Chapter 134 Daniel is a Fanatical Pursuer
At this moment, even Tom was getting anxious for Daniel.
As his special assistant, Tom felt he could see things crystal clear - Daniel obviously cared about Scarlett and cared deeply about this marriage.
Back when Scarlett still worked in the CEO's office, Tom had walked in several times to deliver documents and caught Daniel secretly watching Scarlett from behind his desk.
Sometimes Daniel would be so focused that he didn't even notice Tom coming in, and that usually cold, handsome face would break into a silly smile.
That's what love looks like.
Tom had thought back then that they must love each other, but who knew that when Daniel and Scarlett said they were getting divorced, they actually went through with it.
Tom had assumed they were just fighting, but they really got divorced.
These past few days, Daniel had become very quiet, and even when he did speak, he was often angry - all because Scarlett was going abroad.
Tom felt that Daniel was too proud. If he needed someone to talk him into going to the airport to win Scarlett back, Tom didn't mind being that person.
"Mr. Daniel Wilson, what misunderstanding between a married couple can't be resolved? There's no major problem between you and Mrs. Scarlett Wilson. Mrs. Scarlett Wilson just minds the Ms. Brown situation. If you explain it properly to Mrs. Scarlett Wilson, she loves you so much, she definitely won't leave."
"Are you done?" Daniel looked at Tom and asked.
Seeing him respond, Tom got excited immediately, nodding his head and continuing to talk non-stop.
"If you really let Mrs. Wilson go abroad, after a month of cold war between husband and wife, even the deepest feelings will turn cold. When Mrs. Wilson comes back then, she'll really just be coming to get the divorce certificate with you."
Daniel nodded, "If you're done, you can leave."
With that, Daniel lowered his head and continued reading the documents in his hand.
Tom fell silent.
Daniel's reaction was way too cold. Was his own persuasion not good enough? Was he, as a special assistant, not trying hard enough, not sincere enough?
Tom wasn't willing to give up. His feet seemed welded to the spot as he spoke again.
"Boss, a man's pride isn't that important right now! You..."
Daniel was probably completely annoyed by Tom. He let out a cold laugh, lifted his eyes and curved his lips at Tom.
"So what? You put aside your male pride and begged your cheating fiancée to come back - did she regret it? Did she get back together with you?"
Tom fell silent.
Tom looked hurt, "Boss, my girlfriend didn't cheat..."
"Right, she just had many backup options."
When Tom came back from abroad all excited to propose, his girlfriend was already preparing wedding invitations with another man.
Even after all that, Tom still prepared a proposal ceremony. His ex-girlfriend never showed up, and Tom got drunk and went crying outside her building.
"She only did it because I was too busy and had no time to spend with her. I missed her birthday, and I wasn't there when her dad had a car accident..."
"She's so great, remember to give a generous gift at her wedding next week."
Daniel sneered coldly. Someone like Tom, such a crazy pursuer, thinking he could change Daniel's mind?
Simply ridiculous.
"Get out! Keep the schedule as planned."
Daniel commanded in a deep voice. Tom's eyes were turning red, feeling both attacked and hurt.
Tom gathered his courage and said, "My ex-girlfriend did wrong, but I'm also responsible, so I don't blame her. Don't worry, Mr. Daniel Wilson, I'll go to her wedding next week to sincerely wish her well, because I still haven't let her go. But since she has a better choice, I'll bless her - that's my heart. But what about Mr. Daniel Wilson's heart? Can you really bear to let Mrs. Scarlett Wilson leave you?"
After speaking, Tom didn't wait for Daniel to get angry and turned to make a quick escape.
However, just as Tom's hand touched the office door, Daniel's cold, deadly voice came from behind.
"Recently, there have been quite a few employees with psychological stress issues. The logistics department is planning to set up a special counseling room. Since you're so good at helping people adjust, go be a counselor. You'll have plenty of time to be a crazy pursuer in the future."
Tom's face fell immediately. He wanted to slap himself twice.
He knew about the counseling room - employees were privately saying it was like the Star Group's neighborhood association?
Daniel was so cruel! He was a top student with dual degrees in finance and investment from a world-class university!
Daniel was totally wasting his talent!
Tom thought bitterly that Daniel better hold back and definitely not chase to the airport.
If Daniel went, he'd be an even crazier pursuer than Tom himself!
Tom left, and Daniel continued looking at the reports in front of him, his expression blank.
But after just a moment, he pulled over a stack of proposals from the side, getting more and more annoyed as he read.
His brows finally couldn't maintain their forced calm. He raised his hand to rub his temples and pushed away all the documents in front of him.
He leaned back in his chair and forcefully loosened his tie.
After a while, he leaned forward again to open a drawer, reaching for the diary at the very bottom.
But just as his fingers touched the diary, he stopped, irritably lifted his foot and kicked the drawer shut again.
Tom said there was no major problem between him and Scarlett, telling him to explain about Alice.
Alice's child wasn't his - hadn't he said that before?
Scarlett knew that too, but did she care?
Scarlett didn't love him, and her attitude about the divorce was very firm - that was the biggest problem.
During this time, hadn't he shown clearly enough that he didn't want a divorce and wanted to keep her?
But she was heartless and simply didn't care.
The little bird had grown up, her wings were strong, and she longed for the world outside.
Daniel didn't think that after trying to keep Scarlett for over a month, going to the airport now would change her mind.
Before, when he misunderstood that she had drugged him to stay in the Wilson family, he could use that as an excuse to keep her trapped in the marriage with a clear conscience.
But now, she was innocent in what happened back then. She wasn't happy in the Wilson family and almost hated him.
She said to let him care for her one last time by letting her go.
He still remembered her expression then - so sorrowful and pleading, so weak.
What else could he do if he didn't let go?
Could he watch her suffocate, watch her wither like a flower before his eyes?
But Tom's words had thrown Daniel's heart into chaos. He'd never been this irritable and panicked before.
Daniel felt that if he really let Scarlett leave today, it would probably be just like Tom said - the next time they met would only be to get the divorce certificate together.
She would no longer be Daniel's wife, and then she could openly be with any man.
Just thinking about that scene made Daniel feel unbearable pain, as if pierced by thousands of arrows, almost driving him mad.
But he hadn't done nothing - he had left a thread of hope for their marriage.
Success or failure would depend on fate.
Thinking this, he suddenly pushed back his chair, stood up abruptly, and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window to light a cigarette.
After about half a cigarette, Daniel came out of his office and ordered in a deep voice.
"Notify the planning department of an additional meeting."
Immediately, the entire secretarial department became busy.
At noon, Daniel went to Taste Sanctuary as originally planned to have lunch with Cole Perry from Orion Global Holdings.
When Daniel arrived at the private room, Cole was already there.
It wasn't their first collaboration, and they were already familiar with each other. Daniel just nodded at Cole, sat down without much small talk, and got down to business.
At the same Taste Sanctuary, Sarah got out of her car at the entrance, checked the time, and called Scarlett.
Scarlett answered quickly, and Sarah spoke apologetically.
"Scarlett, have you left yet? I can't make it back. The business dinner got delayed. I just got here and I'm still waiting for Jenny."
Soon, Scarlett's voice came through.
"Don't worry about it. I've already left. Everything's going smoothly on my end. I'm waiting for your good news. Alright, you focus on your work. I'm hanging up now."
Sarah had just put her phone in her pocket when Jenny arrived. Jenny grabbed Sarah and reminded her again.
"Sarah, remember - Mr. Montes has no other hobbies. He's not into women or money, but he loves alcohol! He really loves drinking. Once he's drunk and happy, everything's negotiable.
Today we don't need to do anything else, just drink with him. Get him drunk, and this role is yours!"
Sarah was still a bit nervous. "Jenny, I may look like I can drink, but my alcohol tolerance is really average."
Jenny patted her. "That's why I'm here. My alcohol tolerance is pretty good. Come on, stop dawdling. Let's go - Mr. Montes might already be here!"
