Chapter 66 Loneliness

Chapter 66 Loneliness

Emma Johnson's POV

At this hour, everyone at Campbell Mansion had long since gone to bed.

The hallway was utterly silent, not a single sound disturbing the stillness.

I arrived at the guest room door and gently turned the handle.

With a soft creak, the door swung open.

Inside, the room was dim, illuminated only by the faint glow of a bedside lamp.

The warm, amber light radiated an unmistakable air of seduction, and if I paid attention, there was also the cloying scent of heavy women's perfume.

I narrowed my eyes, following the scent to its source.

Anna stood with her back to the door by the window, wearing nothing but a nearly transparent wine-red silk robe that clung to her perfect figure.

The belt hung loosely at her waist, and beneath the robe, her smooth, slender legs were fully exposed.

A flawless body, a seductive setting—everything about the scene screamed invitation.

I glanced at Harry, lying motionless on the bed, fast asleep.

Normal wine wouldn't knock someone out this hard, and it certainly wouldn't make Anna this bold—unless she'd slipped something extra into his drink.

"Darling, I knew you wouldn't disappoint me. Tonight is going to be so long… and I hate being lonely without you by my side."

Anna slowly turned around, and the seductive expression on her face instantly cracked.

"What—it's you!" A sharp, strangled gasp escaped her throat as she stumbled backward, crashing into the windowsill. Her robe slipped down her skin, exposing a generous expanse of her shoulders, neck, and chest.

"Anna, I have to say—you've got a great body," I said, crossing my arms as I watched her scramble to pull the robe back into place.

She stared at me in humiliated shock. "How—how is it you? Emma!?"

I took two calm steps forward, my expression impassive. "That's my line, Anna. It's late. What exactly are you doing, disturbing my husband?"

Anna's face turned an ugly shade of pale, but she quickly composed herself despite being caught in the most compromising position imaginable.

"Ms. Johnson, I think you've misunderstood. I only asked him to come help me look after my husband. That's all."

"Look after him?" I glanced pointedly at her carefully applied makeup and her provocative robe. "And you needed to dress like this for that?"

Anna's composure faltered, her eyes darting nervously.

"Louis thought it would be rude to come alone, so he sent me instead—to see if some shameless woman was trying to seduce him. You know, like the one who deliberately rubbed her foot against his leg under the dinner table."

My tone was blunt, and I looked at her as though she were nothing more than a lifeless object.

Anna let out a mocking laugh. "Emma, do you have any idea what it's like to be married to a man of his caliber? Louis is young, handsome, wealthy, and powerful. Do you know how many women throw themselves at him, desperate to get into his bed? You think I'd be the first?"

She deliberately thrust her chest forward as she took a step closer, flaunting the assets of a mature woman. "Successful men crave excitement. Even if you're his lawfully wedded wife, so what? Sometimes, being smart is the only way to keep your position secure."

"Oh, really?" I suddenly laughed, finding the woman before me pitifully deluded.

"Anna, you don't know us. Don't judge Louis by the standards of those shallow men you're used to. He would give his life for me. That alone proves you've completely underestimated what we have."

My voice was firm and unwavering. I had this confidence because in my past life, I'd seen it with my own eyes.

"Is that so?" Anna's lips curled into a smirk. "Emma, let me remind you—men's interest has an expiration date. And right now, if I claimed you attacked me, how many people in the Campbell family do you think would take your side?"

She leaned in slightly, her tone dripping with mockery. "Be smart. Pretend tonight never happened, and Harry and I will leave tomorrow."

"And here I thought you'd have something more impressive up your sleeve," I said with a sigh, feeling the confrontation lose its edge.

"Instead of worrying about whether I'll say anything, you should be worried about yourself. You drugged your own husband—what wouldn't you be capable of? You're only with him for his money, aren't you?"

I paused, letting my words sink in.

"And those shell companies you've set up overseas? The fake charity fronts you use to embezzle funds? You might want to hide those a little better."

Anna's pupils dilated sharply, her face draining of all color. "How did you—"

"How did I know?" I stepped closer, watching her body tremble. "That investment Harry mentioned at dinner—you're scamming him with that too, aren't you? Did you really think your little scheme was foolproof?"

In my past life, when Harry had come to Louis in despair, he'd laid out every detail with painful clarity.

So I remembered it all. Every single piece.

Seeing Anna's guilty expression confirmed everything.

She looked utterly powerless, her legs giving way beneath her as she swayed.

Instinctively, I reached out to steady her, but my fingertips brushed against the pulse point on her wrist.

Beneath her cold skin, her pulse raced—fast and erratic.

But the rhythm was smooth, slightly weak. There was none of the rounded, strong thrumming that came with pregnancy.

She wasn't pregnant at all.

In a flash, a memory fragment from my past life shot through my mind.

Back then, Anna had been pregnant, but the timing of that child's arrival had been suspiciously convenient. There had been rumors at the time that it was all a ploy to keep Harry under her thumb…

I hadn't believed it then. But now—

Anna jerked her hand away as if I were a venomous snake, her eyes flashing with venom.

"Go to hell!" she hissed.

Then, in one fluid motion, she stumbled backward and slammed herself hard against the nearby cabinet.

"Ah—my stomach! It hurts!" she screamed, curling into herself as she clutched her abdomen, her face twisted in agony.

"You're quite the actress," I said, having witnessed the entire performance. "It's a shame you never went into film."

But Anna didn't stop. Her shrill screams woke Harry from his drugged stupor.

She grabbed his arm. "Harry, our baby—"

Harry's eyes flew open, taking in the chaotic scene. He leapt out of bed. "Anna—"

At the same time, hurried footsteps and frantic voices echoed from the hallway.

The door burst open. First came the Campbell family butler and several servants, followed by Sarah, and finally Elizabeth and Louis.

Anna clutched Harry's hand, tears streaming down her face. "Harry, Emma tried to kill our baby!"

"That's absurd! Emma would never do something like that!" Louis was the first to step forward, pulling me protectively behind him. "This is all a misunderstanding. We should call a doctor first."

"Louis, Ms. Johnson may be your wife, but Anna is mine," Harry said, lifting his head to glare at me with bloodshot eyes. "After something like this happens, doesn't she owe us an explanation? Tell me—what the hell did you do to my wife?!"
