Chapter 233: Quinn

Chapter 233: Quinn

William's face instantly turned deathly pale. He froze in place, unable to move for a long time.

Short-sighted?

Did Larry really criticize him like that? Or was Noah deliberately lying to him?

Over the past two years, William had made the business thrive and even expanded several new business lines. Everyone praised him - how could Larry say he was short-sighted?

Noah looked at his embarrassed expression, tugged at the corner of his mouth, then turned to look at Phoebe. "Go get some books from Martha and read them first. If there's anything you don't understand, I'll explain it to you when I get back tonight."

"Okay," Phoebe said.

Only then did Noah open the car door and get in. Just as he was about to close the door, William suddenly rushed over and grabbed it. "Noah, your grandfather?"

"Whatever it is, we'll talk about it tonight. I need to get to the office." Noah raised his wrist to check his watch. Without giving William a chance to refuse, he closed the car door directly, started the car, and sped away.

William watched the car gradually disappear from view, his face full of defeat, with a hint of anger showing through.

Phoebe left the gate expressionlessly and went to Jade's bedroom to find her.

The bedroom door was half-open. Jade sat on the edge of the bed, her face streaked with tears.

She wiped the tears from her face, took out several bottles of medicine from a drawer, poured out seven or eight pills, and swallowed them.

Seeming to sense Phoebe's gaze, Jade looked over in panic. "I have a cold, just taking some cold medicine!"

"Have you seen a psychologist?" Phoebe asked through the door.

Jade tugged at the corner of her mouth, her eyes evasive. "I'm fine, I don't need to see a psychologist! Those doctors are all the same - they can say you're sick when you're not, turn a small problem into a big one, just to make more money!"

"Alright." Phoebe didn't say more and returned to her room. She asked Victor to find out about good psychologists and got their contact information.

However, this psychologist's schedule was very full - the earliest they could spare two hours to see Jade was in ten days.

Phoebe had also wanted to ask if they could recommend any medication to prepare for Jade in the meantime, but the doctor had to catch a flight and hung up right after speaking, giving her no chance to ask.

"Patients with depression and irritability - these types of psychological issues - are very resistant to seeing doctors."

"If Mrs. Foster's condition hasn't reached a certain severity yet, I suggest you don't consult other doctors before meeting Dr. Monroe, to avoid Mrs. Foster becoming overly resistant to psychologists, which would affect Dr. Monroe's assessment and treatment."

Victor called again to ask about the situation and reminded Phoebe of a few things.

Phoebe hung up the phone and thought about Jade's condition for a while, but had no clue.

She arranged for a servant to keep an eye on Jade's situation at all times, then started seriously reading the finance books.

She had never been exposed to this kind of professional knowledge before. There were so many technical terms that she spent nearly the entire morning on one paragraph, mostly looking up professional terminology.

During this time, Jade and Martha came by to bring her fruit and snacks, asking her to take a break, but she declined.

Three days passed in a flash.

During these three days, Ryan was busy with something - Phoebe didn't see him at all until she was about to start work at the company. She finally saw him at breakfast.

"Those people smile at you to your face, but who knows what they're saying behind your back. Don't be too naive, don't treat them as friends, or you won't even know when you've been betrayed!"

"If you meet with clients, especially male clients, make sure to go with someone else. Some people have terrible character - you absolutely can't be alone with them!"

Ryan rattled off a long list of warnings, and Phoebe agreed to all of them.

The phone vibrated.

Ryan quickly took a sip of milk, swallowed what was in his mouth, and answered the call. "Mr. Campbell, right now? That's too rushed, can't you wait until I finish eating? Okay, okay, don't replace me, I'm coming right now!"

He hung up with a dark expression, cursed something, then quickly grabbed a piece of bread, stuck it in his mouth, put on his suit jacket, and headed out.

"Take a glass of milk with you," Phoebe called after him.

Without looking back, Ryan waved his hand at her. "Not taking it! That guy said if I don't come now, he's going to replace me."

The last part was too far away for Phoebe to hear clearly.

Based on what he said during the phone call, he probably said, "Replace me."

No matter what, Ryan was still the chairman's son of Foster Enterprises, addressed as Mr. Foster.

Under normal circumstances, no one would be so arrogant as to know his identity, especially if they were a business partner of Foster Enterprises.

Unless it was arranged by William, with the purpose of making Ryan back down.

Phoebe slowly chewed the food in her mouth and turned to look at William, who was talking with Noah.

"Hurry up and eat. After you finish, you still have to go to work. Don't be late on your first day." William didn't like the way she was looking at him and said with a frown.

Noah cut a piece of salmon for Phoebe. "There's still over forty minutes, no need to rush. Take your time eating. I can drive faster on the way."

He looked at William with a slight smile. "Right?"

"Yes." William awkwardly responded. "But you also have to go to work, so you don't need to drive her. She can ride with me."

Noah took a napkin and wiped the corner of Phoebe's mouth. "After all, it's my girlfriend's first day at work, of course, I have to drive her."

William gave a dry laugh and said nothing more.

After breakfast, the three of them went to Foster Enterprises together.

"Learn more, do more, talk less. You can parachute into the position of assistant to the CFO because of your special status, but you also have to bear the harsh scrutiny that comes with that status." Noah gently brushed aside Phoebe's stray hair and kissed her lightly near her earlobe.

Phoebe instinctively shrank her neck, pushed open the car door, and got out, stood next to William, who had already gotten out, then walked into the company with him.

Foster Enterprises was far from comparable to the White Group - you could tell from the headquarters building - but Foster Enterprises wasn't small either, and stood out quite prominently in this area.

"Good morning, Mr. Foster, Ms. Foster."

"Good morning!"

"Good morning, Mr. Foster."

William was both the chairman and CEO of Foster Enterprises.

Many people greeted them along the way, and from time to time, people looked at Phoebe with curious eyes.

"Don't think you're special just because you're my daughter. Do what you're supposed to do normally, don't be full of yourself and embarrass the Foster family!" William entered the elevator first and warned her. "Got it?"

Phoebe followed him into the elevator and stood beside him. "If you were afraid I'd embarrass you, you should have brought me to the company to learn earlier, instead of selfishly letting me accomplish nothing."

William's face turned red with anger, glaring at her. "You!"

"What?" Phoebe turned her head, looking at him expressionlessly.

William lowered his hand and snorted heavily.

The elevator arrived, and he got off without looking back, ignoring Phoebe.

Phoebe didn't pay attention to him either and followed behind at an unhurried pace.

The two walked into the CFO's office. Inside sat a slender, short-haired middle-aged woman, with a young man standing across from her, head hanging as he got scolded.

"You can leave now." Seeing the two enter, the woman dismissed the young man, then stood up and looked Phoebe up and down without hiding it.

Phoebe let her look, smiling slightly. "Hello, I'm Phoebe."

The woman frowned and didn't acknowledge her, instead looking at William.

"She hasn't been exposed to this area before, so I'll have to trouble you to put in more effort from now on." William's tone was gentle.

Quinn Archer's attitude didn't soften at all because of his words. She said coldly, "I hate people who take up positions without doing the most work. Let me say this upfront - if after a month and a half, she still can't keep up with my work pace, or if I tell her to do something and she doesn't do it, she needs to leave immediately!"

Phoebe calmly sized her up, uncertain whether her attitude was specifically instructed by William or if she was just like this naturally.

William sighed. "Quinn, I know your temper. Don't worry, if Phoebe doesn't meet your requirements, I absolutely won't force her to stay here."

He patted Phoebe lightly. "Did you hear that, Phoebe?"
