Chapter 92 He Wants to Send Her a Wedding Invitation
Scarlett came out of the restroom and didn't go back to the private room. Instead, she went to catch some air by the artificial rock garden in the courtyard where no one was around.
She looked up at the city's night sky, covered by thick, hazy lights. She couldn't spot a single star after searching for quite a while.
Just as she was getting bored, she heard a voice behind her.
"Scarlett? What are you doing here?"
Scarlett turned around and saw Alice and Blair arm in arm, standing a few steps away like a real mother and daughter.
Scarlett frowned slightly. She had heard Alice and Thora saying they were going back for dinner, which was why she came out for some air.
If she'd known she'd run into them everywhere, Scarlett would have definitely messaged Bruce on Facebook and left on her own.
Scarlett nodded politely at Blair. "I'm having dinner here with friends. We just finished and I was about to leave."
Scarlett started to walk away, but Blair said in a stern voice.
"Stop right there!"
They also blocked her path, so Scarlett had to stop and look at Blair. "Is there something else?"
Blair frowned. "Don't you know any manners? When you see an elder, can't you even address them properly?"
Scarlett found it quite ridiculous. Daniel and Alice were already discussing marriage here, and Blair still wanted her to act like before and let Blair push her around?
"Sorry, how should I address you now?"
"What kind of attitude is that!"
Blair's face was full of anger as she raised her hand to slap Scarlett.
Scarlett grabbed Blair's wrist. "Whatever attitude you have toward me, that's the attitude I'll have toward you. Is that hard to understand?"
Blair looked furious, and Alice stepped forward to hold her back.
"Mrs. Wilson, please calm down. Scarlett, Mrs. Wilson has been worried about Elliot's health lately and isn't feeling well herself. Can you please not deliberately upset her? Mrs. Wilson is an elder after all. I know Scarlett is uncomfortable seeing me with Mrs. Wilson. Scarlett, take out whatever anger you have on me."
Blair pulled her hand back and held Alice's hand, patting it.
"Alice is so thoughtful and sensible, filial and understanding. Only someone like you deserves Daniel and is qualified to be the lady of the Wilson family."
Blair glanced at Scarlett with complete dissatisfaction.
Alice's face turned red with shyness, and she gave Scarlett a smug look.
Scarlett watched coldly and laughed.
"So all that flattering and pleasing only gets her a 'qualified'? Seeing how you two get along like real mother and daughter, I thought she'd at least get a perfect score."
Alice's expression stiffened, and Blair sneered.
"I'm just trying not to let Alice get too proud. Alice has plenty of room for improvement. After she marries into the Wilson family, I'll teach her slowly. At least she's much better than you. I taught you for so many years, and you're still a negative score!"
Scarlett didn't want to argue anymore and nodded. "Yes, yes. May I leave now?"
Her unbothered and indifferent attitude made Blair and Alice even more uncomfortable. Blair frowned.
"Daniel and Alice are getting engaged. Daniel has already invested 300 million dollars in the Brown Group as a wedding gift. I'm here tonight to meet with Alice's parents and discuss the engagement. I don't care why you're here, but I'm warning you—don't cause any trouble!"
From Blair's tone, she clearly suspected Scarlett had deliberately followed them here to sabotage things.
Scarlett lowered her head and gave a self-mocking smile. When she looked up again, her face showed a bright, cheerful smile.
"You've really misunderstood. My friends are still waiting for me in the private room. If you don't believe me, you can follow me and see. I have no interest in ruining other people's weddings, and I sincerely wish you both get what you want tonight."
After saying this, Scarlett started to walk away again, but Alice suddenly grabbed her and asked.
"Scarlett, do you really wish Daniel and me well?"
Scarlett was annoyed to death. Without any hesitation, she smiled and nodded.
"Yes, I wish you well! I hope you two get married soon. Don't forget to send me an invitation."
Although Scarlett wouldn't actually go—she was really tired of being Daniel's wife.
Since Alice wanted it so badly, let Alice marry into the Wilson family. Scarlett wished Alice would soon be trained by Blair into a perfect lady of the house.
Just as Scarlett was thinking this, Alice let go of her and suddenly bit her lip.
"Daniel, why did you come out too?"
Scarlett's spine stiffened slightly. She instinctively turned to look and saw Daniel's tall, elegant figure standing under the corridor not far away.
The light from the hallway fell on Daniel's face, with shifting shadows that blurred his expression.
But Scarlett knew he was staring at her. Her heart suddenly ached sharply, and her neck felt like someone was choking it—she couldn't breathe.
"Excuse me, let me through. I'm leaving."
She said quickly, trying to leave.
But because Alice and Blair were standing at the entrance to the rock garden and hadn't moved, Scarlett couldn't get past.
At that moment, Daniel had already walked over.
"You've been out so long, naturally I was worried and came to find you."
Daniel approached and said this to Blair, then looked at Alice.
"After getting some air, do you still feel uncomfortable?"
Alice looked up at him with a sweet smile.
"I don't feel bad anymore. Does Daniel find pregnant women annoying? Can't even stand the smell of fish or alcohol."
Her eyes were charming. Daniel looked down at her and smiled.
"No. I've already told the waiters to remove the alcohol and seafood so you won't feel uncomfortable again. It's cold outside, let's go back."
Alice nodded obediently. Blair smiled with satisfaction and said to Alice.
"Look at that, my son who never understood romance or how to take care of people has finally figured it out."
"Mrs. Wilson."
Alice's face turned red, and she looked at Scarlett, who had been left aside.
"Daniel, we just ran into Scarlett. Why don't we invite Scarlett to join us?"
Only then did Daniel's gaze turn coldly to Scarlett. Just for a moment, then he looked away, as if he'd merely glanced at an unimportant stranger.
Daniel's voice was like broken ice. "Didn't she just say she was leaving? Let's not delay her. We just need to remember to send her an invitation when the time comes."
Blair immediately took Alice with one hand and pulled Daniel with the other.
"That's right, let's go back quickly. The food will get cold. Alice is pregnant and can't eat cold food. Daniel, tomorrow Alice has a prenatal checkup. Will you come with me to accompany her?"
"Okay, got it."
They walked away talking, leaving Scarlett behind.
She leaned against the rock garden, unknowingly pressing too hard. Her palm was marked deeply by the jagged rocks, and the pain spread through her whole body.
Scarlett suddenly pulled her hand back, took a deep breath, and pulled out her phone. While messaging Bruce on Facebook to say goodbye, she walked toward the exit.
She wanted to leave first.
It was early evening now with all the lights coming on—not easy to get a taxi.
After Scarlett sent the Facebook message, she walked out of the restaurant and looked down at her ride-hailing app to book a car. She bumped right into someone, and Dax's phone fell to the ground.
"Why don't you watch where you're going!" Dax complained first.
Scarlett thought she hadn't been watching and had accidentally bumped into someone, so she instinctively said.
"I'm sorry." She bent down to help pick up the phone, but her arm was suddenly grabbed and pulled hard.
Scarlett frowned and looked up to see a drunk middle-aged man.
"Girl, you broke my phone. Think just saying sorry is enough? No sincerity. At least buy me a drink, right? Come on, come inside with me."
Before Scarlett could react, Dax dragged her a couple of steps.
She struggled hard. "Let go! Or I'll call the police."
"Call what police? Breaking someone's stuff and buying them a drink isn't too much to ask! Even if the police come, it won't help!"
Dax's companions picked up the phone with the cracked screen from the ground. Two or three men pushed forward, trying to force Scarlett toward a nearby private room.
Someone forcefully snatched the phone from Scarlett's hand. Just as she was about to shout, someone reached out to cover her mouth. As Scarlett turned her head, she met a pair of familiar cold, deep eyes.
Daniel stood just a few steps away, watching coldly.
