Chapter 192 Daniel, I Refuse to Be This Substitute

Chapter 192 Daniel, I Refuse to Be This Substitute

Scarlett was exhausted, both physically and mentally, and didn't want to say anything more.

She just nodded and said stiffly, "I know everything now. Thank you for standing up for me and Bunny."

As soon as she finished speaking, Daniel grabbed her wrist tightly. The force was so strong that Scarlett cried out in surprise.

She looked up at Daniel with a frown. "What are you doing? You're hurting me!"

Tears welled up in her eyes reflexively. Daniel's expression was dark, but he loosened his grip slightly and said coldly, "Scarlett, do you have to talk to me like this?"

Scarlett got angry too and yanked her hand back forcefully.

"What's wrong with how I'm talking? Did I thank you the wrong way? If you don't like what I'm saying, go find whoever you want—Alice or Waverly..."

"Enough! I'm talking about your problem. Why are you dragging them into this?!"

Daniel's handsome face darkened as he cut Scarlett off.

Scarlett looked at him barely containing his anger and found it ridiculous.

How could Scarlett not notice that he lost control like this because she mentioned Waverly?

Scarlett used to be afraid when he got angry—she'd become soft and compliant whenever he was mad. But now she didn't care anymore.

Scarlett laughed mockingly. "My problem? I don't think I have any problem. And even if I do, we're getting divorced anyway. You have no say over me."

Daniel watched her stubborn little face, her whole body bristling with defiance, and the veins on his forehead throbbed.

He worried that if he kept arguing with her, he wouldn't be able to stop himself from pinning her to the bed and punishing her thoroughly.

But her condition was special right now—he couldn't even touch her.

A fire of frustration burned in Daniel's chest. He nodded, his voice hoarse and cold. "Fine, I won't interfere!"

Daniel's tall figure suddenly rose from the bed and stormed out, slamming the door behind him.

The sound of the slamming door echoed through the quiet villa.

It was as if the door had slammed against Scarlett's heart. Her heart pounded violently and couldn't calm down for a long while.

Tears still rolled down Scarlett's cheeks, and she collapsed weakly back onto the bed.

When Tom walked in with the new maid, the living room was filled with heavy cigarette smoke.

Daniel stood alone by the window, his figure lonely and cold. Several cigarette butts were already stubbed out in the ashtray on the side table.

"Boss, this is the new maid Rhea. She's definitely reliable."

Daniel's gaze swept over Rhea, and he nodded and instructed, "Go upstairs and take good care of her. See what she needs or if she wants to eat anything."

Rhea quickly went upstairs, and moments later she hurried back down.

Daniel was still standing in the same spot and immediately looked over.

Although he didn't ask, Rhea knew what to report. "Mr. Daniel Wilson, Mrs. Scarlett Wilson is indeed hungry and asked me to make something simple and bring it up."

Scarlett was hungry—it was good that she wanted to eat.

Daniel waved his hand. "Then go make it quickly."

Rhea nodded, hesitated, then added, "Mrs. Wilson looks like she's been crying. Her eyes are red."

After speaking, Rhea hurried into the kitchen.

Daniel's brow furrowed tightly, and he accidentally broke the cigarette butt between his fingers.

He was still worried after all. He walked upstairs and pushed open the bedroom door.

But he didn't expect to see Scarlett getting out of bed. Her legs seemed weak, and her body tilted as if she was about to fall to the floor.

Daniel was alarmed and rushed forward to catch Scarlett as she was falling.

"Thank you."

Scarlett hadn't expected her body to be this weak either. She spoke, still shaken.

"What are you getting out of bed for? Besides 'thank you,' can you say anything else?"

Daniel's displeased voice came from above her head. Scarlett looked back at him in slight surprise.

She thought he had already left and assumed it was Rhea coming back in.

"I..."

Seeing him return, her feelings were complicated, and she opened her mouth.

Daniel clearly didn't want to hear any more cold words from her. He bent down and picked her up, carrying her back to the bed.

Scarlett instinctively wrapped her arms around Daniel's neck and said softly, "I want to take a shower."

"No. The doctor said you can't shower today." Daniel refused firmly.

"You're not a doctor."

"I asked the doctor!"

He said it with conviction—he had clearly really asked.

Scarlett felt a slight stir in her heart.

She had thought earlier that Daniel, like Blair, only cared about whether Bunny could save Elliot's life, and that was why he wanted to reconcile with her.

But Daniel hadn't let Blair do the compatibility test, and he specifically asked the doctor about these precautions. It really seemed like he cared about the baby.

Scarlett couldn't figure out what he was thinking anymore.

"I want to wipe myself down. I feel gross." Scarlett said quietly.

She had danced at the studio for a long time today, planning to shower at night. But then she was taken to the hospital, and afterward broke out in cold sweats.

She felt like her body smelled bad now.

But unexpectedly, Daniel actually lowered his head and sniffed her hair.

Scarlett turned her head away, embarrassed and annoyed. "Don't smell me!"

Daniel lifted his head and looked at her slightly reddened ears. The frustration and dissatisfaction in his heart somehow dissipated by more than half.

Daniel's lips curved slightly as he raised an eyebrow. "What's the rush? I'm not one of your male fans. Do you really need to maintain an image in front of me?"

Scarlett fell silent.

The dance videos she posted on Instagram, though she never showed her face, did have quite a few male fans.

She didn't expect Daniel to know about that too.

She was speechless for a moment. Daniel placed her on the bed and said, "So uptight in front of your own husband?"

Scarlett turned her head away and muttered, "You won't be my husband much longer."

This time Daniel didn't get angry. He just laughed coldly. "Still want a divorce? Dream on."

"But we've already registered for divorce. In twenty-three more days, we can go get the divorce certificate."

"You've counted it out pretty clearly. But let me tell you straight—even when that day comes, I won't go. Give up on the idea of divorce!"

After speaking, Daniel ruffled Scarlett's hair again. "You don't smell bad. You still smell nice. Be good and stop trying to do things you shouldn't."

His words had double meaning—from refusing the divorce to not letting her shower.

He controlled everything tightly.

Scarlett had never found him so infuriating. After just a brief moment of peace, she was furious again.

She grabbed a pillow and threw it at Daniel. "Are you going to say next that the Wilson family doesn't do divorce, only widowhood? Waverly is back, so why do you insist on holding onto me, a substitute? You might be happy about it, but I have self-respect too, Daniel. I'm telling you, I won't be this substitute anymore!"

Scarlett was truly furious. After throwing the pillow, she leaned over to grab the water glass on the nightstand and hurled it at Daniel too.

She thought she definitely wouldn't hit him—after all, Daniel had good reflexes.

But who knew Daniel would freeze, suddenly standing there completely still.

The glass hit him squarely on the forehead and fell to the floor.

Fortunately, there was thick carpet by the bed, so the glass didn't break. But a red swelling immediately rose on Daniel's forehead.

Scarlett was the one who panicked instead. She knelt on the bed.

"Why didn't you dodge? Just because you heard Waverly's name, you froze? Is she so important to you that just hearing her name makes you lose your composure?"

She was both jealous and annoyed, about to get up from the bed to check his forehead.

But Daniel suddenly reached out and grabbed her arm.

His grip was very strong and hurt Scarlett.

Scarlett's face paled. The next second, the world spun. Daniel pressed her down onto the bed.

His eyes were dark as he gripped her chin and demanded, "Who told you about Waverly? And who said you're Waverly's substitute?"
