Chapter 108
Emily opened the door with excitement, only to find James standing outside holding a bouquet of roses.
James wore a fake affectionate smile on his face, and even gave a little wave when he looked at Emily. "Emily, you were really hard to find."
"What are you doing here?" Emily looked at him coldly, her brows furrowed tight.
"I missed you, that's why I came all this way. If it weren't for the address you left when job hunting, I probably wouldn't have been able to find you." As James spoke, he tried to hand the roses to Emily, but she dodged to the side and continued staring at him coldly.
"What exactly do you want? If there's nothing, please leave, or I'll call the police and report you for trespassing."
Seeing Emily's defensive attitude, James licked the corner of his lips, his eyes showing some excitement.
"You specifically left your current address when job hunting just so I could find you, didn't you? Next time you can make it even more obvious, save me the trouble. Besides, you should at least invite your guest in to sit down." James acted overly familiar and reached out to touch Emily's shoulder.
Seeing him like this, Emily instinctively dodged, her eyes flashing with strong disgust.
"I'll say it one more time - I have nothing to do with you. That address was just what I left for job hunting. If you keep harassing me, I'll report you for trespassing. The last incident probably hasn't completely blown over for you yet, has it? If your dad finds out you're still here looking for me, what do you think he'll think?" By the end, Emily calmly crossed her arms, looking at him with an indifferent expression.
"If you really want to go all out, then I guess I have no choice but to go along with it. After all, I've got nothing to lose."
"You!" James clenched his hanging hand into a fist, veins bulging on the back of his hand. "Emily, how dare you? If it weren't for my help, you probably wouldn't have been able to find your confused mother!"
As if thinking of something, he raised his eyebrows and directly used Amelia as leverage, trying to make Emily give in.
"You know where my mom is?" Emily's pupils shrank suddenly, then she seemed to catch on and said mockingly, "If you really know, then you're probably one of the suspects. When the police trace it back to you, I doubt you'll be this calm."
"You called the police?" James was stunned. Emily nodded.
He suddenly understood, then his tone became calm. "Right, your mom hasn't shown up for days. If you don't call the police, who else can help her? Although I don't know exactly where she is now, if you're willing to be with me, I'll definitely use all my resources to investigate her whereabouts."
This time, when James looked at Emily, there was more fake pity and superiority. "You know I have that ability."
Emily looked at his sleazy appearance and spat directly. "Ugh, don't make me sick! If the police can't do it, how can you? Do you think you run this whole city? James, you think way too highly of yourself!"
With that, Emily didn't want to waste any more words with him and prepared to close the door.
Caught off guard, the door almost hit James in the face.
"You!"
This time James completely lost his temper. He threw the bouquet on the ground and forcefully held the door open with one hand. "Emily, don't be so ungrateful! I'm willing to help you out of our past relationship!"
"Past relationship? I don't know what relationship we have." Emily sneered and without hesitation stomped hard on his shiny leather shoes.
James immediately felt a sharp pain from his toes. He jerked his foot back, his face showing some pain.
Emily showed no mercy and forcefully tried to close the door, but at the last moment James's hand blocked it.
"James, are you done yet?"
James ignored the pain in his foot and forcefully held the door, pushing half his body inside.
He reached out trying to touch Emily's face, but she slapped his hand away hard. "If you want to talk, talk. Why are you getting handsy? What, do you want to add sexual harassment to your charges?"
James was silent for a moment, then finally put his hand down. "Emily, I know we had some misunderstandings before, but those misunderstandings only existed because of Sophia. Now no one can stand between us, our relationship should get back on track. Don't forget, you were the one who was originally engaged to me."
He put on an affectionate look, and if you looked closely at his eyes, they seemed to carry some sadness. "I've been pretending all this time just so that one day you could come back to me. But now that there's a chance, you won't even acknowledge me. Do you really want to hurt me like this?"
"I know you're worried I'll mind those two bastards of yours, but it's okay. If you're willing to be with me, I can reluctantly let them call me dad. That way, they'll have the Smith Group as their backing."
James looked so matter-of-fact that Emily almost threw up.
"James, you should know your place! Why would I ever be interested in you? Because of how you humiliated me before? Everything I'm going through now is thanks to you and Sophia. And now you want me to be grateful to you? Dream on!" Emily's sharp words made James lose face.
His face turned dark as he pointed at Emily's nose and warned repeatedly, "Emily, don't go too far. Don't completely piss me off while I still have patience, or you'll find out what happens to you!"
As soon as he finished speaking, as if throwing away all restraint, he kicked the door open and lunged to grab Emily's clothes.
Emily fought back hard. Just then, the children suddenly rushed out, one holding a toy fork and the other holding a frying pan.
James was startled by the suddenly appearing children. Before he could react, he felt pain all over his body.
"Ow!"
He roughly pushed the children away.
The moment the children were about to fall, Emily caught them.
Without hesitation, Emily lifted her foot and kicked him right in his most vulnerable spot.
