Chapter 202 The Rival in Love's Provocation
How dared Nova use Louis's phone to make a call! Only she could come up with such a wild idea.
Elizabeth sobered up instantly, her anger flaring. She didn't hold back, responding with a cold, mocking laugh.
"Matthew's made it clear to you over and over again. Are you still gonna keep bugging him?"
The other end of the line fell into an eerie silence.
Nova stared blankly at the phone screen, shocked that the person who answered wasn't Matthew, but the last person she wanted to hear from.
Clenching the phone tightly, she practically spat out her words through gritted teeth.
"None of your business. With your background, you wouldn't even be fit to work as a servant at the Moore Villa in Silvermist City! Don't think just because Matthew likes you, you can do whatever you want. You don't deserve to stand by his side!"
Elizabeth never cared about others' opinions on whether she was worthy or not. Besides, she hadn't gotten together with Matthew because she liked him in the first place.
She glanced at the man still showering in the bathroom, then lowered her voice with a smile.
"You don't need to tell me that. After all, it's Matthew who's been chasing after me."
Nova snapped, exclaiming, "I know you're just trying to show off. You're disgusting!"
She had never seen Matthew treat anyone so specially, and she was already jealous.
Elizabeth didn't bother responding, placing the phone aside.
"I don't have time to argue with you. Matthew's in the shower. If you have something to say, wait until he's out."
Ignoring the cursing on the other end, Elizabeth yawned, feeling sleepy, and lazily lay down on the bed.
Elizabeth had figured it out by now. Nova was just a delusional woman, not worth her attention.
It wasn't worth getting upset over her.
A few minutes later, Matthew emerged from the bathroom.
He wore a loosely tied bathrobe, exposing a large expanse of his chest, seemingly trying to seduce Elizabeth.
Seeing her lying there, Matthew dried his dripping hair as he walked over.
"Next time, don't drink so much. Otherwise, I'll have to punish you!"
Elizabeth smiled, not in the mood for flirting. She pointed to the lit-up phone.
"Sorry, I answered your call while you were in the shower."
Matthew looked down and saw Louis's name.
But Nova's voice came through the phone, filled with desperate excitement.
"You finally answered! Do you know how awful the things Elizabeth said to me were?"
Nova was spreading rumors about Elizabeth again. Elizabeth was genuinely amazed by her ability to fabricate such stories.
But instead of getting angry, Matthew smiled.
"I can imagine how harsh her words were. Didn't she have every right to insult you?"
He didn't give Nova a chance to speak, cutting her off with a cold warning.
"This is the last time I'm telling you. If you call me again, don't blame me for taking action against you."
Nova's already broken heart shattered completely at his words.
Clutching the phone, she let out a self-deprecating laugh as tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
Matthew didn't care at all, already apologizing gently to Elizabeth.
"Sorry she bothered you again. Are you okay?"
Elizabeth shrugged, "Just a clown, nothing more."
Hearing their conversation, Nova felt like she was being strangled, struggling to breathe.
Gripping her chest, she broke down in tears, unable to form a coherent sentence.
Matthew, in a good mood after his shower, was now irritated and hung up the phone.
He didn't care why the call came from Louis's phone.
As soon as he hung up, Matthew put the phone on silent, tossed it aside, and jumped onto the bed, hugging Elizabeth.
Despite his tall frame, he lay in her arms, holding her waist like he was seeking forgiveness.
Elizabeth rarely saw him so docile. The contrast with his usual decisive demeanor was too stark, making her laugh. She reached out and pinched his face.
But his face had no extra flesh, thanks to his regular workouts and low body fat. She only managed to pinch a bit of skin.
Feeling awkward, she let go.
Matthew froze. "You don't think I'm getting old, do you?"
"No," Elizabeth defended herself, "it's just..."
She couldn't bring herself to say it. Seeing Matthew's face darken, she bent down and kissed him.
After a few minutes of passionate kissing, Matthew was easily appeased.
After helping Elizabeth change into her pajamas, he didn't continue teasing her and held her as they slept.
Once Elizabeth fell asleep, Matthew couldn't sleep. He picked up his phone and saw Louis's apology text.
Louis: [Sorry, Matthew. Nova grabbed my phone earlier, but I got it back. You and Elizabeth didn't fight, did you? Today's incident was my fault. I forgot what you told me.]
Matthew knew it wasn't Louis's fault and didn't want to make a fuss. He replied briefly and then lay down beside Elizabeth to sleep.
Meanwhile, in Silvermist City.
Relieved after receiving Matthew's reply, Louis glared at the sobbing woman beside him.
"We're friends, right? You know you have no chance with Matthew anymore. Why did you take my phone to do this?"
Nova didn't answer, just kept crying.
Annoyed by her wailing, Louis's patience wore thin. He couldn't help but mock her.
"You know, you really can't compare to Elizabeth. No wonder Matthew doesn't want you. She's younger than you but much more mature. You have known Matthew for so long yet have made no progress."
This was truly a case of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!
