Chapter 433 Have a Child to Share the Burden
"Why are you guys here so early?" Evelyn greeted them with a smile, reaching out to hug Samuel, who naturally wrapped his arm around her waist, fitting perfectly together.
Seeing the couple so sweet, Laura couldn't help but blush, glancing at her own Kyle, who probably wouldn't understand such romance.
"Tell me, how many days has it been since you came home? If I hadn't come today, were you planning on staying here forever?" Samuel said, a bit regretful for setting up a studio for Evelyn, as she seemed to be completely absorbed in it, forgetting everything else.
"No, today we're almost done. The next step is to finalize the products, and we're nearly at the finishing stage," Evelyn said with a bright smile. "I haven't had a good night's sleep in days, so of course, I'm going home to sleep well."
Then she turned to Laura, "You too, go home and get some rest."
"I'm not tired. I can stay here and wait for the data to be more detailed," Laura quickly said.
Kyle glanced at her, "No, you're tired."
Laura protested, "I'm not tired!"
"You're tired, it's obvious." Kyle, always serious, said it so earnestly that it made it seem even more true.
Instinctively touching her face, Laura asked, "Is it that obvious?"
Evelyn couldn't help but laugh, realizing once again that Kyle had tricked her.
Laura threw a pillow at him, which he caught effortlessly.
"Alright, Kyle's right. These past few days have been exhausting. I'm dead tired, so how could you not be? Let's all go home and rest. There's still work to do later, and we won't run out of time. Besides," Evelyn paused, smiling, "I have a feeling that once this project is done, we'll have even more orders coming in."
"You're that confident?" Samuel tapped Evelyn's nose, loving her confident look.
"Of course!"
If it were before, Evelyn might not have been so confident. She had always worked behind closed doors, unsure of her own abilities and afraid to face failure. But in the past two years, she had stepped out, constantly facing challenges, accepting failures and setbacks, and realized that the world outside, though vast, wasn't as scary as she had imagined.
Evelyn gradually became more confident and increasingly loved challenges. Each new achievement and recognition became her motivation to keep moving forward.
The group left the studio. Kyle planned to drop Samuel off first, then Laura. But Samuel waved them off, not wanting to be a third wheel, so Kyle drove off with a pouting Laura.
Samuel drove himself, with Evelyn in the passenger seat. Before long, she leaned her head against the window and fell asleep.
She had been really tired lately, not just from the new job but also from dealing with all the rumors and slander from all sides.
Evelyn slept with a slight frown, dark circles under her eyes, making Samuel feel a pang of heartache.
He slowed down the car and turned down the air conditioning, driving home in silence.
Evelyn was so tired that she didn't wake up even when they arrived home. Samuel parked the car and waited.
He wasn't in a hurry. Just watching her sleep in the quiet car, it felt like a moment of perfect peace, the kind of simple, real happiness he longed for.
And it was all because of her.
Evelyn stirred in her sleep, suddenly waking up. Seeing the dark sky outside and the familiar surroundings, she remembered where she was.
The driver's seat was empty, and Samuel was nowhere to be seen, making her feel a bit anxious.
Sitting up, she saw him not far away, on the phone, his back to her. Her heart settled down.
He looked so focused, his tall figure standing there; even his side profile was captivating.
She didn't know when it happened, but Samuel had gradually taken over her heart. She thought after what happened with Liam, she wouldn't fall in love again, or if she did, it wouldn't be as deep. But she was wrong.
Not only did she fall in love, but she fell even deeper because he was worth it.
Sensing something, Samuel turned to look at her, his cold gaze softening instantly when he saw her.
Smiling at him, Evelyn got out of the car.
As she walked up to him, he finished his call, exuding a cold aura.
She didn't know who he had been talking to, but it was clear it wasn't a pleasant conversation.
It didn't matter. There had been plenty of unpleasant calls lately. Evelyn linked her arm with Samuel's, "Why didn't you wake me? Did I sleep for a long time?"
"If I hadn't come to the studio to get you, were you planning on not sleeping at all?" Samuel scolded her, unable to hide the concern in his eyes. "Go wash your face. I've already ordered food, it should be here soon. After we eat, you can go back to sleep."
Evelyn nodded obediently.
After washing her face, the food arrived shortly. Samuel had ordered from her favorite restaurant, probably considering she was too tired to go out, so he thoughtfully had it delivered.
They sat across from each other, with several dishes in front of them. She kept eating while saying, "You ordered so much, it's such a waste if we can't finish it!"
"Then eat more, so it won't be wasted."
"You're kidding! This is enough to last me a whole day. I'm not a pig!" Evelyn pouted, looking more like a chipmunk storing food than a pig.
Samuel chuckled, "Maybe there's another way to consider."
"What way?" she asked casually, still eating despite her complaints. The food was just too good, perfectly to her taste.
"For example, we could have a baby to help share the food?"
Evelyn almost spat out her soup, coughing repeatedly.
He actually said that, having a baby just to share the food? What a lame excuse!
Evelyn gave him a look. Ever since the pregnancy scare, he had been fixated on the idea.
"With everything going on right now, are you sure this is the right time for a baby?" she replied calmly.
Putting down his utensils, Samuel wiped his mouth slowly, "There's always something going on. The right time isn't about the circumstances, it's about you."
Such straightforward words, such intense eyes, made Evelyn's cheeks flush, "I..."
Just then, her phone rang.
