Chapter 110
Emily's heart tightened. She quickly turned off the stove and rushed over to answer the phone. "Ms. Johnson, hello. I'm the officer who contacted you a few days ago. We now have specific information about Brian's escape route. I'm calling today just to reassure you and to remind you to be careful about your movements. Don't let Brian find out, to avoid any accidents."
Hearing the officer's kind warning, Emily nodded repeatedly on the other end of the phone and responded in a somewhat hoarse voice. "Sir, thank you so much for all your hard work during this time. I just hope my mom can come back safe and sound."
She deliberately emphasized this point, and the police could understand her worry.
"Ms. Johnson, don't worry. We'll do everything we can to ensure the hostage's safety." With that, the officer quickly hung up.
Emily had no interest in cooking anymore. She clutched her phone tightly and sat on the sofa anxiously waiting for news.
Meanwhile, William finally woke up.
After passing out from exhaustion, he had been unconscious for three whole days. During that time, he hadn't eaten anything, surviving only on the IV nutrients the doctor gave him daily.
"What time is it now?" The first thing he asked when he woke up was still about the time.
When he learned it had been three days, William's heart sank.
He knew Emily's personality well.
When she needed him most, William hadn't shown up at all, hadn't even given her an explanation. Did she still need him now?
Thinking of this, he couldn't help but panic. He reached for his phone on the side table, but Tony walked in at that moment. "Mr. Brown, you're finally awake."
Seeing his haggard appearance, William fell silent for a moment, then signaled his subordinate to raise the hospital bed slightly.
He leaned against the bed and looked coldly at Tony. "You were the one who wouldn't let me leave. Do you realize your mistake now?"
Faced with his cold questioning, Tony firmly shook his head. "Mr. Brown, with your physical condition at that time, if you had gone out, you probably would have collapsed in public before long. If something had really happened, I would have been truly at fault. All our subordinates' lives and livelihoods are at stake here. I couldn't ignore them."
Hearing this, William fell silent and said no more.
He knew Tony had already considered everything thoroughly. He had passed out before even leaving the room, so even if he had left the organization, he might not have been able to hold on until he saw Emily.
"Thanks for your hard work these past few days." William's expression softened a bit, then he asked about the organization's current situation. "Did that traitor confess anything?"
He knew Tony wouldn't miss any opportunity to interrogate the traitor.
Sure enough, Tony nodded repeatedly and answered with a serious expression. "Mr. Brown, I've been questioning him for several days. He couldn't withstand the torture and revealed some information. It seems your second uncle already knows everything about our organization. What should we do now?"
"He already knows everything?" William raised an eyebrow, his tone more playful.
"Since he already knows, I don't need to hide it anymore. I can use this opportunity to return to the Brown family. My dear uncle, everything he took while I was away, I'll make him give back every last bit of it."
By the end, William's face had turned completely cold, clearly determined.
"Has anything else happened in the organization these past two days?"
At his question, Tony shook his head. "Things have been pretty quiet these past two days. I've made everyone go see what happened to that traitor. I think for now, no one else should dare to pop up."
They weren't sure if there were other moles in the organization.
Just to make an example out of someone.
With this traitor as a precedent, those people probably wouldn't act rashly again, and the organization could use this time to recover some vitality.
"Good, you can go now. I want to rest by myself for a while." William rubbed his temples, looking somewhat tired.
"Mr. Brown, you're not going to run off while I'm gone, are you?"
Tony asked with some concern, which earned him a cold smile from William.
"If I could run, I wouldn't have let you trap me here in the first place."
He didn't mean anything else by this, just expressing his dissatisfaction.
Tony had followed him for so many years and naturally understood William's personality.
He chuckled and rubbed his head. "Mr. Brown, then rest well. I'll leave now."
With that, he tiptoed out of the hospital room.
William reached for his phone and immediately called Emily.
He didn't know how things were on Emily's end after not showing up for several days, or whether she had worried about him.
While William anxiously waited for the call to connect, Emily had already gotten into a police car.
The officer had called her earlier, saying there was something to discuss.
Emily had originally planned to settle the children and go by herself, but she didn't expect the officer to have already driven to her building.
"Sir, why are you here? I could have come by myself. You didn't need to make this special trip."
"I was in the area anyway, so it's no trouble." The officer gave Emily a polite smile, then opened the car door to invite her in.
Seeing this, Emily couldn't very well refuse. "Well, thank you. I really appreciate it."
Emily got in the car and experienced what it was like to ride in a police car to the station.
Of course, she wasn't a criminal.
Just as she was trying to get some information from the officer without success, William's call came through.
Looking at "William" displayed on her phone screen, Emily paused for a moment, then hung up without a second thought.
She didn't know why William would suddenly appear at this time, but she didn't want to ask for reasons right now, and she didn't want to see William.
Hearing the disconnection sound on the phone, William couldn't help but freeze, feeling somewhat dejected.
Emily was indeed upset with him.
No, he had to find a chance to explain things clearly to Emily. He didn't want so many misunderstandings between them.
William gripped his phone tightly and called again.
However, this time, a mechanical female voice came through. "Hello, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later."
The unavailable message echoed on the phone. William looked down and hung up.
He sat alone in the empty room, feeling somewhat sad.
Emily had blocked his number.
Did she really not want to see him that badly?
She didn't even want to ask about him or hear his explanation?
