Chapter 96: Does Daniel Still Care About Her?
When Scarlett stepped out of the elevator, her face had regained its composure. The hurt in her heart was raw, but she was glad she hadn't cried.
She was actually quite exhausted. During this period, she'd been busy everywhere, sleeping only four or five hours a day. Especially being pregnant, it was exactly when she should be drowsy.
But she was happy inside, feeling everything was worth it.
Good. Just wait a bit longer and she'd have the full thirty million dollars to pay Daniel back, and then she wouldn't owe the Wilson family anything anymore.
From then on, she could be free and easy, just being herself.
Scarlett took a deep breath, slowly straightening her back even more. She lifted her head with a smile.
But she didn't expect to run right into Alice and Thora.
"Elliot's condition has gotten worse and he's back in the hospital, how can you still smile?" Thora frowned, severely criticizing Scarlett.
Alice pulled Thora back, gently persuading her.
"Mom, don't say that to Scarlett. Scarlett must be worried about Elliot too, otherwise she wouldn't have come to the hospital to visit."
Alice's understanding act made Scarlett sick enough to throw up even with her eyes closed.
Scarlett didn't stop walking and was about to pass by them when Alice grabbed her.
"Scarlett, don't worry too much about Elliot. My baby will be born in a few months, and then it'll definitely match with Elliot successfully and completely cure his illness."
Alice said while sticking out her belly.
Scarlett's gaze fell on Alice's lower abdomen. Whether Alice was arching her back hard or the baby was growing well, there was already a slight curve there.
Scarlett's breathing stalled, her heart seeming to be stabbed.
Thora laughed mockingly, patting Alice. "Silly girl, who knows if she came to see Elliot or to seduce Daniel!"
Thora then said to Scarlett.
"Scarlett, I know you and Elliot have a good relationship. Now Elliot is sick, and his life could be in danger any moment. Only the baby in our Alice's belly can save him - that's fate. If you really care about Elliot, hurry up and divorce Daniel, don't delay Alice and Daniel's engagement."
Scarlett lowered her head, a self-mocking smile on her lips.
The whole world really was hoping for her and Daniel to divorce.
But Alice was the third party - what right did she have to be so righteous in front of her, Scarlett?
Scarlett looked up, smiling lightly. "Engagement? But my husband said he won't get engaged to your daughter."
"How is that possible! Alice is carrying his child, and this child is the hope for saving his brother's life. How could he not marry Alice?" Thora frowned.
Alice stroked her belly. "Scarlett, Daniel only said that because he can't let go of his responsibility to you. He loves the baby. Scarlett, have you forgotten? Daniel even bought a small planet for the baby."
Scarlett suddenly grabbed Alice's wrist.
"Are you sure the baby in your belly is Daniel's? Good, let's go do a paternity test right now."
Alice struggled to pull her hand away in panic.
"Let go! Let go of me, I'm not going!"
Scarlett stared at Alice, raising her eyebrows with a smile. "Didn't you swear the baby was Daniel's? Why are you scared now?"
Alice forcefully broke free from Scarlett.
"I'm not scared, I'm just worried that amniocentesis would be bad for the baby!"
Alice grabbed Thora. "Mom, let's not go crazy with her. Let's hurry upstairs to see Elliot. I'm so worried."
"Right, let's go."
Thora helped Alice, and the two quickly entered the elevator.
Scarlett looked back at Alice again.
Alice's reaction just now was quite agitated.
Could she really be feeling guilty?
But Daniel did care about the baby in Alice's belly. Compared to his attitude toward her own pregnancy, Scarlett felt heartbroken.
Cherish life, stay away from Daniel!
Scarlett repeated this to herself twice and quickly left.
A week later, Scarlett completed her collaboration with Zenith Enterprises Group, and another sum of money was successfully added to her account.
She had just gotten into a taxi after leaving the game company when she received a call from Tyne saying Magnolia had suddenly fainted.
Scarlett immediately had the driver change course and head to The Wilson Mansion.
Scarlett rushed into The Wilson Mansion, but Magnolia was sitting in the courtyard.
"Grandma, why are you sitting here? Where's the doctor?"
Magnolia held Scarlett's hand. "Tell me honestly, have you and Daniel never really reconciled?"
Scarlett froze, then looked carefully at Magnolia's complexion before realizing she'd been tricked by Magnolia.
Scarlett said helplessly, "Grandma."
Magnolia's face turned serious. "I'm old, but I'm not confused and I'm not blind. Look, you're not even wearing your wedding ring anymore."
Scarlett was speechless.
Scarlett thought about the last time she came back to The Wilson Mansion with Daniel. To fool Magnolia, Daniel had personally put the ring on Scarlett's finger.
They had also promised to reconcile at Magnolia's bedside.
But in fact, they had never really reconciled. Some things just can't be hidden.
"Grandma, a forced marriage won't have a good outcome. Daniel and I have both decided to let each other go. We really are getting divorced."
Scarlett bit her lip, held Magnolia's hand, and chose to be honest.
Magnolia's face immediately changed, her bloodless lips trembling, her breathing becoming rapid.
Scarlett was extremely worried, her eyes reddening. "Grandma, I'm sorry. I've disappointed you. You can hit me or scold me, just please don't hurt yourself!"
Scarlett rubbed Magnolia's chest and told Tyne to get medicine.
After Magnolia took two pills and rested for a moment, her breathing wasn't so rapid anymore, and her face wasn't so pale.
But Scarlett was frightened, tears unconsciously streaming down her face.
Scarlett held Magnolia's thin hand, constantly saying.
"Grandma, I'm sorry, I'm sorry."
Scarlett couldn't face Magnolia. Scarlett knew that Magnolia had always hoped she and Daniel could walk through life together hand in hand.
But Scarlett had disappointed Magnolia. Scarlett couldn't hold on anymore.
Scarlett was terrified inside, afraid she'd made Magnolia sick with anger, and even more afraid that Magnolia wouldn't forgive her and wouldn't love her anymore.
But Magnolia hugged Scarlett, who was crying her eyes out, patting her back and saying.
"Child, stop saying sorry. I know you've done your best. If anyone's wrong, it's that bastard Daniel! I'm not angry, and I don't blame our Scarlett."
Magnolia's aged hand patted Scarlett, just like when she was little.
Scarlett leaned on Magnolia's slightly hunched shoulder, tears flowing even more. She choked up, unable to speak.
"Thank you for not blaming me, Grandma."
"Alright, alright, don't cry. Tell me, is it all because of that Alice? Tell me, and I'll stand up for you!"
Magnolia released Scarlett and wiped her tears with her wrinkled hands.
Scarlett tried hard to stop crying and shook her head. "Grandma, it's not because of Alice..."
"Nonsense! How could it not be because of her! It's because she came back that you and Daniel started fighting! I only found out today that at her welcome party, you were bullied so badly you fell in the water! Did that bastard Daniel save Alice?"
Scarlett was stunned. The incident of falling in the water was over a month ago.
She was surprised. "How did Grandma know about the water incident?"
It was Juno who came to The Wilson Mansion today and mentioned this while on the phone with a friend, even mocking how embarrassed Scarlett had been.
To this day, videos of Scarlett's embarrassment that day were still circulating in the socialite group chat.
Magnolia had overheard and forced Juno to give her the video.
After watching the video, Magnolia was furious.
"Never mind how I know. Just tell me, is this why you're divorcing Daniel?"
Scarlett quickly shook her head, smiling bitterly.
"Grandma, really it's not. It's because Daniel and I don't have feelings anymore. You saw it too - Daniel doesn't care about me anymore. That's why when we both fell in the water, he chose to save Alice. Grandma, you don't know how anxious he was."
"Nonsense! Daniel is my own grandson. I know exactly what he thinks and who he cares about! He cares about you! I must prove it to you today!" Magnolia interrupted Scarlett, saying firmly.
Scarlett was at a loss. How could she prove this?
She was confused when Tyne came over again, saying, "Mrs. Magnolia Wilson, Mr. Daniel Wilson is back."
Magnolia immediately stood up, pulled Scarlett and hid her behind a dense bush, instructing her.
"Scarlett, just stay here. No matter what happens, don't come out! I'll prove to you that Daniel definitely cares about you!"
Magnolia let go of Scarlett and left.
Scarlett was a bit confused, but she saw Daniel's tall figure in the distance, already walking quickly this way.
Not having seen him for a while, whether due to the angle or the early winter bleakness of the garden scenery, Daniel in his long coat still stood straight, but his handsome face seemed to have thinned a bit.
