Chapter 95: Drawing Blood and Selling Kidneys Will Settle Scores with Him
"You think you can earn thirty million dollars? Scarlett, I knew it - you've been putting on an act all along. You never really planned to leave the Wilson family, did you?"
Blair's eyes were full of contempt. Scarlett had never worked a day in her life - she and her whole family were parasites.
Without the Wilson family, where would Scarlett get thirty million dollars? This was just a game of playing hard to get.
Blair never hid her dislike and disdain for Scarlett. In Blair's eyes, Scarlett was just a woman clinging to the Wilson family - how could she willingly let go so easily?
Scarlett knew this and tried to stay calm. "Don't worry, since I signed the divorce agreement, I'm determined to go through with the divorce."
But Blair still didn't believe her. "Swear on it then."
Scarlett smiled. "Believe it or not, I don't have to make you believe me. I came here today to see Elliot. If there's nothing else, I'll leave now."
As Scarlett turned to go, Blair grabbed her and said mockingly.
"You don't dare swear! Your true colors are showing now, aren't they?"
Scarlett frowned. "You don't need to provoke me. You don't trust me anyway, so whether I swear or not makes no difference. Daniel and I agreed on a deadline - it's only about ten days away. Just be patient, and you'll see soon enough.
But if you keep causing trouble for me, who knows - I might get so upset that I change my mind and refuse to leave after all."
"Are you threatening me?" Blair was furious.
Scarlett pulled her hand away. "Think whatever you want."
Blair stared at Scarlett, feeling a tightness in her chest.
Scarlett was completely different from before - no longer timid and always compromising. She seemed to really mean what she said.
But the Wilson family could throw her out. Scarlett was a poor little thing raised by the Wilson family - what right did she have to act so high and mighty, as if the Wilson family were some kind of hellhole?
Blair felt extremely uncomfortable. She took a deep breath before nodding.
"In that case, there's no need to wait another ten days. Here's the thirty million dollars I prepared. Contact Daniel right now and go to the marriage registration office with him to get it done."
Blair took out a bank card from her bag and handed it to Scarlett.
Scarlett glanced down at it and shook her head. "I don't need it."
"You don't need it, or you really never planned to divorce? Scarlett, if the Wilson family hadn't taken you in fourteen years ago, who knows where you'd be dead by now. People should be grateful and know their place.
You and Daniel were never from the same world. If you hadn't done that shameful thing four years ago and tricked Mother into taking your side, insisting she arrange the marriage, how could you have married into the Wilson family?"
Scarlett had always known what Blair thought, and knew that everyone probably thought the same way.
But Scarlett didn't realize that hearing these words from Blair's mouth would be so harsh and hurtful, so hard to bear.
Scarlett's face turned Pallid. She clenched her hands and stated once more.
"I will divorce him. I'm not taking your card simply because I made an agreement with your son - I'll repay this money through my own efforts, not by playing tricks to delay. Don't worry, even if I have to sell my kidney, donate blood, or beg on the streets, I, Scarlett, will repay every single cent of that thirty million dollars!"
Scarlett's clear eyes turned red, but they were filled with determination.
Blair looked at Scarlett. After a moment, Blair smiled slightly, put the card back in her bag and said, "Very good. Then I'll believe you this once. Just don't put on another act of false pride!"
Scarlett smiled. "So once I repay this money, I'll be done with the Wilson family, right?"
She could finally stop carrying this heavy burden of gratitude, stop being looked down on by Blair every day, stop being told she didn't deserve dignity or to hold her head up high.
Once she repaid this thirty million dollars, could she, Scarlett, finally be a proper person with dignity?
Blair laughed. "Fine. As long as you divorce Daniel cleanly this time, we'll call it even with the Wilson family. I'm not a harsh elder - after all, you did grow up in the Wilson family. If you run into trouble in the future and come to the Wilson family for help, I'll still help you out for Elliot's sake."
Of course Scarlett would never ask Blair for help. Scarlett just smiled faintly at Blair, then turned and opened the door to the stairwell.
But Scarlett didn't expect that after just two steps, she'd run into Daniel coming out of the nearby elevator.
Daniel's eyes swept over, his gaze settling on Scarlett's pale face and reddened eyes.
Scarlett froze for a moment, then quickly lowered her head.
"Daniel?"
Just then, Blair also came out of the stairwell.
Daniel's eyes moved between her and Scarlett, looking thoughtful.
Blair quickly stepped forward to explain. "Scarlett came to see Elliot. We just talked about Elliot's condition, and Scarlett felt so bad for Elliot that she cried."
"Is that so?" Daniel's gaze fixed on Scarlett.
Scarlett raised her head to look at him. Her eyes were now completely dry. She nodded.
"I already saw Elliot. There's nothing I can do by staying here, so I'm leaving now."
She walked over and pressed the elevator button.
Blair went up and grabbed Daniel. "Daniel, come with me to see Dr. Fields. Isn't he the specialist you specially brought in for Elliot? Why has Elliot's condition still gotten worse?"
Scarlett glanced at Daniel's departing back and stepped into the elevator.
But Daniel stopped in his tracks, looking down at Blair with an oppressive gaze.
"What did you just say to her?"
Blair frowned. "Are you questioning me? What could I have said to her? I just talked about Elliot's condition..."
Daniel stared at Blair, his thin lips curling slightly. "Talking about Elliot's condition requires hiding in the stairwell?"
Seeing she couldn't fool him, Blair said irritably, "It was nothing much. I heard you two signed a divorce agreement, so I asked her if it was true."
"Who told you we signed a divorce agreement?" Daniel's eyes turned sharp.
He had never told anyone about signing the divorce agreement with Scarlett.
Because in his view, that agreement would be voided sooner or later.
"Scarlett told me herself. How else would I know?" Blair frowned.
Blair laughed mockingly again. "Daniel, she's really eager to divorce you now. She even told me that even if she has to donate blood, sell her kidney, or beg on the streets, she'll repay the thirty million dollars to settle accounts with our family. I already agreed."
Daniel suddenly clenched his fists, his eyes clouding over with darkness.
Very good. Scarlett would donate blood and sell her kidney to settle accounts with him.
Scarlett really couldn't wait to announce their divorce to the whole world.
"Daniel, she's being so heartless. Don't go soft on her this time. The Wilson family raised her all these years. She's lived in luxury all these years. She owes the Wilson family so much, and instead of being grateful, she's now holding a grudge..."
Blair was mocking her, but before she could finish, Daniel cut her off coldly.
"She never owed the Wilson family anything!"
"How could she not owe..."
"She saved Grandma's life. For that alone, it was only right for the Wilson family to raise her. Since she married me, she's my legitimate wife. Doesn't my wife deserve to live well?"
After Daniel finished speaking, he didn't look at Blair's extremely Pallid expression and strode away.
Blair stared at his back, so angry that her million-dollar handbag was crumpled in her grip.
