Chapter 149 An Abrupt Morning After a Long Night of Lovemaking
Chapter 149 An Abrupt Morning After a Long Night of Lovemaking
ERINA -
Slowly, the heat began to ease, and the sharp edges dulled to a deep ache.
When she opened her eyes, everything seemed... more.
The dust in the room was clearer, and she could smell the logs burning on the fire and somehow, she suddenly knew that they were long dead branches from a forgotten tree.
She looked at Kai, and even the fine fur along his skin were individual hairs that she could see with ease.
"What was that? What happened?" Even her voice sounded different.
He didn't answer. Instead, he lifted and pulled her hand up with him. "I'll show you."
The moment he pulled her arm up, she noticed that her skin was no longer the creamy white she was used to. It was blue, like Kai's.
She looked down at her naked body and all of her was blue, except for the black stripes that curved around her hips and thighs.
Kai walked her to a tall mirror that sat in the corner of the room beside the bed.
As she moved, she felt taller too, like she was wearing foot high heels.
The moment she saw herself in the mirror, she gasped and brought her hand to her mouth.
Stripes ghosted along her arms and legs. They were faint charcoal and with silver bands that shimmered when she turned.
Her ears had moved high up on her head and had lengthened into points with tufted tips.
She jumped when movement curled around her legs. Shocked, she looked down and saw a tail.
It was odd to feel at first, but she smiled when it listened to her commands.
It was ringed in the same colors as Kai's, only it was far fluffier than his.
Her once golden hair was no longer blonde. Instead, it was a soft lavender that looked almost white in certain lights.
Her eyes caught the firelight and flashed violet, glowing with iridescent shimmers.
She lifted a hand and touched the tip of one ear. She laughed when it twitched on its own without her having to tell it to.
"I-I don't understand. Uhm..." She turned to Kai in the mirror. "What does this mean?" She asked him.
"It means you're the Cheshire Queen." His grin was slow and full of wonder as he reached up and brushed his thumb along the faint stripe that curved over her cheekbone. “You’re beautiful,” he whispered.
She turned in his arms and looked up at him.
The ache in her body was fading fast now, replaced by a strange, humming energy that felt like it belonged to her.
“Everything feels… different,” she said.
"I bet. How do you feel?" he asked with a smile.
“Stronger.”
“You are stronger.” He leaned down and kissed her softly. “My Queen.”
She smiled against his mouth and felt her new tail curl around his leg as if on instinct.
She pulled back and looked once more at her new form.
She was beautiful.
The thought made her smile, and she noticed that her grin spread across her face just like Kai's did, and it gave her butterflies. It was wide and beautiful and full of sharp teeth.
Outside the windows the laughter of the Cheshires drifted up from the courtyard, faint and joyful, and she could hear it like she was standing right outside alongside them.
"It's gonna take a while to get used to this. I can literally hear them walking on the bricks."
He smiled and turned her to face him once more. "And I'll be right here with you as you learn. You'll never be alone and left with unanswered questions. Not if I can help it."
He turned them towards the window and said in a breathy whisper of awe, "Shireland is breathing again." He squeezed her closer to him. "And it has you to thank for it."
Erina rested her head on Kai’s chest and listened to the steady rhythm beneath her ear. She closed her eyes and let herself sink into the warmth of him.
That was until he lifted his dexterous fingers and tweaked the tip of her nipple in a playful way. Yet, she felt it so much more strongly than she had earlier.
It sent spikes of pleasure between her legs, and that was when she smelled not only her own arousal but Kai's as well.
She turned in his arms, "You really can smell when I want you!"
She thought back to all the times when she'd fantasized him taking her, or kissing her, and how much she'd been turned on, and she couldn't stop the bluish-purple blush that traveled up her neck and into her cheeks.
Kai threw his head back in laughter that roared into the ceiling. His whole body shook against her, and she couldn't help but join in.
They spent the rest of the night in each other's arms. Making love over and over until sleep finally took them.
The next day came far faster than Erina had expected it to, even though from the looks of the sun in the sky, they'd slept the morning away.
Erina blinked against the brightness, her body still heavy with the deep, dreamless sleep that always followed exhaustion.
Kai lay beside her, one arm draped across her waist, his breathing slow and even.
For just a moment she simply watched the rise and fall of his chest until a sudden wave of nausea rolled through her.
She sat up too quickly, and the room tilted, causing her stomach to lurch as a cold sweat broke out across her forehead and saliva filled her mouth.
She pressed a hand to her lips and scrambled out of bed.
Frantically, she searched for something to throw up in but found only a small trashcan by a writing desk.
She voided her stomach in heaves.
Kai’s voice came from behind, soft but urgent. “Erina? What’s wrong?”
“I don’t know,” she managed. “Maybe… maybe it’s the change?”
Before he could respond, a sharp hiss cut through the quiet.
In the far corner of the chamber was Mystifurr.
Across from him was the little Walker, and he'd puffed up to twice his size. His cap flared wide, and his tiny mouth was open in a fierce display of teeth.
Forgetting her nausea, Erina rushed forward without thinking. “Mystifurr!” She scooped the cat into her arms.
She didn't know how he was here, but she didn't care. He felt so good in her arms. "How are you here?"
Kai rubbed a hand over his face, looking sheepish. “I picked him up and tossed him in right after you went through the mirror. I thought you’d seen me do it.”
She laughed once, shaky with relief, and set Mystifurr down before she picked up the Walker instead.
She stroked its cap gently before another wave of nausea hit her. She breathed through it and murmured, "I wish I knew what was making me so sick."
The Walker stilled before an image bloomed in her mind. She saw herself with a large belly, swollen with new life. Kai stood behind her, grinning.
Then the vision faded, and Erina's breath caught.
“I’m pregnant?” she whispered.
