Chapter 93 Wearing the Wedding Ring
Daniel didn't know how long he'd been standing there, coldly watching her get bullied and fall into danger.
Scarlett felt a chill in her heart, and that chill sparked anger. She suddenly broke free and slapped Dax hard across the face.
Dax was stunned for a moment, then flew into a rage.
"How dare you hit me! You've got some nerve, you little bitch!"
Dax swung his hand toward Scarlett. She squeezed her eyes shut.
But the slap never landed. Instead, she heard a scream.
She opened her eyes to see Daniel's tall figure now standing in front of her.
Daniel had twisted Dax's arm. His handsome face looked calm and cold, but his presence was so intimidating that the troublemakers didn't dare breathe.
"Let go of me, I..."
Dax struggled with a Pallid expression on his face. Daniel lifted his foot and kicked him.
Dax flew backward, hit the wall, and fell to the ground.
Daniel raised his hand, and the man who had taken Scarlett's phone nervously placed it back in his palm.
"Get lost!"
Daniel's cold eyes swept over them. The men clearly recognized he wasn't someone to mess with. Without even trying to argue, they helped up Dax, who was sweating from pain, and left in embarrassment.
Scarlett had been keeping her head down. Only when she felt Daniel's gaze on her did she look up.
She was about to say something, but then she saw Alice and Blair coming up behind Daniel.
Scarlett didn't want to deal with them. She frowned, pulled her phone from Daniel's hand, and said.
"Thanks for just now. They came looking for you, you should go over... what are you doing?"
Before she could finish, Daniel grabbed her wrist.
Daniel pulled her toward the exit as Alice and Blair's voices rang out behind them.
"Daniel!"
"Daniel, where are you going! Come back!"
Daniel didn't turn around. Scarlett thought he hadn't seen or heard them, so she tried to pull her hand back and remind him.
"They're calling you."
"I'm not deaf."
Scarlett fell silent.
"Mrs. Wilson, look..."
Alice watched their figures disappear, then her eyes turned red and she couldn't help but lean on Blair's shoulder.
Blair stared at the doorway with a dark expression, supporting Alice and comforting her.
"Alice, don't be upset. It's not good for the baby."
"But Daniel doesn't seem to want to divorce Scarlett, and he doesn't want to get engaged to me either. There must still be feelings between him and Scarlett. Daniel pulled Scarlett away without even looking back at me. You saw it too, Mrs. Wilson."
Tears of sadness fell from Alice's eyes. She wiped them away, looking conflicted.
"Mrs. Wilson, I don't want to be a homewrecker. Maybe I should get rid of the baby."
Blair was counting on Alice's baby to save Elliot. Hearing this, she immediately gripped Alice's hand tightly.
"Don't talk nonsense! Didn't Daniel just agree to the engagement in front of Scarlett? Scarlett must have done something again, and Daniel was just pulled away by her out of old feelings.
Alice, Scarlett came tonight to ruin the engagement! You're carrying Daniel's baby. If anyone's the homewrecker, it's Scarlett who's been coming between you and Daniel."
"But Daniel still didn't agree to get engaged to me just now."
Earlier, in front of Scarlett, Daniel had gone along with what Alice and Blair said, even mentioning sending Scarlett a wedding invitation.
Alice had taken it seriously and was thrilled.
But as soon as they got back to the private room and Blair brought up the engagement again, Daniel's face turned cold. He said there would be no engagement and left immediately.
Only then did Alice realize he had never planned to get engaged to her. He'd only used her to provoke Scarlett.
Watching Daniel pull Scarlett away, Alice's heart was full of bitterness and jealousy.
"Don't worry, I'll handle this for you. I'll make sure Daniel divorces Scarlett." Blair promised.
Meanwhile.
Scarlett was pulled by Daniel to the parking lot. Daniel opened the passenger door.
But Scarlett stood still. She looked at Daniel.
"I can get back on my own. Isn't it bad for you to just leave your fiancée like this?"
Scarlett really didn't understand what Daniel was trying to do. He was supposed to be discussing engagement with Alice tonight, yet he'd left Alice behind and dragged her away.
One moment this, the next moment that. Was he sick or something?
"I'm still married. Where's this fiancée coming from?" Daniel looked down at Scarlett, his eyes mocking.
"But didn't you just say you'd send me a wedding invitation?" Scarlett was confused.
Daniel laughed coldly. "Weren't you the one who said that first?"
"I didn't..." His eyes were ice cold. Scarlett instinctively protested.
Then Scarlett remembered that she had indeed told Alice and Blair not to forget to send her a wedding invitation, and Daniel had happened to hear it. Scarlett clenched her fingers.
Daniel said that to make her angry?
Scarlett was annoyed. "So, weren't you meeting the parents to discuss engagement today?"
Daniel chuckled. "Bigamy is a crime. You can go to jail for that."
Hearing this, Scarlett suddenly felt relieved. It was only then she realized she couldn't really bring herself to bless him and Alice, and she wasn't as indifferent as she thought.
"I see."
"Are you getting in yourself, or should I help you?" Daniel frowned, looking impatient.
Scarlett didn't refuse again. She lowered her head and got in the car.
Daniel got into the driver's seat. Scarlett sniffed with her nose. "Didn't you drink? Can you drive?"
He had a faint smell of alcohol on him.
Daniel pulled the car out of the parking spot with one hand, not looking at her, just replying flatly: "I didn't drink."
Scarlett was stunned again. She had clearly seen Reid toast Daniel earlier.
If Daniel really planned to marry Alice, how could he refuse when Reid offered a toast?
So the engagement really was made up.
Alice and Thora must have seen her and deliberately followed her to the bathroom to say those things. Later, Alice and Blair were also lying to her.
Scarlett's expression relaxed, and she unconsciously let out a long breath that had been stuck in her chest.
Realizing her happiness, Scarlett bit her tongue, finding herself ridiculous.
She'd said she would let go and be free, yet she was still affected. Besides, Daniel only said he wouldn't get engaged now because they weren't officially divorced yet.
That didn't mean he wouldn't get engaged and marry Alice later.
It was just a matter of time. What was there to be happy and hopeful about? How pathetic.
"Address."
Daniel's indifferent voice came from beside her. Scarlett snapped back to reality and gave him the address.
It was the address of the new apartment she and Sarah were renting. Daniel had never been there.
Only then did he glance at Scarlett again. "Why aren't you staying at Ramon's place anymore?"
Daniel was being sarcastic.
Scarlett rolled her eyes at him. "Ramon isn't mine. You got it wrong."
Daniel gave a light laugh but didn't press the issue. At least she'd moved out of Ramon's apartment, which pleased him.
Because of this, Daniel's voice softened a bit. "I don't know the way. Put it in the GPS."
"Okay."
Scarlett leaned forward to operate it, and the navigation voice started.
The car drove smoothly, and the atmosphere was unusually calm for the first time in a while.
Scarlett thought maybe it was because both she and Daniel had decided to let go and were working toward that, so they weren't so hostile with each other anymore.
She pulled out a wet wipe and cleaned her phone and hands.
Thinking about slapping Dax earlier, Scarlett felt like her hands still had that sticky, disgusting feeling. After carefully wiping herself clean, she remembered that Daniel had also grabbed Dax's hand, so she instinctively said: "Do you want to wipe too?"
As she spoke, she pulled out another wet wipe and offered it to Daniel.
But Daniel didn't take it. Instead, he held out his hand to her. "I'm driving."
He wanted her to do it for him.
Scarlett looked at his outstretched hand, those long fingers, and instantly regretted being so thoughtful.
But not helping now would be awkward, and would make her seem both ungrateful and pretentious.
After a pause, Scarlett took Daniel's hand and carefully wiped his palm and fingers with the wet wipe.
When she got to his long ring finger, her movements gradually slowed, her eyes falling on the ring on his finger.
"Why are you still wearing your wedding ring?"
