Chapter 195 Meeting His Former Fiancée
When Rhea came upstairs with the prepared meal, she walked right into the scene of Daniel holding Scarlett on his lap, kissing her passionately.
Scarlett's long hair tangled in Daniel's broad palm, swaying like a silken flame. Heat pulsed from the scene. Rhea spun away, retreating swiftly. She wavered on descending first when Daniel's deep voice cut from the bedroom: "Leave it outside."
Rhea hurriedly placed the tray on the low cabinet in the hallway and tiptoed downstairs.
In the bedroom, Scarlett heard Rhea's footsteps fade away before pushing Daniel away with a flushed face.
Daniel gazed at Scarlett's flushed cheeks, tracing them with fingertips, thin lips curling. "Enjoy the kiss?"
Her little face had been pale for too long - it was finally showing some color.
Scarlett shot Daniel a fierce glare. No hiding her flush from him, she nodded curtly. "Fine technique. Good kiss. Don't repeat it."
Daniel clucked his tongue, thumb pressing firmly over Scarlett's reddened, plump lips before striding out to fetch the food.
Scarlett was truly hungry. The food Rhea made was light and nutritious, and It should taste divine. The moment Daniel carried it in, Scarlett inhaled the aroma, her stomach growling audibly.
Embarrassed, her ears pinked. Daniel's lips twitched in faint amusement. "Sounds like Bunny's starving protesting from your belly."
As Daniel spoke, he sat down by the bed, stirring the porridge as if ready to feed Scarlett.
"I can do it myself. The doctor only said I need to stay in bed."
It's not like her hands were injured.
But as she lunged for the bowl, Daniel withheld it, cooling a spoonful of porridge before guiding it to her lips.
"I'm feeding my daughter, you can't object." "Who's your daughter!" Scarlett huffed, flushed with annoyance. "Bunny, naturally. Who else?" Daniel arched a brow.
But when Scarlett met his half-smiling gaze, she felt like he was just teasing her.
Treated like a child needing coaxing, she parted her lips, swallowed the porridge, and patted her belly. "How do you know Bunny's a daughter?"
"Then we'll have a son to shield you alongside me. One girl in the family you is plenty."
What did he mean?
Was he hinting that she was difficult to coax?
Scarlett opened her mouth, but before she could protest, Daniel fed her another spoonful of porridge.
Sated, Scarlett watched Daniel rise to summon Rhea for cleanup, then clutched his hand. "Your injury how did it happen?"
The wound on his palm had only been wiped clean of blood with a wet wipe earlier when they were outside.
The bleeding had ceased, but the long scratch scoring his palm still burned red and swollen at the edges, tugging fiercely at her heart.
"So you do care about me?"
Daniel's voice somehow carried a hint of grievance.
She squeezed his fingers and pressed her lips together. "Let me fetch the medicine kit and treat it." "Lie back properly. I'll handle it later. Your concern is enough."
Daniel got up and patted Scarlett's head.
Scarlett fell silent.
The next day,
Scarlett stayed abed, strictly ordered to rest, while Daniel directed Tom to route all urgent business to Regal Estate.
In the afternoon, Daniel came out of the study to have dinner with Scarlett.
After the private physician's checkup assured the baby's steadiness and Scarlett's mobility, she and Daniel finally set out together.
When they arrived at Phoenix Hill Villa, it was already evening.
The sky was spread with sunset clouds. Daniel stepped from the car, then pivoted as Scarlett moved to follow, scooping her into his arms with effortless command.
"The doctor said walking a few steps is fine. Put me down."
Scarlett looped her arms around his neck. From last night through today, her limbs felt delightfully useless, cradled in his constant carry.
It was one thing when they were at home, but now they were outside.
Scarlett felt a bit embarrassed, but Daniel glanced down at her and said.
"Behave."
He quickened his pace. Scarlett looked up at Daniel's superior jawline with its sharp angles and couldn't help asking.
"Meeting your ex-fiancée while carrying me like this - is that really appropriate?"
How could Daniel miss her unspoken thoughts? He glanced down, lips quirking faintly, and halted. "You're right—perhaps you should walk."
Before he finished, Scarlett tightened her hold around his neck. Daniel chuckled low, teasing warmth lacing the sound.
"Saying one thing, meaning another."
Scarlett flushed, seen through, and thumped his chest with a playful fist. By then, Daniel had carried her into the villa.
Scarlett inexplicably felt nervous, her heart rising.
She looked around. She had thought that with someone living in the villa, there would definitely be some changes.
Yet the living room remained as she'd last adorned it, pristine, unlived-in. Footsteps approached then from the kitchen.
and someone walked out.
Scarlett turned her head and saw Waverly.
Waverly emerged with a fruit plate, freezing at the sight of them before mustering an awkward smile. "Mr. Wilson?"
Clearly, Waverly didn't know in advance that they were coming.
Why address him so formally now? Scarlett had clearly heard Waverly call him "Daniel" with intimate ease before.
Scarlett shot Daniel a questioning look, but he avoided her eyes, nodding to Waverly instead. "My wife."
Waverly immediately looked at Scarlett, recognizing her at once, her face showing delight.
"It's you, the woman from the restaurant bathroom, with the burn." Scarlett smiled, nodding. "Yes, I never properly thanked you."
"No need, no need."
Waverly waved her hand,Yet Scarlett noticed the glove still sheathing Waverly's right hand, a strange detail. Her gaze lingered on it a beat longer.
A childish voice piped from the kitchen: "Mommy, I finished washing the strawberries, really clean!"
Scarlett looked over in surprise and saw a four or five-year-old girl carrying a small bowl of strawberries out of the kitchen.
Spotting the pair in the living room, she ducked shyly behind Waverly yet peeked curiously at Scarlett and Daniel. Waverly glanced down, voice softening.
"Kismet, say hello to Mr. Wilson and Mrs. Wilson."
Kismet peeked timidly at Daniel, murmuring, "Mr. Wilson." Her gaze on Scarlett sparked bolder joy, big eyes blinking brightly.
"Miss, is your leg hurt? Don't be sad, here's a strawberry." Kismet plucked a plump red one, rising on tiptoe to offer it.
Scarlett reeled, still stunned. This shattered her assumptions. Was Waverly married with a child?
Scarlett quickly took the strawberry from Kismet's hand and thanked her.
"Kismet, you're so sweet. "This strawberry looks divine,, thank you, Kismet." Daniel eyed the girl without melting; she aged him while youthening Scarlett.
What was cute about that?
Bunny mustn't turn out like Kismet dim-seeming. Kismet, visibly wary of Daniel, shrank behind Waverly.
Waverly patted her head and said, , " Kismet bobbed her head and darted to the cozy nook. Daniel eased onto the sofa, cradling Scarlett.
"You sit down too. Tell my wife about our arrangement."
