Chapter 123 Just Couple's Fun
Scarlett barely got any rest that night and even woke up in the middle of the night to feel Elliot's forehead.
The next day, when she woke up, it was already bright outside. Scarlett turned her head.
Elliot beside her was wrapped in the blanket, lying motionless with his back to her.
Scarlett reached out and rubbed Elliot's head.
"The sun's up, we should both get out of bed!"
But Elliot still didn't wake up. Scarlett propped herself up with an amused smile.
"Stop pretending. Get up, and after breakfast I'll take you back..."
Before she could finish, her expression changed.
Elliot's little face was burning hot. Scarlett turned him over and saw his nose covered in bright red blood.
His nosebleed had already soaked through half the pillowcase.
"Elliot, wake up! Daniel!"
Scarlett frantically helped Elliot sit up, grabbed tissues to wipe his nosebleed, and called loudly for Daniel.
Daniel responded and pushed the door, but it was locked from inside.
Scarlett was about to get out of bed to open it when, with a bang, Daniel had already broken through the door.
Seeing Scarlett sitting on the bed looking panicked, holding the unconscious Elliot in her arms, his expression darkened. He stepped forward, wrapped Elliot in a thin blanket, and picked him up, blanket and all.
"Don't panic. Put on something warm before you come down."
Daniel's voice was steady and reassuring.
Scarlett had already run to the doorway, then hurried back to get dressed.
By the time she got downstairs, Daniel had already carried Elliot into the back seat and was on the phone, apparently talking to a doctor.
Scarlett got in the car and held Elliot while Daniel floored the gas pedal and sped off.
At the hospital, Elliot was immediately rushed into the emergency room. Scarlett stared at the closed door, her legs going weak.
Behind her, Daniel's warm, broad chest pressed against her back as he wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, supporting her.
"Scared?"
Daniel's voice was low and gentle. Scarlett made a soft sound of agreement, leaning against him for strength.
She had never seen Elliot have an episode before and didn't expect it to be so frightening.
The whole way there, she had held Elliot and couldn't wake him up. His nosebleed kept flowing, as if it would never stop.
"Elliot will be okay, right?"
Scarlett looked up, very worried.
Daniel helped her sit down in a nearby chair and took out an alcohol wipe to carefully clean the bloodstains on her hands.
"Everyone knows Elliot from the Wilson family is cocky and bossy—what could possibly happen to him?"
Perhaps it was Daniel's joking tone, but Scarlett relaxed a little and said irritably.
"That's no way to talk about your own brother. The most bossy one in the Wilson family is clearly you. Elliot has always been a gentle and sweet kid."
"Whatever you say."
Daniel finished cleaning, threw away the tissue, squeezed Scarlett's hand, and looked up at her.
His eyes were calm, but Scarlett's heart was racing.
It was only then that she realized how intimate their position was. She panicked and tried to pull her hand away, but Daniel suddenly gripped it tighter.
Daniel looked up and asked.
"Why were you crying last night while eating noodles?"
Scarlett's heart raced at his question. She said casually.
"It's nothing. Women are just like that sometimes—we feel like crying for no reason."
Daniel stared at her. "You cried because the noodles reminded you of certain feelings, didn't they?"
Scarlett felt his gaze was substantial, with a penetrating and oppressive force that left nowhere to hide.
She could barely hold on. She tried to pull her hand away and said irritably.
"Elliot is still in the emergency room, and you're talking to me about this. There's nothing..."
She tried to stand up, but Daniel suddenly opened his palm and interlaced his fingers with hers.
"If there's nothing, what are you running from?"
"I'm not running!"
"But you won't even look me in the eye."
Daniel said in a low voice. Scarlett took a deep breath and finally stared straight back at him.
She pressed her pale lips together. "Yes, I do miss that taste—the taste of family from my memories. I got a little sad thinking I might never have it again. That's all."
"The taste of family? Is that really all?" Daniel said coldly.
He hadn't expected that the answer that had kept him tossing and turning all night would end up being just this.
In the end, it was just his own wishful thinking.
Scarlett felt terrible inside. She didn't know what result he wanted from pressing her like this.
Did he want her to tell him that she cried because she loved him, because she was too attached?
She didn't want to be laughed at by him again.
They were already divorced. What was the point of talking about love now?
It would only make her look more pathetic and ridiculous.
"Yes!" Scarlett frowned, her expression now impatient.
Daniel's face darkened. He was about to say something more when messy, hurried footsteps echoed in the corridor.
Blair and Andrew rushed over with two servants.
The servants had only discovered Elliot wasn't home that morning, and the household had been in chaos.
While they were searching for Elliot, Daniel's call came through.
Blair was frantic. She rushed over and glared at Scarlett like an enemy, saying angrily.
"Scarlett, wasn't it enough that you held back my son Daniel? Do you want to harm Elliot too?
In this cold weather, don't you know Elliot's body is already very weak? You made him come find you in the middle of the night—what are you trying to do?"
Scarlett showed no expression as Blair scolded her. She kept her head down and said nothing.
Whatever she said, Blair would blame her for this anyway.
And Scarlett did feel a bit guilty, since Elliot had indeed snuck out in the middle of the night because of her. Now that he was like this, Scarlett felt terrible too.
"Say something!" Blair grew angrier and swung her hand to slap Scarlett.
Daniel blocked it. Blair's hand grazed Daniel's face, knocking off his black mask.
He had put on the mask when getting out of the car. Now the wound on his exposed chin was clearly visible.
Blair was shocked. "What happened to your face? Is that a bite mark? Scarlett!"
Andrew beside her also frowned at Daniel's chin.
"You two really have no sense of propriety!"
Daniel's expression was cold. He calmly put the mask back on and firmly shielded Scarlett behind him, saying coldly.
"Does Mother know why Elliot ran out?"
"How would I know! It must be Scarlett again..."
Before Blair could finish, Daniel interrupted. "Elliot snuck out because he overheard Mother's conversation with Mrs. Davis and found out about my divorce from Scarlett. It has nothing to do with anyone else."
Blair's face turned pale. "So you're saying it's all my fault as his mother?"
Blair was quite angry. Andrew spoke up sternly.
"Enough. What's the point of assigning blame now? Everyone just wait quietly for the doctor's results."
Andrew then said sternly to Daniel: "You too—watch your tone with Blair!"
Seeing this, Scarlett didn't want to stay there anymore.
She said quietly: "I'm going to get some air."
She turned and headed toward the elevator. Daniel turned back and was about to follow when Andrew stopped him.
"There's a limit to how much you should spoil her. Your face represents the Wilson family and the Star Group—can you just let it get injured like that?"
Daniel was unconcerned and said lightly: "Dad, it's just a bit of fun between husband and wife. You don't need to be so serious."
Andrew's face darkened, but Elliot's condition was more important right now. Andrew suppressed his displeasure and asked about Elliot's situation.
When Daniel turned back around, Scarlett had already disappeared from the corridor.
Scarlett went down to the garden. She sat on a bench and placed her hand on her belly.
She wondered if the baby in her belly could help with Elliot's treatment. Scarlett had already decided.
No matter what, when she gave birth abroad, she would have the doctor secretly test for compatibility with Elliot.
If they were a match, it would be good to be prepared.
"Baby, you'd want to help Elliot too, wouldn't you? If you can save Elliot, then my baby will be born a little hero."
"Scarlett? What are you doing sitting here?"
Scarlett was murmuring to her belly when a familiar voice came from nearby.
Scarlett looked up to see Ramon. He wasn't wearing a white coat—just a long dark gray trench coat that made him look refined. His light gold glasses frames reflected a faint shimmer in the sunlight.
This was the first time Scarlett had seen him since learning about the Meza family's proposal four years ago.
She immediately wiped the gentle smile from her face, stood up, and instinctively stepped back toward the side of the bench.
Ramon watched her body language, and the smile at the corners of his lips gradually faded.
