Chapter 119 Daniel Defends Scarlett
"Now that Mr. Wilson is single again, isn't it the same? Mrs. Wilson, my family, the Griffin family, has a daughter who's graduating and coming back this year. If she could date Mr. Wilson..."
"Let's talk about that later, no rush."
Blair's voice rang out leisurely. Daniel's face darkened like water as he strode toward the small reception room.
"How can we not rush? Mr. Wilson is almost thirty, and his ex-wife didn't give him a single child during their two years of marriage!"
In the small parlor, three noble ladies were arranging flowers with Blair. The speaker was Calla Griffin, Byron Reyes's wife.
Before Calla could finish, she casually looked up and saw Daniel standing in the doorway.
Daniel wore a black mask, his expression unclear, which only made him look more intimidating and frightening.
Calla was startled, her finger pressed against a rose thorn, and blood immediately appeared.
Her face turned pale as she smiled awkwardly.
"Mr. Wilson."
Blair turned around, surprised to see Daniel standing there. She quickly put down the hydrangea in her hand, stood up, and said with a smile.
"Daniel, why are you back? I was just discussing your marriage with them. They're all very concerned about you..."
Blair's words were cut off by Daniel.
His eyes were sharp, not moving from Calla, as he said coldly.
"No wonder your husband, Mr. Byron Reyes and Mrs. Calla Reyes, could have eighteen children. I just wonder how many of them Mrs. Calla Reyes actually gave birth to herself."
Byron was promiscuous and careless, with many illegitimate children, while Calla had only given birth to one daughter.
Daniel's words were like a knife to Calla's heart. Her face turned pale.
She opened her mouth, but meeting Daniel's cold gaze, she didn't dare say a word.
Just last month, Byron only had thirteen illegitimate children. How did it become eighteen?
Great, Byron was hiding more illegitimate children from her!
With that thought, Calla grabbed her bag and left in embarrassed anger. She needed to go back and investigate.
Daniel's gaze swept to the other two women.
"Mrs. Davis, no matter how bad my wife is, she's better than your son's wife who made you raise someone else's child, right?"
Anais Bailey's grandson was discovered last year to not be a child of the Davis family at all. Such a scandal was kept tightly under wraps, and the child was sent abroad.
How did Daniel know about this?
Anais's face turned pale. Before she could say anything, Daniel's gaze swept to Joseph Miller's wife, Violet Cooper.
Violet trembled, quickly smiled awkwardly, and said obediently.
"Mr. Wilson, I spoke out of turn. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'll take my leave now."
She grabbed her bag, lowered her head, and quickly left.
Seeing this, Anais followed closely behind.
In less than a minute, only Blair remained in the small parlor, her expression extremely stiff.
Blair clutched her chest, her vision darkening as she glared at Daniel.
"Those were my guests! Daniel, did you come back specifically to upset me?"
Daniel hadn't left her any dignity. How could Blair socialize in noble circles after this?
But Daniel's eyes were cold as he looked at the furious Blair.
"When has mother ever left me any dignity?"
"I never..."
Blair's angry retort was cut off by Daniel's cold voice.
"You should know that a husband and wife's dignity go together! Not only did you not leave me any dignity, you threw the Wilson family's dignity on the ground!"
Daniel's voice was heavy, stern and severe.
Under his angry momentum, Blair felt both angry and hurt, with a hint of shame and guilt.
Blair hadn't expected that even though Daniel was divorcing Scarlett, he would still defend her so strongly!
Blair argued unreasonably: "Aren't you and Scarlett already divorced? Since you're divorced, what's wrong with me saying a few words about her to my friends? Wasn't everything we said true? Was it worth making such a big fuss and driving away all my guests?"
Seeing that Blair still didn't admit her mistake, Daniel could imagine how Blair had treated Scarlett over the past two years.
His expression darkened. "About the Meza family coming to discuss marriage arrangements back then, you said you told Scarlett and she was considering it. Is that true?"
He suddenly brought up something from four years ago. Blair froze, then nervously fidgeted with her fingers.
"Of course that's true. Why would you suddenly..."
"No! You never told Scarlett at all back then. Could it be that mother was also behind me being drugged that night?"
Daniel questioned sternly. He had come back today to get to the bottom of what happened back then.
He hadn't expected to catch Blair and her friends gossiping about Scarlett. He knew Blair had never really liked Scarlett, but he hadn't realized it was to this extent.
"What are you saying, Daniel? You're my son. I'd give you the best of everything. Scarlett had everything she wanted. How could I drug you and help Scarlett? The one who drugged you was obviously Scarlett, that ungrateful person!"
Blair defended herself angrily, frowning.
"Why are you suddenly asking about this again? Did Scarlett say something to you? She's about to get divorced, why is she still causing trouble and trying to drive a wedge between us?"
Daniel stared at her. Blair's dislike of Scarlett was crystal clear.
From this perspective, drugging didn't seem like something Blair would do.
He said in a low voice, "You still haven't answered my question. Why did you lie and say Scarlett knew?"
Blair pursed her lips. "Why else? Your father had already agreed with the Meza family. Scarlett is an ungrateful person who would never obey. If you knew, and Scarlett was still in the dark, wouldn't you break with the family over her?
I said that at the time thinking that if you heard Scarlett was already considering it herself, you might not interfere and let her obediently go to The Meza Mansion. Who knew you'd still have that big fight with your father.
Later, after that embarrassing incident between you two, Mrs. Meza came to our house and said they wouldn't go through with the engagement to Scarlett. That matter had no follow-up, so I never mentioned it to Scarlett again."
Who knows what spell Scarlett cast on Daniel to make him repeatedly oppose her and Andrew for that cheap woman!
Daniel's eyes fixed on Blair. "It better be just that."
Blair frowned, inexplicably feeling a chill.
Daniel said coldly again: "Scarlett and I aren't divorced yet. She's still my wife. If anyone else slanders or belittles my wife, I won't stand by and do nothing. That includes you, mother!"
Blair's face turned pale. "What do you mean? What are you going to do to your own mother? Haven't you defied your elders enough for that woman?"
Daniel had already turned and walked out. A servant came forward to comfort Blair.
Blair was helped to sit on the sofa, her chest heaving, her face dark and pale.
A small figure hiding outside the window shrank back and ran back to his room. It was Elliot.
After leaving Blossom Mansion, Daniel called Ray with instructions.
"Investigate what happened that night four years ago again! Don't miss any detail."
Daniel tapped his fingers on his knee, his eyes lowered. "Focus on the servants who went in and out of Scarlett's room that night, and the servants who took out the trash."
The torn paper packet with drug powder wouldn't have appeared in Scarlett's room's trash can out of nowhere.
Finding the person who administered the drug would bring him closer to finding the real culprit.
He had to figure out who drugged him and what their purpose was.
That evening.
Scarlett lay in bed, opened the music app on her phone, placed it on the nightstand, and was about to go to sleep when Facebook buzzed twice.
Scarlett picked up her phone and saw it was a video from Elliot.
Scarlett had been too busy lately to visit Elliot often, but they contacted each other on Facebook every day.
It was so late and he still wasn't asleep. Who knows what he was up to now.
Scarlett's eyes smiled as she opened Facebook and saw that Elliot had sent a video.
She clicked on it, saw the content, and froze slightly.
