Chapter 47 Ecstatic

Chapter 47 Ecstatic

Emma sneered inwardly, but deliberately put on a worried expression, "Well, Mr. Carter is just too cold-hearted. Sophie has done so much for him..."

As soon as she hung up, the sadness on Emma's face vanished instantly.

She jumped up from the sofa and spun around the room excitedly. Sophie had a miscarriage! Now Sophie had completely lost her leverage!

She immediately grabbed her phone and called Aiden. Only after confirming that Sebastian had safely returned to the villa and showed no signs of anything unusual from last night's drinking did she contentedly change into a plain outfit, pick up the nutritional supplements she had bought earlier, and head out.

She was going to "comfort" Sophie, and more importantly, to see with her own eyes just how pathetic that woman who once drove her mad with jealousy had become.

Meanwhile, Sebastian was nursing a brutal hangover.

He sat on the villa's sofa, staring at the gloomy sky outside, replaying Sophie's words "irresponsible bastard" over and over in his mind.

He irritably rubbed his temples and picked up his phone, instinctively calling Aiden, "Where's Emma now?"

Aiden answered respectfully, "Ms. Roberts just called Mireille and heard about Sophie's situation. She's heading to Sophie's apartment now."

Sebastian's frown deepened. Emma going to Sophie's apartment? Since when had these two become so "close"?

"Mr. Carter, are you alright?" Aiden asked with concern.

"I'm fine." Sebastian hung up, his gaze falling on the housekeeper dusting a vase nearby.

This housekeeper was an old servant of the Carter family, having been there since Sebastian was a child, absolutely loyal to him. Sebastian hesitated, then asked, "Beatrix, has Emma... been to the villa recently?"

Beatrix paused in her dusting, her tone somewhat hesitant, "Ms. Roberts hasn't come to the villa, but... she often has designer clothes and jewelry delivered to her apartment, saying she needs them for society parties, and that it's to help expand your connections, Mr. Carter."

Sebastian's ice-blue eyes instantly darkened. Expand his connections? Using his money to package herself, trying to squeeze into circles that would never truly accept her? Emma really had it all figured out.

He remembered Sophie in the office, eyes red, shouting at him "My private life is none of Mr. Carter's business"; remembered her carrying that cardboard box, walking out of the company without looking back.

That oppressive irritation swept over him again, worse than the hangover.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

Beatrix went to answer it, and soon Stanley appeared in the living room.

He looked somewhat tired, but his eyes remained steady and determined.

"Mr. Carter, sorry to disturb you." Stanley walked straight up to Sebastian, getting right to the point. "I just came from the hospital. There's something I need to tell you."

Sebastian looked up, his ice-blue eyes full of wariness and impatience.

Stanley ignored his attitude and took a deep breath, his tone heavy but clear, "Sophie—she was never pregnant."

The living room fell silent instantly.

Sebastian's body went rigid. He thought he'd misheard, or was still confused from the hangover.

"What did you say?" His voice was hoarse, filled with disbelief.

"I said, Sophie wasn't pregnant." Stanley confirmed again. "She just had irregular periods from long-term overwork and too much stress, hormonal imbalance, and combined with her stomach problems, she had symptoms similar to morning sickness. Last night she was bleeding heavily, so I took her to the hospital. After examination, the doctor confirmed she was never pregnant—it was just her period arriving."

Each word hit Sebastian like a physical blow.

Not pregnant...

Images flashed through his mind: Sophie's nearly bloodless face in the conference room; her stubborn yet desperate eyes when he questioned her; her thin figure in the sunlight, carrying that cardboard box.

What had he done?

He had pushed her to this point over a ridiculous misunderstanding.

Sebastian's face instantly darkened, veins bulging at his temples, his clenched fists trembling slightly from the force. He wanted to argue, to explain, but found his throat blocked, unable to make a sound.

Stanley saw his reaction and knew he was deeply shaken. His tone softened slightly, "Mr. Carter, you know what Sophie is like. She's proud and stubborn, carries all her grievances alone, never bothers to explain. She's so strong-willed, yet because of your comment about her 'colorful private life,' she was pushed to the point of giving up her job."

"She's a good person. She doesn't deserve this." Stanley looked directly at Sebastian, his tone carrying unavoidable accusation. "I know you were angry, but you can't just dismiss someone's efforts and dignity because of your own emotions."

Sebastian's lips moved, wanting to say something, but ultimately nothing came out.

He was Sebastian Carter, always commanding, never bowing his head, never willing to admit he was wrong.

Stanley saw this and knew it was his pride at work, so he didn't push further. He took a note from his pocket and placed it on the coffee table, his voice calm, "This is Sophie's address. She really needs someone by her side right now. If you care about her, go talk to her yourself."

With that, Stanley turned and left without hesitation.

The living room fell silent again.

Sebastian's gaze fell on the note on the coffee table, with a familiar address written on it.

He recognized this address.

It was Sophie's apartment.

He stared at the note, Stanley's words replaying in his mind, along with Sophie's pale but stubborn face.

He was wrong. Terribly wrong.
