Chapter 424 Confess Now
Chapter 424 Confess Now
Compared to Jacob's restless agitation, Ruby was much more composed.
She sat calmly behind her desk, which was piled high with various documents. The company had been through a lot recently, facing crises, and aside from a few vice presidents, she was the highest authority.
Most of the vice presidents were just figureheads, shareholders who participated in profit-sharing but rarely involved themselves in daily management. Previously, Aiden was in charge, occasionally delegating to Alex. Now, with no one else to oversee things, Ruby was the one in control.
As Jacob looked at her, he noticed her makeup was more refined, and her aura seemed completely different. He had a vague feeling that Ruby had changed somehow, but he couldn't quite pinpoint what it was.
It was a feeling he couldn't describe, and it made him uneasy.
"Ruby, you need to explain this to me. What the hell is going on? Why is Virgil still involved?" Jacob demanded angrily.
Ruby glanced up at him briefly, then returned to her paperwork, signing her name and setting the documents aside before speaking slowly, "Dad, are you questioning me right now?"
"I..." Jacob hesitated, her tone catching him off guard.
"Isn't it obvious whose fault this is? I proposed and established the new project department, bringing in professionals to handle it. But you insisted on giving the project to Virgil. He wanted to take it on himself, refusing to listen to anyone's advice, trying to claim all the credit. Now, things have spiraled out of control. So, are you questioning me?" Ruby listed Virgil's faults methodically, her demeanor sharp and unyielding.
"Ruby, you..."
"What about me? Am I not telling the truth? Everyone in the company knows Virgil is incompetent. He doesn't understand anything, yet wants to control the company. Just because he's your son, you're willing to risk the Redwood Group's future in his hands?" Ruby's voice rose as she stood, her presence intimidating.
Jacob was startled and instinctively took a step back. "Ruby, what are you doing? This is an office!"
"You know this is an office?" Ruby laughed lightly, walking around the desk towards him. "Dad, now you tell me this is an office. You've barged into my office repeatedly to find scapegoats for Virgil, even wanting me to take the fall for him. Virgil has stormed into my office countless times, disregarding company rules. Now you tell me this is an office?"
"If that's the case, let's follow office protocol and company procedures. Ms. Redwood, I have work to do. Please leave."
Jacob was stunned by Ruby's cold demeanor.
He stood there for a long time, his hands trembling slightly, feeling a chill throughout his body. The sense of betrayal was overwhelming, especially coming from his daughter.
Just days ago, Ruby had confidently assured him she would find a way to save Virgil. But now, her attitude had changed so quickly, faster than flipping a page!
"Ruby, so everything you told me before was a lie?" Jacob's voice trembled. "You never intended to help Virgil. You watched him fall step by step... No, you set the trap yourself, didn't you?"
Ruby laughed mockingly. "Depends on how you look at it. I did set a trap, but I planned to build a foundation and a skyscraper. Virgil insisted on taking over, but instead of building, he kept digging deeper until he fell into the pit. What could I do?"
So it wasn't her fault; Virgil chose to jump into the trap himself. She simply didn't stop him.
"Fine, very fine!" Jacob said, defeated, sinking into the sofa. "I never saw it coming. My precious daughter, with such cunning, even deceived me!"
"Dad, there's a lot you haven't seen!" Ruby laughed coldly. "I've done so much for the company over the years, but you never recognized my talent and abilities. All you saw was that idiot son. Just because he's a man, he gets everything I've worked half my life for without lifting a finger. Why? You wanted me to support him, but does he deserve it?"
"Now you see, with his brain, he can't handle this. How could he ever manage the Redwood Group?"
"So this is why you set the trap for him? From the moment I brought him into the Redwood Group, you started planning?"
Only now, hearing Ruby's heartfelt words, did Jacob truly understand.
After a pause, he asked wearily, "Did your mother know about this?"
"She wasn't involved, but she knew," Ruby admitted directly. "Dad, you can't seriously believe two women can coexist peacefully, can you? My mom has worked for the Redwood family her whole life. Why should she accept an outsider's child into her home? Why should she graciously accept your son with another woman?"
"But I haven't treated you and your mother poorly over the years. You've had everything..."
Ruby interrupted him, "That's your duty! Dad, imagine if the roles were reversed, and Mom brought another man's son into the family. Would you accept it? Would you be happy to let him join the family and inherit the Redwood family business?"
"She wouldn't have the right!" Jacob said angrily.
Even the thought made him furious.
Ruby's smile was a subtle mockery, but Jacob didn't notice.
"So, Dad, I advise you to let this go. It's already settled. Give up!" She sat back down, leisurely sipping her tea.
She chose to confess now because everything was already decided, with no chance of reversal.
That outsider would never set foot in the Redwood Group again.
