Chapter 246: Monetary Humiliation
Chapter 246: Monetary Humiliation
Emily had imagined countless endings with Jeremy, but she never thought there would be a day when he would humiliate her with money.
Her tears welled up but stubbornly refused to fall. She held back her shattered pride and repeatedly questioned the man in front of her.
"Using money to buy off three years of feelings? Jeremy, am I that insignificant to you?"
"Don't forget, you once swore you loved me and wanted to marry me. How can you treat me like this now?"
Passersby stopped to watch, many of them familiar faces from the lab.
Jeremy took off his lab coat, not wanting to be recognized as entangled with Emily. His gaze behind his gold-rimmed glasses was as cold as ice.
"You should be grateful I'm willing to pay. If you don't want it, then forget it."
Jeremy's words were cold and detached.
"My time is limited. I hope that after today, we can be done with this. Don't waste my time anymore."
Emily's throat tasted of iron as she clutched her dress tightly. "You never loved me?"
"No." Jeremy turned away indifferently. "You just reminded me of Elizabeth. It was your luck to resemble her even a little."
Otherwise, they would never have started, and the subsequent engagement and drama would never have happened.
But fundamentally, they were different.
The pure and kind Elizabeth, despite her hardships, had only become more resilient and attractive.
Emily, on the other hand, was a vile woman from start to finish, incomparable to Elizabeth.
Even though they had broken up long ago, Jeremy's words still pierced Emily's heart like sharp needles.
Emily suddenly laughed hysterically, tears streaming down her face as she recalled everything.
She laughed maniacally, pointing at Jeremy with a triumphant tone.
"Jeremy, do you think I'm still the Emily you can trample on? Let me tell you, I'm Mr. Ramirez' long-lost daughter!"
"This is the price for abandoning me. Now I'm returning to my wealthy family, and I will never reconcile with you! You can spend the rest of your life regretting and feeling guilty!"
After Emily finished speaking, a dead silence spread.
Moments later, the scene Emily imagined of Jeremy begging for her return did not happen. Instead, he calmly put on his coat and nodded without even looking up.
"I heard. Congratulations, Ms. Perez, on reclaiming your heritage."
Jeremy slowly put on his sunglasses, a sarcastic smile on his lips. "But that has nothing to do with me."
With that, Jeremy unexpectedly turned and walked away, not wanting to waste another moment with Emily.
Emily stood there, laughing incredulously.
How could this be? She was now Colt's daughter, and Jeremy, a fallen man, still didn't want her?
That was Colt! How could Jeremy not care?
Even though Elizabeth had humiliated him multiple times, he still pursued her relentlessly, refusing to give up, like a pathetic dog following her.
All the golden boys were willing to bow to Elizabeth, while Emily didn't even have the right to be hated.
Watching Jeremy's receding figure, Emily clenched her fists, her nails digging into her flesh.
Since these men loved Elizabeth so much, Emily would make sure she suffered miserably.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth, planning to go out for dinner with Matthew and the others, sneezed.
She rubbed her nose; this wasn't the first time it had happened recently.
Alice came over and handed Elizabeth a tissue. "Someone must be talking about you behind your back."
Elizabeth smiled, thinking of someone. "Emily is in Silvermist City now. Did you know? I'll tell you about it on the way."
Alice's eyes widened. "What? That little witch did so many bad things, and now she's in Silvermist City!"
Elizabeth just smiled.
"This situation has become a bit complicated. I'll explain on the way."
On the way to the restaurant, Elizabeth told Alice about Emily being Colt's illegitimate daughter. Alice was so angry she almost swerved the car.
"How disgusting is this Jessa? Everyone thought she was your dad's illegitimate daughter, and now she's someone else's! How many men has she been with?"
Elizabeth just smiled, but Louis's face turned serious at the mention of Colt.
"Emily's luck is indeed outrageous. The Ramirez family is one of the top families in Silvermist City. Now that Emily is with them, she won't be easy to deal with."
Alice got even angrier.
"Why? She's done so many bad things!"
Thinking of such a person still free and unpunished by the law, Alice felt it was too unfair.
Elizabeth, however, was not in a hurry. She patted Alice's back to comfort her.
"Don't be angry. The higher someone climbs, the harder they fall."
The Perez family's issues were serious in Skyhaven City, but outside of it, few people knew.
But the Ramirez family's matters were different.
When the four arrived at the restaurant, they ordered a large table of food.
Since their last meeting, it had been a long time since they had gathered like this.
Alice's previous gloomy mood vanished, and she happily enjoyed the meal.
After Louis and Alice went to the restroom, Matthew looked thoughtfully at Elizabeth.
"I haven't had a chance to ask you, what are you planning to do about the lab?"
Matthew had not been interested in the lab before, but now that Elizabeth was deeply involved, he had someone investigate and found out how complicated the situation was.
As the leader, Rose, she was undoubtedly seen as an enemy by those with ambitions.
Elizabeth smiled, already having a plan.
"I plan to enter the lab as a trainee, using the name Elizabeth. What do you think?"
Matthew was stunned for a moment, then laughed.
"Sounds good. I'm looking forward to the day your true identity is revealed. I wonder how Colt and the others will react."
