Chapter 22
"Useless!"
At the Johnson Villa, Brian grabbed the cup from the coffee table and smashed it hard on the floor.
He never expected that Jett and his crew would fail!
Those guys bragged about their unmatched abilities, but when it came to actually doing something, there was no result for ages.
"Brian, could it be that they already succeeded, but just haven't found the right moment to bring the two kids over?" Harper patted his back to calm him down, tentatively suggesting other possibilities.
Brian shook his head, his eyes full of anger. "I was planning to go settle the score with Emily as soon as I got those two little brats, but instead I received a text message saying they failed and telling us to stop going after Emily and her two kids."
Hearing this, Harper's expression changed. Sophia put down the apple she was peeling, her brows furrowed. "Dad, could it be that she's already discovered our plan, which is why those people didn't succeed?"
Brian shook his head. "I feel like things aren't that simple."
Brian recalled seeing Emily at the funeral home, busy all day without even stepping out the front door, showing no signs of worry at all. He didn't believe she had arranged everything in advance and was therefore completely calm.
Of course, this was just his gut feeling.
To make it easier to approach Emily during the chaos, Brian had even paid people to cause trouble for Emily.
Brian had specifically stopped a deceased person's family member and got them to make a scene, but that was also easily resolved.
Everything seemed like there was an invisible hand operating behind the scenes, protecting Emily and the two children from harm.
As for who that person was, Brian had already sent people to investigate secretly.
"Dad, so what do we do now?" Sophia let out a long sigh, rubbing her throbbing temples, unable to think straight for a while.
"Let's wait for now." Brian had run out of other ideas for the moment.
Before finding out who was behind Emily, he didn't want to act rashly again and alert them.
If Emily and the others really became guarded, it would make everything he did in the future much harder.
"Alright." Although Sophia was reluctant, she couldn't come up with any ideas either.
Harper frowned, deep in thought.
With Emily's previous status, she couldn't have gotten to know anyone more capable than Jett and his people.
For an ordinary person, how would she get involved with those desperados?
But the fact that even Jett and his crew, whom Brian had personally contacted, failed to take those two kids clearly meant someone was deliberately blocking them.
But who would go this far for someone with no blood relation?
She just couldn't figure it out.
The three of them huddled together and schemed for a long time, but couldn't make up their minds and had to give up for now.
Night fell, and the small courtyard was completely quiet.
A crisp whistle sounded, and a figure came in from outside the courtyard wall.
"Mr. Brown, we've got some leads on the car accident." Robert bowed slightly, reporting to William what he'd found out during this time.
"The brake pads on the car you were driving that day were severely worn, causing brake failure. You happened to be on a mountain road at the time, with no one able to rescue you." He spoke matter-of-factly, but just from his words alone, one could imagine how dangerous it was.
"Severely worn brake pads? Looks like someone couldn't hold back anymore." William sneered, his voice ice-cold. "What did my grandfather say?"
"He knows you're still alive but didn't say much, hasn't leaked the information."
William understood and didn't ask more about his grandfather's movements, instead turning to ask about the activities of other people in the Brown family.
Raymond Brown had three children in his life. William's father was his eldest son, and the heads of the other two branches were his second son, Henry Brown, and third son, Austin Brown, respectively.
"Which family has been making the most fuss these past few days?"
"Henry's wife has been causing a scene at the Brown Mansion every day, saying the Brown Group can't be without a leader for a day and wanting your grandfather to hand over the CEO position to Henry. The other two families aren't well-intentioned either, pretending to be pitiful in front of your grandfather both openly and secretly." After Robert finished speaking, he looked like he wanted to say more, but hesitated.
"What is it?" William's senses were sharp, and he immediately noticed something was off.
"Mr. Brown, right now in the Brown family, only your grandfather and Aiden know you're still alive. If you don't show up for a long time, I'm afraid both Henry's and Austin's families won't be able to hold back."
His words were already quite tactful.
Not only would the future become hard to control, but even now, some minor players were constantly creating trouble.
William fell silent, quietly weighing the pros and cons.
With his current physical condition, if he returned to the Brown Mansion, those people would definitely keep a close watch, and it was highly likely they'd even use Aiden to threaten him.
If he didn't go back, they'd be concerned about appearances and wouldn't make things too difficult for Aiden.
Moreover, Raymond was still there and wouldn't just watch Aiden get bullied by those people.
Overall, going back was a choice where the disadvantages outweighed the advantages.
"I can still control the situation from behind the scenes right now, no rush to go back."
After making his decision, William didn't hesitate at all and flatly rejected Robert's suggestion.
Although somewhat disappointed, this result was within Robert's expectations.
Therefore, he just nodded and didn't say more.
"What's the deal with that Daniel?" William changed the subject, throwing out the next question.
"The Johnson family has been competing for a new project with the Wilson family recently. Sophia got some twisted ideas, wanting to force Emily and Daniel into a relationship to climb aboard the Wilson family's ship."
As he said this, a flash of contempt passed through Robert's eyes.
If she wanted to compete for a project, using legitimate means was best.
If she had connections privately, that was fine too.
But relying on a woman's body to get ahead was truly the most despicable method.
"But Emily was smart and didn't let them succeed." Robert added this sentence and then closed his mouth.
"I don't want the Wilson family's project to proceed smoothly." William didn't say much, but this one casual remark was enough to reduce the Wilson family's confident project to ashes.
"Yes." Robert nodded slightly, his somewhat lowered head displaying his submissive attitude.
"There's a Happy World Preschool nearby. Go investigate it and see what this preschool is like."
Emily's conversation with Evelyn today happened to be overheard by William as he passed by on his way to the bathroom.
He didn't think much of it at the time, but now that they were talking about this, he didn't mind having Robert investigate.
He quite liked "Oscar" and Nina, so spending a little effort on them was fine.
In fact, if Emily were that woman from years ago, Oscar and Nina were very likely his children.
When it came to his own children, William had excellent patience.
"Alright." Robert agreed right away, already adding this matter to his agenda.
