Chapter 160 Scarlett Leans Against Ramon
When Daniel came out of the hospital room, this was the scene that greeted him.
On the bench across from the room, the delicate and beautiful Scarlett sat quietly, leaning on Ramon's shoulder, fast asleep. Ramon, with his refined and composed demeanor, remained still.
And Scarlett was wrapped in Ramon's coat.
Daniel's handsome face darkened, his voice cold and sharp. "Scarlett!"
Scarlett was jolted awake. Still groggy, she heard Daniel's voice.
Feeling someone beside her, she instinctively assumed it was Daniel.
She reached out and wrapped her arms around Ramon's waist, her voice mumbled, "What took you so long!"
Before Scarlett could finish her sentence, a strong force gripped her arm and yanked her up from the bench.
She stumbled dizzily and fell straight into Daniel's rigid embrace.
The coat draped over her fell to the ground.
Scarlett fully woke up. She opened her eyes, saw Ramon standing not far away, then looked up at Daniel's grim face, and realized what had happened.
Before she could explain, Daniel looked down at her coldly.
"Who were you just hugging? Can't you tell where your husband is?"
Thinking about how Scarlett had just snuggled into Ramon's arms right in front of him, jealousy burned wildly in Daniel's chest.
Scarlett felt a bit wronged by Daniel's scolding.
Ramon couldn't stand it and frowned.
"Mr. Wilson is being a bit too harsh with her. She's pregnant, yet Mr. Wilson let her sleep alone in this hallway.
Don't you know how troublesome it is for a pregnant woman to catch a cold, Mr. Wilson? If Mr. Wilson can't take good care of her, you shouldn't have forced her to come back!"
Ramon's words were like pouring oil on fire. A storm seemed to sweep through Daniel's eyes as he wrapped his arm around Scarlett's waist.
"My wife and child don't need your tender care. Looks like I went too easy on you with that punch last time!"
Daniel's hand was like an iron grip around Scarlett's slender waist.
His fingers pressed right where Scarlett had been bumped earlier, sending a wave of pain through her.
Thinking about what had happened in the hospital room, Scarlett felt a bit angry. Seeing him come out and get mad without asking what happened made her feel even more wronged.
Now hearing Daniel say he had hit Ramon, Scarlett looked at Ramon and indeed saw a bruise that hadn't faded on his right cheek.
Scarlett immediately felt annoyed. She pushed Daniel away and frowned.
"Daniel, have you said enough? I just accidentally fell asleep. Ramon was worried I'd get cold so he gave me his coat. Is this really necessary?
What happened at the airport last time, I was the one who asked Ramon for help. If you want to blame someone, blame me. Why drag others into it!"
Scarlett felt wronged. If Daniel hadn't completely forgotten she was waiting outside,
if he had come out earlier, would she have fallen asleep on the bench without realizing it?
Why was it that he used to hug Alice right in front of her, but now when she didn't even do it on purpose, he got so angry!
Daniel hadn't expected Scarlett to push him away.
Her attitude now clearly showed she was taking Ramon's side.
The pressure around Daniel dropped. He stared at Scarlett intently, his thin lips pressed tight.
Scarlett felt a bit scared by his frightening look. Frustration and sadness felt like salt scattered in her heart, constantly pulling at her.
For a moment, she almost gave in and apologized.
But she clenched her fists and held back.
Seeing her stubbornness, the emotion in Daniel's eyes gradually settled. He just gave a cold laugh.
"Very good. You've really grown up."
After speaking, Daniel withdrew his gaze, took large strides, and left Scarlett behind.
Scarlett stood there, watching his cold, lonely figure walk away, her eyes burning.
"Scarlett, I'm sorry. It was my fault just now. I should have woken you up."
Seeing Daniel leave, Ramon spoke apologetically.
Scarlett bent down to pick up Ramon's coat from the ground, dusted it off, and handed it to him. Looking at the bruise on his face, she said,
"Ramon, I'm sorry. Let me apologize on behalf of my husband."
Taking the coat, Ramon couldn't miss the distance in how Scarlett referred to Daniel.
His heart dimmed. "Scarlett, have you decided to continue living with him?"
He had naturally noticed the change in how Scarlett addressed Daniel.
Scarlett felt a bit embarrassed, but she met Ramon's gaze and nodded.
"Ramon, I've loved him for over ten years. Now we have a baby. I can't let him go."
Ramon's hand suddenly clenched tight, his heart aching and bitter.
Ramon thought, but Scarlett, do you know?
There's also someone who has quietly liked you for many years, from middle school until now. He's spent his entire youth liking you too.
But looking at Scarlett's clear eyes, Ramon couldn't say these words.
He didn't want to disturb or trouble her too much. He was also afraid that if he said these words, they wouldn't even be able to remain friends.
In the end, a warm smile just appeared on his refined face as he said,
"I'm not that fragile. One punch is nothing, and besides, Mr. Wilson really didn't use his full strength. The way he acted just now, he was probably just jealous."
Jealous?
Scarlett didn't think so. It was probably just Daniel's possessiveness.
If he were jealous, would Daniel leave her here with Ramon and walk away by himself?
Scarlett smiled bitterly for a moment and changed the subject. "Ramon, what are you doing here?"
She remembered that Ramon had already submitted his resignation to this hospital and left.
"A patient I used to treat had a situation. The new doctor wasn't very familiar with the medical history, and I happened to be free, so I came to check."
Scarlett nodded. Ramon was a very responsible doctor.
"So have you given up on studying abroad? Scarlett, you should think carefully." Ramon suddenly said.
A woman trapped in marriage will only slowly wither and fade.
Moreover, standing beside a man like Daniel wasn't easy.
Scarlett was a pearl. Ramon hoped she would shine brightly, not willingly bury herself again in a golden cage built by a man.
Scarlett smiled. "Don't worry, Ramon. Studying abroad is something I fought hard for. I have no plans to give it up."
Seeing she had made up her mind, Ramon said nothing more, just smiled and said, "Mimi has grown into an old cat. Are you interested in coming to my place sometime to see it?"
Mimi was the injured stray cat Scarlett had rescued in middle school. Since Scarlett couldn't keep it, Ramon had taken it home.
Scarlett was surprised that Mimi was still alive. She nodded eagerly.
"Yes! I'd love to. Ramon, contact me when you're free."
Scarlett said goodbye to Ramon and walked toward Daniel's hospital room. As she turned the corner, she stopped in her tracks.
Because not far ahead, a tall figure stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, a cigarette between his slender fingers.
Daniel took a drag, slowly exhaling white smoke from his thin lips. His handsome face was dark and cold, but his figure seemed lonely and lost.
Daniel, who was always noble, composed, and superior, looked even more attractive when dejected.
Scarlett stood there frozen, her heart suddenly skipping a beat.
Was he waiting for her?
Scarlett's nose tingled. For a moment, she didn't dare approach.
She was afraid what she saw was an illusion, that he didn't actually care about her that much.
Or that he was standing there, but not waiting for her.
