Chapter 148 If You Don't Say, She Won't Know
Tom felt so wronged, his face falling as he said, "Boss, I just wanted to make Mrs. Wilson feel sorry for you. After all, you got hurt because of Mrs. Wilson. She'd definitely feel bad and guilty about it, and maybe you two would make up. I never expected that misunderstanding to happen in the ICU..."
Daniel laughed coldly again, "Are you trying to take credit?"
Tom waved his hands with a smile, "I wouldn't dare, I wouldn't dare. As long as you transfer me back to work by your side, Boss, I'll be satisfied."
Seeing Tom still dared to joke around, Daniel scoffed.
"My wife is pregnant. Pregnant women shouldn't be scared. Lucky nothing happened, otherwise, if it affected me becoming a father, I'd throw you into the sea!"
Daniel's words were harsh, but his tone and expression told a completely different story.
His emphasis was on "becoming a father," with barely suppressed pride in his voice.
After a moment of shock, Tom immediately said with delight.
"Mrs. Wilson is actually pregnant? That's wonderful!"
"My wife is pregnant, why are you so happy about it?" Daniel's eyes darkened slightly.
Thinking about how he couldn't calm Scarlett down at the ICU entrance earlier, but she calmed down after just a few words from Tom, Daniel narrowed his eyes.
Tom felt Daniel's gaze cutting into him like blades.
Feeling a bit scared, Tom quickly said, "I'm happy for you, Boss. Now that Mrs. Wilson is pregnant, she definitely won't leave you..."
Daniel laughed coldly, "So you're saying my wife would only stay with me thanks to my child?"
Tom fell silent.
Wasn't that the reason? Don't you know that yourself, Daniel?
But Tom didn't dare say it. He quickly shook his head and said worriedly.
"Boss, Wren followed you for so many days, and you let her succeed. You paid such a high price to keep Mrs. Wilson. If Mrs. Wilson finds out about this, will she be angry?"
Wren had been following Daniel for quite some time, and they'd discovered she had advanced pancreatic cancer and didn't have long to live.
But Daniel not only didn't have his bodyguards strengthen security, he deliberately gave Wren an opportunity.
Tom had previously thought Daniel was confident he wouldn't get hurt, but when he heard Daniel was stabbed by Wren, Tom finally understood.
Daniel actually wanted Wren to make a move. Otherwise, how could he get stabbed and just happen to avoid vital organs?
His injury looked serious, but it was actually nothing major. It was basically a ploy to gain sympathy.
This wasn't some crazy pursuer—he was willing to do anything to keep Scarlett.
Tom felt he couldn't compare.
But Daniel stared at Tom, eyes narrowed, and said coldly, "If you don't tell her, she won't know!"
Tom felt a chill and quickly shut his mouth.
Scarlett got Daniel's angiography films and headed to the inpatient building.
When the elevator opened, she bumped into someone.
Scarlett instinctively put her hand on her belly and said, "I'm sorry."
"Sorry."
Unexpectedly, Katya in front of Scarlett also spoke at the same time.
When Scarlett looked up, she saw that the person she'd accidentally bumped into was clearly pregnant.
Katya's belly was already showing, and she also had her hand on her stomach.
Their synchronized movements created a sense of connection, and they both smiled knowingly.
"Girl, you're pregnant too, aren't you?"
Katya spoke first, looking very friendly.
Scarlett nodded, "I'm only three months along, not showing yet. Ma'am, you look like you're five or six months along?"
"Not quite, I'm not even five months yet."
Scarlett's mouth fell open in surprise at Katya's belly, which was already as round as a small watermelon. Then Scarlett looked a bit worried.
Why was her Bunny still so small?
Katya was amused by her expression and said chattily.
"You're clearly young and inexperienced. Don't worry about being thin now—after these first three months, your belly will definitely get bigger. Your body changes every day during pregnancy."
Scarlett nodded blankly, touching her belly with curiosity and anticipation.
"I see, thank you for sharing your experience."
"No problem, I'm in a hurry to get to work. Bye." Katya waved and left.
Scarlett turned to say goodbye, but then saw two people standing a few steps away. The smile on her face gradually froze.
It was Alice and Laura.
Laura was supporting Alice, who wore a loose hospital gown with her belly slightly protruding.
Alice's expression hadn't softened with pregnancy. Her eyes were fixed tightly on Scarlett's belly.
That look made Scarlett feel like a poisonous snake was coiling around her.
Scarlett frowned, instinctively crossing her hands protectively over her belly.
"Scarlett, you're actually pregnant? Congratulations."
In an instant, Alice looked up with a delighted smile, as if she was genuinely happy for Scarlett.
Seeing her, Scarlett's good mood vanished completely.
She didn't want to deal with Alice. She looked away indifferently and turned to enter the elevator.
But Laura and Alice followed right in.
Scarlett frowned and moved away from them, not wanting any contact.
But how could Alice let it go so easily? She asked with a smile, "Scarlett, your belly isn't showing yet. It looks a bit smaller than mine. When the babies are born, your child will have to call mine big brother."
Alice stroked her belly, "Baby, you'll have to play nicely with your little brother or sister in the future."
Alice's words had that familiar disgusting quality. Scarlett felt sick.
Scarlett waved her hand near her nose, "Your words are still so disgusting. Alice, can't you use your brain? Can't you be more creative?"
Alice pretended to be shocked and hurt, "Scarlett, what do you mean? I really want the children to get along well. By the way, Scarlett, does Daniel know you're pregnant?"
Scarlett said coldly, "You're saying all this just to upset me, but is the child in your belly really Daniel's? Do you think you can still get to me? Stop wasting your energy. I'm tired just watching you."
Alice looked aggrieved. Laura, supporting her, frowned at Scarlett.
"Ms. Lewis, your words are too harsh. Alice is being friendly, why are you so aggressive?"
Scarlett's eyes turned cold, "How did you get out of the police station? A criminal who violated defamation laws dares to lecture others about morality here?"
Laura had only been released on bail this morning, and it had taken quite some effort.
Thinking about the suffering she'd endured in the police station, Laura wanted to tear Scarlett and Sarah apart.
But she'd learned her lesson. Scarlett was much harder to deal with than expected. Laura didn't dare act rashly anymore.
Laura gritted her teeth and said nothing more.
But Alice sighed, "Scarlett, I begged Daniel to let Laura go. Don't you think—if Daniel hadn't spoken up, how could the police have allowed Laura's bail?"
Scarlett's heart sank, because she knew it was true.
In Shadow City, if Daniel wanted to keep someone down, that person would have no chance of getting back up.
Seeing Scarlett look down silently, clearly upset, Alice felt satisfied and continued.
"Scarlett, adult matters shouldn't involve the children. The babies can definitely get along well when they're born. Scarlett, don't you want your baby to have a big brother as a playmate?"
Scarlett looked up, her lips curling coldly.
"You're shamelessly trying to attach yourself to me, and you want your child to inherit your shamelessness too?"
Alice's nails dug into her palms, but she smiled.
"I'm not trying to attach myself to you. Scarlett, why don't you go back and ask Daniel if he'd want the baby in your belly to call my child big brother?"
Alice said this with complete confidence and certainty.
She lifted her chin slightly, her eyes full of triumph and provocation.
Scarlett was truly disgusted by Alice.
Thinking about her baby having to call Alice's child big brother in the future, Scarlett couldn't help but frown.
Whose child was Alice really carrying?
