Chapter 188 Mistaken Identities
Connor led Lily through the office area, their small figures darting between desks and hallways.
The two children slipped into the room where equipment was stored, but not before Simon caught a glimpse of them. When he saw two children who looked exactly like Lily suddenly appear and then vanish before his eyes, Simon experienced a surreal moment of disbelief.
He rubbed his eyes and leaned forward, peering carefully in that direction. Unfortunately, the two children had only flashed briefly in front of him before disappearing.
"What's happening? Am I seeing things?" Simon muttered to himself.
Hearing this, Harrison looked at him with confusion. "What's wrong with you?"
Simon awkwardly told Harrison, "I think I just saw Lily."
Upon hearing Simon's words, Harrison turned and furrowed his brow. He looked at Simon with an expression of disbelief. What was wrong with Simon? He had just texted Victoria, who told him that Lily was lying on her bed at home watching cartoons.
Simon claimed he just saw Lily here—was he seeing ghosts? Frightening himself in broad daylight.
"If you're having mental problems, you could ask one of the doctors from the Ella Johnson Medical Team to examine you," Harrison remarked with a straight face, his tone sarcastic.
Simon defended himself. "Mr. Frost, I really did see Lily, and not just one—there were two of her. One dressed as a girl, one dressed as a boy. They suddenly appeared and then suddenly disappeared right in front of me. I'm certain what I saw was Lily."
Simon's increasingly bizarre claims made Harrison snort coldly.
"Enough nonsense. Take tomorrow off and go to the hospital for a complete checkup."
Harrison turned and led Simon toward another section of the office area.
Meanwhile, Connor and Lily, hiding in a corner of the office, each clutched their chests in relief.
Lily's fear was that if Harrison recognized her, he would inevitably take her away from Elena.
Connor worried that if they encountered Harrison and he noticed how he and Lily looked identical, Harrison would certainly investigate the truth.
The time wasn't right for everything to be revealed yet.
After calming himself, Connor patted his chest and said, "That was close. Good thing we ran fast, otherwise the consequences would have been unimaginable."
Lily agreed, "Exactly. I just want to stay with mom. I don't want to go back to the Frost estate."
Simon, who was leaving with Harrison, kept looking back, trying to confirm that the two children he had just seen weren't a figment of his imagination.
Unfortunately, Connor and Lily were well-hidden now, making it impossible for Simon to discover their presence.
At the Frost estate, Mia was absorbed in playing games on her phone, clearly enjoying herself immensely.
She was boisterously engaged in her mobile game, occasionally stomping her feet and pounding her chest in excitement, causing Victoria, who sat across from her, to worry.
Though Victoria didn't often stay in Pinewood City and didn't live with Lily regularly, she knew from Harrison and the household staff that her granddaughter was a very well-behaved child.
The real Lily ate slowly, never engaged in vigorous activities due to her condition, spoke in soft tones, and had a stable temperament—the quintessential image of a docile girl.
Victoria felt a sense of alarm as she looked at Lily, who was now so different from how she remembered. The stark contrast in behavior made Victoria suspicious.
She summoned Lily's regular nanny and quietly asked, "Tell me, is Lily usually like this?"
The nanny shook her head. "Mrs. Frost, I've been responsible for Lily's care for over two years, and she was never like this before."
"Is that so? I thought something seemed unusual too," Victoria raised her eyebrows and looked again at Mia, who was still playing her game.
Perhaps because her teammates weren't performing well, Mia lost this round. She crouched on the sofa, pounding her chest and stomping her feet, angrily exclaiming, "You idiot! How can you be so stupid? If you hadn't dragged us down, I wouldn't have lost! Wouldn't have lost!"
Her behavior made Victoria even more concerned about her condition.
The nanny timely whispered, "Mrs. Frost, I've heard from the older staff that children like Lily who undergo major surgery might experience personality changes."
"In my opinion, perhaps you should take her to the hospital for an examination. This sudden personality change might be caused by the surgery."
Victoria took the nanny's suggestion seriously.
Her granddaughter's abrupt personality change might indeed be due to the surgery. She needed to take the child to the hospital for an examination.
Victoria was a decisive woman who acted immediately on her decisions, especially concerning her granddaughter's health—she couldn't afford any delay.
Just as Mia was thoroughly enjoying her game, Victoria, now dressed to go out, swooped her up into her arms and strode toward the exit.
As she walked, she instructed the household staff. "You two, bring Lily's things. Let's hurry. And is the driver ready? Let's go!"
Victoria's sudden actions left Mia, who had been playing her game, completely bewildered.
She reached out to touch Victoria's forehead, then touched her own—temperature normal. What did Victoria mean? Where was she taking her?
With nannies and drivers involved, was she planning to kidnap her?
Mia grew worried.
She turned to ask Victoria, "Grandma, where are you taking me?"
Victoria continued hurrying toward the car while telling Mia, "Taking you to the hospital for an examination."
When Mia heard that Victoria planned to take her to the hospital for a checkup, her mind went blank with shock.
She was Mia, not Lily. Lily was the one who had surgery. What could an examination at the hospital possibly reveal about her?
No, no, she absolutely couldn't go to the hospital. If they examined her heart, wouldn't her true identity be exposed?
Mia was inexplicably worried, not knowing how to stop Victoria from taking her to the hospital.
