Chapter 138
"Rush the results."
He ordered, "I want to see the results tomorrow at the latest. Money is not an issue."
Having been in a position of power for so long, William's words naturally carried authority.
The doctor took the samples and quickly nodded without asking any questions.
The hospital didn't actually provide paternity test services -- William should have sent the hair to a specialized testing facility.
But given how hard it was for him even to sit in a wheelchair, let alone go out, he had no choice but to ask the doctor to handle this for him.
"If it's rushed, we should be able to get the results tomorrow."
"Good."
After waiting one more night, he would know whether Oscar and Nina were really his biological children.
But aside from this matter, he still had to deal with things in the organization.
These past few days, Tony had been calling him nonstop, practically blowing up his phone.
William didn't answer every call, but he did take a few, all behind Emily's back.
Tony said the situation in the organization had stabilized, and the moles they needed to root out had already been caught.
But he was very worried about William's condition. The reason he had called so urgently that day was to get William to come back to the organization to recover.
With two gunshot wounds on his body, if he went to a hospital, the doctors would likely report it to the police.
Right now, the Brown family didn't know William was still alive, and he couldn't go to hospitals under the Brown family's control, so recovering within the organization was the wisest choice.
William told him the problems on his end were resolved and that he was currently recovering.
Only then did Tony relax and stop urging William to return.
William's current plan was to return to the Brown Mansion after recovering, to come back openly and compete with Clarence using his true identity.
He wanted to take back everything he had lost, to personally expose Clarence in front of Raymond and leave him with nowhere to stand.
But when William looked at his injuries, he couldn't help but sigh.
These were all just his plans -- who knew when he would fully recover?
And now he had a new matter to deal with -- waiting for the paternity test results.
Last night, William was too excited to sleep well.
Emily had no idea what was on his mind. Seeing William toss and turn, unable to sleep, she thought his wounds were hurting and tried several times to call the doctor, but William stopped her each time.
Before the results came out, he didn't plan to tell Emily that he had taken Nina's hair for a paternity test.
It wouldn't be too late to tell her after the results came out.
Early the next morning, Emily went out for a while.
She hadn't been home these past few days. Although Amelia had brought Oscar and Nina to visit yesterday, Emily still needed to go back to get some clean clothes and cook a proper meal for the kids.
She promised William she would return at noon.
"It's fine, you can come back later."
William said softly, "Nothing major is happening here, and my wounds are already healing. Nothing will happen if you're gone for a day."
"Are you sure you'll be okay alone?"
Emily was worried.
William gave her a reassuring smile. "I know what I'm doing. Go ahead."
He had deliberately sent Emily away so he could have time to handle his own business.
Seeing that William looked well, spoke no differently than a normal person, and was in noticeably better spirits than before, Emily felt somewhat relieved.
"Then I'll head back first. Don't worry, I'll come back this afternoon and won't be gone too long."
"Okay."
William agreed and watched Emily leave, the excitement in his heart growing.
An idea was gradually taking shape in his mind.
When he returned to the Brown Mansion, should he bring Emily along?
But the prerequisite was that Oscar and Nina had to be his biological children.
Only then could he prove that Emily was the person he had that one-night stand with years ago.
Yes, he had feelings for Emily.
To be precise, he only really felt this after the incident.
Before, he always felt this feeling was vague and never thought about it carefully.
Even when he felt reluctant to part with Emily, he never thought of it as love.
But after he woke up from his coma after being injured in the organization, the first person he wanted to see was Emily.
Tony also said he had kept calling Emily's name while unconscious.
By now, William was very certain.
He liked Emily, very much.
"Why aren't the test results out yet?"
William muttered to himself.
He couldn't sit still anymore and wanted to go check on them himself.
On the other side, Emily had already returned home.
"Mommy!"
Oscar and Nina immediately rushed over, hugging Emily tightly and not letting go.
Oscar was relatively calm and looked up to ask, "Mommy, why are you home at this time? Don't you need to stay at the hospital with Mr. Brown? Has Mr. Brown been discharged?"
"Baby, not yet."
Emily kissed Oscar on the cheek. "I haven't been home in many days, and you haven't had my home-cooked food in a long time, so I came back for a bit."
"So Mommy, you came back especially to make us lunch today, and you're leaving again soon?"
"So Mommy isn't staying home."
Nina was a bit disappointed.
Emily picked him up and pinched Nina's little nose. "Is Nina unhappy? Don't worry, Mr. Brown won't be in the hospital much longer. He'll be discharged soon, and then I can come home."
"Yay! Mommy can finally come back!"
Nina was very happy.
Emily smiled warmly, too.
Actually, she didn't have big ambitions. Living like this was already good enough -- peaceful and quiet.
But when she thought of Brian, Emily's brows furrowed deeply, and her heart sank.
Brian still hadn't been caught, so she hadn't truly relaxed.
But catching Brian was really not an easy task.
The police had made no progress. Although they had tried many ways to get Brian to show himself, Brian never took the bait.
His company, career, connections -- he had abandoned everything. No one knew where he was hiding.
The police even suspected Brian might already have left the country. They had blocked airports, train stations, and other major checkpoints, but found nothing unusual and no record of Brian leaving the country.
He hadn't even left the state.
That meant either Brian really hadn't left the city, or he had gotten out by being smuggled.
If it really was smuggling, that would add another crime to his record.
How was that any different from seeking death?
Emily let out a deep sigh and forced herself to stop thinking about it.
Thinking about it was useless anyway. She couldn't help the police at all. Besides waiting quietly, there was nothing she could do.
And now, no matter how anxious she was, Brian wasn't going to just suddenly show up.
Seeing how happy Oscar and Nina were, Emily pushed all these messy thoughts out of her mind.
