makes me realize that something sinister is going on. Hatred is written all over his face—he's never looked at me this way before. I meet his gaze steadily. Two men are right behind him. For a moment, I can't think. I can barely breathe. He stops several feet away from me and exhales through his nose sharply.
"Cadeon," he finally says. I didn't think I'd hear the sound of his voice anytime soon. "I didn't think we'd ever get to this point. I taught you to be a man, and I did right by you, but all you've ever been is a disappointment."
Before I know it, he slams his fist against my jaw, and pain explodes from the spot he just hit. I see black, and I have to blink to clear my vision.
"You disgust me," he spits. "Your little friends are all dying in that forest. Did you really think you'd stand a chance against us? That you and those filthy Omegas would be able to overthrow us? I would admire you for the effort if you'd at least joined other Alpha-borns. But no—you're determined to be a loser, aren't you?"
I don't say a word. I don't see what I could possibly say to him at a time like this.
"Well, that ends today. I promised a great many people that I'd make you pay for what you did to us. Blood is the only form of payment they want. I'll give it to them, do you want to know why? Because they stood by me while you allowed your Omega friends to make fools out of all of us! That's why. Roll him out!"
The table starts to move, and I hear the sound of wheels against the floor. My father walks alongside us. His eyes are straight ahead. I look around and see that I'm being rolled down a long, narrow hallway. The walls look newly built and smell of fresh cement. They haven't even been painted yet. The ceiling is pristine, and as we move closer to a more illuminated area, I hear voices murmuring before they fall silent.
We're now in a larger place, and the lights above are bright. I try to look again by tucking my chin, and I see that we're in a nondescript, clinical room, and quite a large crowd of people are seated in rows of chairs facing me.
Their eyes are on me.
"Thank you all for being here," I hear my father say beside me. Another table is rolled right next to mine. It's smaller, and my heart skips a beat when I see all the weapons on top of it. Knives, guns, and all sorts of strange devices that I could only associate with torture.
They intend to use those on me?
"As promised, I have brought you what you wanted. You know what happens to an Alpha who deserts his people and breaks the rules—well, now you can take out your anger on the person responsible for so much devastation. "
I try to fight against my restraints again, my thoughts on Lili, and the pain I felt through the bond. Right now, I don't feel a thing, and I'm panicking. Where is she? Has she been captured? What the hell is going on? How's the fighting?
Have we lost?
"You will all have your chance to hurt him—technically, this is meant to be a stoning, but I thought we could make it cleaner and more personal. You will choose an instrument of your choice, and you'll do whatever you wish to him. Remember, the man lying on this table is no man at all." He looks at me, and I see disgust written all over his face. "He's an animal. Don't have mercy on him, and don't turn back. Do what you must. That's the only way you'll find closure."
People applaud. I almost laugh at how ludicrous this whole thing is. I can't free myself, and my own father is giving permission for all these people to kill me slowly. Fuck, I'm not surprised.
But I don't stop squirming and trying to free myself.
I don't want to fucking die, not without finding out where Lili is.
"As I said," my father continues, "you will all have your turn, but the first person to go is someone who was deeply hurt by this person. I hope you understand—this isn't a simple matter. At some point, they shared blood, and this person trusted this animal here with all his heart before getting hurt, lied to, and used by him. Come, Timmon."
My eyes bulge and I stop moving. I once more tuck my chin to have a look at what's happening in front of me, and I see Timmon approaching. His face is covered in cuts and bruises, and he's looking at me with rage in his eyes. He starts to cry, and my father pats his shoulder a little roughly. "There, there. There's no need for theatrics, Timmon. You will get your revenge. Ladies and gentlemen, my son, Timmon, the future Alpha of this pack!"
Once more, I hear applauses, and Timmon approaches the table slowly, his eyes still on mine. My head is spinning—what the fuck is going on? When did this happen? Did I wake up in a different fucking dimension?
Since when does Timmon hate me? I never betrayed him.
"Go ahead, son," our father says behind us. "Pick your weapon of choice."
Timmon reaches for the gun, and my father chuckles. "Make sure to leave some of him for the rest of us, son. Don't kill him now. You know how much this means for us."
"Yes, Father," Timmon replies, his eyes returning to my face. He points the gun at my foot, and I hold my breath, still wondering what the fuck is going on. However, in a flash, he winks at me and then turns around and shoots our father right in the head.
The crowd gasps, and chaos ensues.
Shots are fired from all over the place. I can't even move—all I can do is hope that no bullet will touch me.
I don't know what happened here today, but I do know that I didn't expect it to happen, and my brother didn't betray me. I knew he wouldn't.
When the shots stop, he comes to my side again. "Brother."
"Brother," I echo, so happy to see him that it hurts. "What the hell happened?"
The only people standing seem to be with him. Timmon says, "They're friends I made here. Don't worry, you're safe. I'm not going to hurt you."
"I figured that. What happened to your face?"
"I did it myself to trick Dad. He thought I was kidnapped by you to be used as a bargaining chip. Look, there's no time to explain. We'll have to get out of here and find a way to head back to the field, alright? We're losing the war, Cadeon. We can't let this happen."
I nod. Once I'm free, I grab a few weapons and we race out of this building that gives me the creeps. My thoughts are solely on Lili. Where is she now? What happened?
By the goddess, I hope she's safe and that I'm not too late.
I won't recover if she isn't.
