Chapter 158 Did Daniel Keep a Mistress at Phoenix Hill Villa?
Scarlett watched Alice's retreating figure, and the ease and calm in her expression shattered, replaced by fear and panic.
No, Alice was deliberately trying to drive a wedge between them. She had already believed her once and been played for a fool.
If she stupidly believed Alice again and rashly questioned Daniel, wouldn't that be exactly what Alice wanted?
A woman he'd been looking for sixteen years? Didn't Alice learn math? How old was Daniel sixteen years ago?
Scarlett walked back to the hospital deep in thought. As she got off the elevator, she happened to see Tom coming by to order food.
"Where is Mr. Green ordering from? Phoenix Hill Villa is close by. How about I go prepare some blood-replenishing dishes myself?"
Tom quickly said, "Jane's preparing them. I just need to pick them up from Regal Estate. Mrs. Wilson, you're pregnant now. If I let you work hard, the CEO will kill me!"
Scarlett smiled and asked, "Has Daniel been to Phoenix Hill Villa recently?"
"No, why do you ask, Mrs. Wilson?"
"Just wondering. Mr. Green, you should go."
Scarlett had been watching Tom's expression the whole time. When she mentioned Phoenix Hill Villa, there wasn't the slightest change in Tom's face.
Tom was Daniel's personal assistant. If Daniel was keeping a mistress at Phoenix Hill Villa, how could Tom not know anything about it?
So it was Alice talking nonsense again!
Since Scarlett had decided to get back together with Daniel, she didn't want to doubt him easily. If a couple doesn't have trust from the start, it's hard to make it work.
Scarlett took a deep breath and looked down at her palm.
In her palm were a few strands of hair that she had just pulled from Alice's head when she had the chance.
Scarlett wrapped the strands around her fingers, put them in her pocket, and walked quickly toward the hospital room.
The hospital room.
When Scarlett pushed open the door, she saw Daniel sitting on the bed holding some documents.
Scarlett walked over quickly and snatched the documents from his hand.
Daniel thought it was a bodyguard. He looked up with a dark expression, his eyes displeased.
Scarlett stood there holding the documents, frowning with dissatisfaction.
"Dr. Runyon said you need to rest properly. You lost a lot of blood. Sleep helps your body recover, don't you know that? The Star Group won't stop running just because you're gone for a day or two!"
Daniel looked at Scarlett standing before him with her face all scrunched up, nagging away. The coldness on his handsome face gradually faded, and nostalgia flashed in his deep eyes.
Some long-lost scenes came to mind.
"Daniel, you can't sleep with wet hair. I'm telling you, when you're old you'll get headaches. Get up, get up!"
"Daniel, why are you looking so gloomy all day again? You need to smile more, like me. If you can't show eight teeth, at least show two. You're so good-looking, not smiling is such a waste!"
And many more...
When she was little, Scarlett loved to boss him around, always nagging.
She was so warm, like a little sun, a ray of sunshine in his cold, dull life.
Later he went abroad, and they gradually lost touch.
When he came back, Scarlett had grown up, become mature and composed, and had grown distant from him.
She was quiet and reserved around him, had her own teenage concerns, and didn't like to talk to him anymore.
No, she had found other people to confide in.
But now, looking at Scarlett, Daniel could see traces of her childhood self.
Daniel's thin lips curved slightly as he beckoned with his finger.
"Come closer."
Scarlett placed the documents on the bedside table and moved closer, bending down.
"What is it?"
The next second, Daniel wrapped his arm around her waist and she fell into his embrace.
"What are you doing? Watch your wound!"
Scarlett lifted her head from his embrace and glared at him.
He leaned back, his cool eyes close to hers, reflecting her small face. His thin lips pressed together slightly as he said.
"Want to boss me around?"
Under his teasing gaze, Scarlett's face turned a bit red.
She bit her red lip lightly and asked back, "Is that not okay?"
Daniel smiled. "Not okay. I, Daniel, don't let just anyone boss me around."
Scarlett's heart felt sour and a bit disappointed.
Was she being too hasty, trying to overstep?
She was about to apologize when she heard Daniel continue.
"But if you really want to boss me around, that's fine, unless..."
Scarlett's eyelashes fluttered. "Unless what?"
"Each time you boss me around, you have to give me something in return."
"Something in return?" Scarlett didn't understand at first.
Daniel raised an eyebrow and pointed to his lips, then crossed his arms behind his head, looking at Scarlett with a lazy gaze.
He was clearly asking her to kiss him.
Under his calm gaze, Scarlett slowly leaned in and quickly pecked his lips.
As she tried to pull back, he pressed the back of her head and deepened the kiss.
He greedily savored the sweet taste between her lips and teeth, only releasing her when satisfied. Pressing his forehead against hers, he said in a husky voice.
"I'll listen to you, but these two documents Tom brought need urgent handling. Will you read them to me?"
Scarlett was breathing lightly from the kiss. Hearing him say this, she nodded without thinking.
She started reading, but gradually realized something was wrong.
Her mouth was getting dry while he looked completely relaxed. Who was actually working here!
Whatever, Daniel was injured, she'd let him have his way for now.
Scarlett somewhat glumly finished reading the documents to Daniel, then revised two data points as Daniel dictated.
Putting down the documents, her mouth was dry, and Daniel had already handed her a glass of water.
Scarlett looked up and met Daniel's deep eyes, rippling with tenderness.
He said, "Thank you for your hard work, wife."
He rarely called her wife so seriously.
Scarlett's face instantly turned red. As she reached for the glass, he brought it to her lips, indicating she should open her mouth. Scarlett parted her lips slightly.
It was just an ordinary glass of water, but she tasted sweetness in it.
But sometimes the sweeter things are, the more you care, the more anxious you become about losing it.
Scarlett inappropriately thought of Alice again, remembering her words. She looked at Daniel.
"You..."
Daniel's thin lips curved slightly as he looked at her hesitant expression casually. "I what?"
Scarlett met Daniel's eyes, hesitated, then decided not to ask. Instead she said.
"Can you not meet with Alice alone in the future?"
Alice was as crazy and obsessed as a madwoman. Scarlett always felt Alice wouldn't stay quiet.
Daniel looked at Scarlett with amusement, saying nothing.
Scarlett felt uncomfortable under his gaze and said irritably, "You won't agree?"
Only then did Daniel laugh, his clear voice unhurried.
"I agree. So Mrs. Wilson has such a strong possessive streak?"
Scarlett felt a bit embarrassed. "Men and women are the same. If men can be possessive, so can we women! Anyway, you're a married man. Keeping your distance from other women at all times is a basic quality of being a husband!"
Daniel chuckled softly. Before he could respond, there was a knock on the door.
It was Ray.
His expression was serious. "Mr. Wilson, something's happened with the White family."
Seeing this, Scarlett quietly stepped aside.
"Speak." Daniel immediately sat up straight.
"News of Mr. White's death leaked early. It's all over the internet now. White Corporation's stock price is plummeting. Some investors are demanding answers on White Corporation's official website, and some radical ones have gone to protest in front of White Corporation's building with a photo of Mr. White."
As Ray spoke, he handed Daniel a tablet. Daniel opened the video on it.
A noisy crowd had gathered downstairs at White Corporation. The man at the front was holding a black and white photo of Tobias, with insulting words written across Tobias's face in blood-red paint.
Daniel looked at the messy, resentment-filled photo, his brow furrowing.
Scarlett saw all this and was shocked. Something flashed through her mind, but she couldn't quite grasp it.
