Chapter 75 Scarlett's Background
Natalia knew there were some things she shouldn't say - she had just let it slip.
She immediately nodded, "Right, right. But she's been ungrateful since she was little, not filial at all. I still have to count on you."
"Don't worry. I'll remind Mei to send the money as soon as I get back." She lowered her voice again and whispered in Natalia's ear.
"If Scarlett discovers the truth about her background, she's not someone easy to deal with. Do you think she'd send you to prison?"
Natalia's face turned ugly, and she quickly raised her hand to cover her mouth.
At Royal Country Club, in a private room, the atmosphere was luxurious.
After finishing business with Chris, Daniel leaned back in his chair, drinking alone.
Chris raised his glass. "These past two years, Daniel and Tobias have both been abroad. We barely get together anymore. Today's rare - we can actually sit and talk quietly. When Tobias comes back, we definitely need to have a proper gathering."
The Tobias White that Chris mentioned was from the White family. In Shadow City, the White family was also a long-established noble family. Benjamin and Ella were Daniel's godfather and godmother.
Tobias, Chris, Daniel, and Alton had all grown up together.
Alton nodded. "Yeah, Tobias is even busier than Daniel. Last time I went to Arcturus to shoot a commercial and wanted to see him, he couldn't even spare the time."
Daniel's brow furrowed slightly as he tilted his head back and downed his drink in one gulp.
Seeing that his mood seemed even worse and that he had little interest in their conversation, Chris leaned over and asked.
"Success in business, failure in love - that's really true, isn't it? Daniel, you and Scarlett still haven't made up?"
Daniel glanced at him and laughed. "What do you know? Even when we fight, our relationship is great."
Chris silently sighed. A man's pride - he understood.
"Okay, okay, you two have a great relationship, Scarlett can't live without you. But even if a couple's relationship is good, constant fighting hurts it. How many days has it been now?"
Daniel thought to himself - 29 days since Scarlett first mentioned divorce.
"Want me to help you out?"
Normally, Daniel would never respond to this kind of offer.
But today, Daniel actually looked at Chris and raised an eyebrow.
Chris found it amusing.
So Daniel couldn't keep up the act anymore.
Chris immediately put down his glass and got serious. "When you can't win a woman over, you need to use the big move! Play the victim! As long as she still cares about you even a little, she'll soften. Besides, Scarlett cares so much about Daniel - if there's anything wrong with you, she'd be so worried she'd get mouth sores. She'll definitely fall for this."
Daniel had thought Chris had some good idea, but hearing this, he looked away, uninterested.
Before, Scarlett really did care about him.
When he got even a little sick, even if he didn't take it seriously, she'd stay up all night watching over him.
But that was how she treated the old him. Now she was much more cold-hearted.
He'd even pretended to have a blood disease before, but she still wouldn't move back to Regal Estate or stay a few more days.
Chris was still thinking of ideas. "How about this - I'll message Scarlett on Facebook right now, tell her Daniel's drunk here and ask her to come pick you up. When Scarlett arrives, Daniel, you pretend to be drunk, then you two make love. Tomorrow I guarantee you'll be as loving as ever. How about it?"
Daniel tilted his head back and downed his drink, smirking. "Not a bad idea. Don't mention it again."
Chris shrugged. Just then, his female companion came over, swaying her hips and calling him.
He could tell Daniel didn't want to talk anymore, so he got up and left.
But when he reached the pool table, he still took out his phone, snapped a photo, and sent it to Scarlett.
I've done my part. Whether it works depends on how much Daniel matters to Scarlett.
But as soon as he put his phone down, Alton came over, glanced at the screen, and laughing, also took a photo and sent it to Alice.
"What are you doing? Don't send random stuff!"
"Why should only you send it? Daniel should also see who really cares about him."
Chris grabbed the phone, wanting to recall the message, but Alice's reply had already popped up in the chat.
【Is Daniel drunk? I'll be right there. Alton, please look after him for me.】
Chris was speechless.
He felt like this was going to be a disaster!
That afternoon, Scarlett had moved out of Ramon's apartment with Sarah, and Sarah had returned to the film set that evening.
Scarlett went to bed early. She felt lightheaded and uncomfortable.
She quickly fell into darkness, but her body felt increasingly heavy and tired, like she was in a desert, hot and thirsty.
Scarlett struggled awake to find she had a high fever.
Her limbs felt weak. She barely managed to reach under her pillow for her phone, instinctively wanting to dial that emergency contact.
Before her finger could press it, Facebook chimed.
Scarlett opened it and saw the photo.
Daniel was lounging relaxed against the club's leather chair, his neck tilted back, two buttons of his shirt undone, his superior profile elegant and refined.
Not far from him sat a girl in a short skirt, fresh and innocent-looking, like a college student.
Though they were sitting some distance apart, the girl was clearly stealing glances at him.
That look in her eyes - Scarlett knew it well.
Once upon a time, she too had only dared to secretly look up at him from the shadows with that same gaze.
Scarlett laughed hoarsely, and her phone slipped from her hand.
Dazed and confused, she didn't know how much time had passed when her phone's vibration woke her again.
She groggily answered and put the phone to her ear.
"Scarlett, don't forget to come watch the race tomorrow. Do you need me to pick you guys up? Scarlett?"
When William didn't hear Scarlett's response after a while, he heard heavy breathing instead and frowned.
"William, I... feel terrible."
Scarlett's slurred voice came through, and William was alarmed.
"Where are you? Hello? Scarlett?"
However, there was no more response from the other end.
William had already showered and was about to sleep, but he quickly got up and went to his dressing room.
He rapidly changed clothes and called Daniel.
But no one answered Daniel's phone either.
At the club.
When Alice arrived, she stopped a server before entering the private room, gave some instructions, and handed over two thousand dollars.
She entered the room to find Daniel still sitting in his previous spot, with a woman in a white short skirt tentatively trying to lean against him.
Alice walked over and said coldly, "Back off. He's not a man you can touch!"
The woman was reluctant, but seeing Alice and thinking of the online rumors, she bit her lip and walked away.
Alice was about to sit in that spot when Daniel suddenly opened his eyes.
"That seat doesn't belong to you either."
His eyes were cold and clear, without much sign of intoxication.
Alice froze, hurt and embarrassed.
She swayed and sat down anyway, even falling into Daniel's arms.
"Daniel, you startled me doing that so suddenly."
Before Daniel could push her away, Alice sat up on her own, asking with concern.
"Alton messaged me on Facebook saying you were drunk. I was so worried about you that I personally made some hangover soup. Let me pour some for Daniel, okay?"
She had brought hangover soup, but she hadn't actually made it herself.
She was worried that if she came late, Daniel would be gone, so she'd ordered takeout on the way.
She leaned forward to pour the soup, but Daniel had already stood up. The air around him was even darker than before as he strode toward the exit.
Alice stood up in panic. "Daniel."
Alton and Chris also walked over, and Alton spoke up.
"Daniel, Alice cares about you so much, you..."
Before Alton could finish, Daniel placed his hand on his shoulder and pressed down hard. Unprepared, Alton's entire shoulder went numb with pain, and his body tilted.
Daniel released his hand and walked away.
Alton clutched his injured shoulder. "Why is Daniel so angry? I have two action scenes to shoot tomorrow. Is it dislocated?"
Chris said, "Let me see?"
Alton let go, but Chris slapped it hard, making Alton's face change with pain as he swung at Chris.
Chris dodged and diagnosed.
"Not dislocated. Wise up. Next time you meddle like this, it won't just be about dislocation."
He made a throat-slitting gesture.
Outside the room, Daniel walked quickly toward the exit, his handsome face dark.
Alice came, but Scarlett didn't!
What this meant was obvious, and it made Daniel's heart feel like it was covered in frost and snow.
Alice just had to follow him, trailing behind.
"Daniel, wait for me."
Daniel suddenly stopped. "Don't follow me!"
His voice was harsh and cold, startling Alice. Her eyes reddened, not knowing what she'd done to upset him.
Just then, Tom came hurrying toward them. Daniel ordered.
"Take her home."
But Tom said, "Mr. Wilson, something's happened to Mrs. Wilson."
