Chapter 90 She Was Humiliated
Scarlett bit her lip, "I just wanted to save Sarah, I thought..."
"Thought what? Thought I'd go soft on you, that I'd agree to anything just because you said a few words and put on an act?"
Daniel easily read what Scarlett left unsaid.
But the more he understood her, the more hateful he became.
He saw right through her, deliberately humiliating her. More tears seeped from Scarlett's tightly closed eyes.
Daniel found it annoying, and his words grew sharper.
"I only go soft for my sister and my wife. Do you qualify now? You threw yourself at me like some plaything, and now you're already crying like you're so wronged? How pathetic!"
This was the girl he raised. Four years ago, she'd already done something foolish like drugging him, and now she still hadn't learned her lesson.
Thinking about how she'd rather debase herself like this than come back to be his wife, Daniel wanted to crush that stubborn streak in her.
Scarlett couldn't take his humiliating words anymore. She opened her eyes, red and burning.
"Yes, I was wrong! I'm pathetic, I've learned my lesson. The proud and aloof Mr. Wilson, can you let me go now? And stop acting like some depraved pervert enjoying this while pretending I seduced you!"
A vein throbbed on Daniel's forehead, but his hand on Scarlett's waist suddenly clenched into a fist.
He got up from her and stood straight.
"Don't worry, I'm not that interested in women who throw themselves at me."
Scarlett frantically gathered her clothes and put them on, while her phone kept ringing on the table.
Worried there might be news from the police station, she hurried to grab her phone. Seeing "Jenny" on the caller ID, Scarlett's expression changed slightly.
She'd used Jenny's identity for her prenatal checkup before, leaving Jenny's name.
Scarlett had taken sleeping pills today and was worried, so she'd asked Jenny to check with the doctor. She hadn't expected Jenny to call back now.
Scarlett quickly hung up.
"Why didn't you answer?"
Just as Scarlett breathed a sigh of relief, Daniel's low questioning voice came from above her.
Scarlett felt uneasy, and the clothes she was holding fell to the floor in her panic.
Daniel wasn't a nosy person. Asking like this clearly meant he was suspicious.
Scarlett suppressed her guilt and glared at Daniel with red eyes.
"Do I look like I'm in any state to answer the phone?"
Her voice still trembled slightly, but Daniel didn't withdraw his scrutinizing gaze and asked again.
"Jenny is the one who went with you to the prenatal checkup last time? Why is she contacting you?"
Scarlett picked up her clothes again and answered casually, "I don't know."
She didn't make up a bunch of explanations, which actually dispelled Daniel's doubts. He turned and walked toward the stairs.
Only after his figure disappeared from the living room did Scarlett collapse onto the sofa.
She was exhausted. Thinking about Sarah still at the police station and how she'd gained nothing from this trip, Scarlett cursed Daniel thoroughly in her mind.
After getting dressed, Scarlett left the villa with her head down, searching through her phone contacts, wondering if she should ask William for help.
A Cullinan stopped in front of her, and the driver Otto rolled down the window.
"Mrs. Wilson, Mr. Wilson asked me to take you to the police station."
To the police station?
That meant to pick up Sarah.
Scarlett stood frozen. Otto urged her on, and she quickly stepped forward to open the car door.
As she bent down to get in, she paused, turning to look toward the second-floor bedroom.
At the window, a tall figure seemed to turn and disappear. Scarlett's nose tingled inexplicably.
In the end, Daniel had gone soft on her after all.
In the car, Scarlett replied to Jenny on Facebook. Jenny quickly responded.
[Jessa said occasionally taking sleeping pills once, based on how long you slept, the dosage probably wasn't large. The impact on the baby shouldn't be too serious. She wants you to relax, keep up with your regular checkups, and see a doctor right away if you feel anything unusual.]
Scarlett thanked her and finally relaxed completely.
She held her phone, thinking, then finally opened Daniel's Facebook and sent a message.
[Thank you.]
Daniel didn't reply.
When Scarlett arrived at the police station, she indeed had no trouble getting Sarah out.
By the time they got back to the apartment, it was 2 AM. As soon as they entered, Sarah hugged Scarlett and said in a muffled voice.
"I'm sorry, Scarlett. I couldn't control myself and caused you trouble. Did you go ask Daniel? Did he make things difficult for you?"
Sarah wasn't stupid. Seeing Daniel's car when she left the police station, she knew Scarlett had asked Daniel for help.
"No, he didn't make things difficult. Don't overthink it. Go wash up and get some sleep."
Scarlett rubbed Sarah's head. Sarah hugged Scarlett again before going to her room.
Sarah didn't believe for a second that with Daniel's awful personality, he hadn't made things difficult for Scarlett. Scarlett's eyes were still red.
If she'd known that Alton could be so despicable, she should have held back more.
Sarah went into the bathroom and gave herself a light slap in the mirror as a warning. She really couldn't get drunk easily anymore.
And some people she couldn't afford to mess with. Next time she saw that damned Alton, she'd definitely stay away!
The next day, Scarlett was woken by her phone ringing. She answered groggily, and an unfamiliar male voice came through.
"Hello, Shadowlight Bar? This is Randal Potts from Francesco Flagship Store. We've been in contact before."
Scarlett immediately woke up. She quickly sat up.
"Yes, Mr. Potts, I remember you. Is this about signing the advertising contract?"
"Yes, we need to reconsider this advertising contract on our end. We can't sign it for now. I'm sorry."
Scarlett frowned, "Is there a problem?"
She'd selected several companies to advertise on Ins, and the collaboration with Francesco Flagship Store for violins had been set to sign today. This sudden change of heart must mean something unexpected happened.
"Shadowlight doesn't know yet? You should check out the online discussion first."
"Hold on."
Scarlett hurriedly opened Ins, and it actually froze for a moment.
After reading through everything, she was almost amused by anger again.
"I'll handle this right away. About the signing, can you reconsider?"
"Of course. If Shadowlight can handle the online situation properly, we're still very sincere about the collaboration."
After settling that, Scarlett hung up.
[Honestly, the piece really isn't that good. Shadowlight is just fishing for fame.]
[Spending two million dollars for the premiere of a piece like this, Alice must be crying in the bathroom.]
[Violin solos should be classic pieces. Making such a weird piece is an insult to people's ears.]
Scarlett's Ins was full of mocking and ridiculing comments like these.
And this whole thing was related to Alice.
The opening piece from Alice's recital had been recorded and posted online.
Because Alice spending two million dollars to buy the premiere of Scarlett's piece had trended before and caused quite a stir, the video attracted attention as soon as it was posted.
Netizens clicked on it out of curiosity and appreciation, but Alice played it terribly and got mocked online. This morning, Alice responded.
Alice posted Scarlett's piece online. Alice said she played it according to the sheet music and thought it sounded pretty good.
With Alice's manipulation and paid trolls posting malicious comments, Scarlett, the composer, ended up taking the blame for Alice's poor technique.
"Scarlett, did you see the abuse and mockery online? I didn't go easy on her yesterday. How can Alice still get up and cause trouble? Is she a cockroach?"
Sarah rushed in from outside, saying angrily.
She should have hit harder yesterday and knocked Alice out for weeks.
"Alice got beaten yesterday. It wouldn't be like her not to stir up some trouble." Scarlett laughed lightly.
Seeing Scarlett's relaxed expression, Sarah blinked.
"Scarlett, have you figured out how to fight back?"
