Chapter 171 Please, Save My Child
Scarlett stared at the screen, emotions churning in her eyes.
"Not answering? It's your husband. Who knows how many more days he'll be your husband though. Maybe he's calling right now to come clean about everything, to introduce you to his ex-fiancée. Just thinking about that scene is pretty entertaining."
Across from her, Alice saw it too. She covered her mouth and laughed.
Seeing Scarlett sitting there frozen, not answering, Alice stood up.
"Are you too scared to pick up? Let me help you out."
Alice reached for the phone.
Scarlett snatched the phone away with one hand and pressed the power button hard. With her other hand, she grabbed the coffee cup from the table and splashed it right at Alice.
Alice screamed. Coffee dripped all over her head and face. She looked like a complete mess.
She frantically grabbed napkins to wipe herself off, glaring viciously at Scarlett.
"Scarlett, have you lost your mind!"
Scarlett had wanted to shut Alice's nasty mouth for a long time.
Scarlett picked up her bag, stood up, and looked down coldly at Alice. "You practically asked for it. I'd be doing you wrong if I didn't throw that coffee on your cheap face."
Alice sneered. "I couldn't bear to see you being deceived, so I kindly told you all this. Don't be ungrateful and bite the hand that feeds you!
If you've got guts, go take it out on Waverly. Scarlett, do you dare?"
Scarlett let out a light scoff. "Thanks so much for your kindness. Don't worry, I'll verify every single thing you said."
With that, Scarlett turned and walked away.
But Alice's mocking laughter came from behind her.
"One more thing, out of the goodness of my heart - your nickname sounds exactly the same as Waverly's ex's nickname."
Seeing Scarlett's back visibly stiffen, Alice knew she'd hit a nerve.
Alice chuckled softly, but the next second the sticky coffee liquid seemed to drip into her eyes, and she couldn't open them.
She cursed.
Scarlett rushed out of the coffee shop. The calm composure she'd been forcing instantly shattered.
She felt like her entire world was collapsing bit by bit, crumbling into pieces she didn't recognize.
In her memories, all those precious, warm, sweet memories of Daniel.
They all turned into sugar-coated blades, slowly torturing her.
She walked faster and faster, as if evil spirits were chasing her.
When she heard the sharp honking of a car, Scarlett suddenly snapped back to reality.
She turned her head. A car had stopped abruptly right in front of her.
Only then did Scarlett realize she'd somehow wandered into the middle of the road.
Her legs went weak and she fell to the ground.
A sharp cramping pain immediately shot through her abdomen.
Scarlett's face changed drastically as she clutched her belly.
Bunny, don't scare me!
Bunny has to be okay!
Inside the car.
"What's going on? Theron, can you drive or not? Did you hit someone?"
Bruce sat in the back seat, still wearing his baseball cap, talking to Theron who was driving.
"Oh man, why isn't she getting up? You really did hit her! I'm going to check."
Bruce tried to pull the door handle but it wouldn't open.
"Theron, I know you're cold, but I didn't think you were this cold. This is too much!"
In the driver's seat, the handsome Theron unbuckled his seatbelt and said expressionlessly.
"I'll go. Don't try to escape."
Theron opened the car door and got out. Walking around to the front of the car, he saw her still sitting on the ground.
She was clutching her abdomen, her long hair falling loose, her shoulders shaking constantly.
Theron's eyes showed no emotion as he said coldly.
"Carrying a bag worth tens of thousands of dollars to scam people - fraud really is the fastest way to make money."
Just then, her weak hand suddenly grabbed tightly onto his suit pants.
"Big appetite too - not just after money but also trying to seduce me?"
Theron lifted his foot, about to shake her off.
She looked up, revealing a delicate face that was pale and covered in tears.
Her expression was pained, her eyes panicked, her forehead and neck covered in cold sweat.
Her hair was soaked with sweat. She didn't look like she was faking it.
Because she looked truly miserable.
"It hurts so much. Please, save my baby."
Scarlett's vision was blurry. She didn't know what was happening to her.
The cramping in her abdomen was getting worse and worse. She didn't even have the strength to stand up.
She could only desperately cling to the person in front of her, hoping he would have some compassion and save her baby.
Theron's gaze fell on Scarlett's hand pressed tightly against her abdomen. He frowned and bent down.
"Take deep breaths. I'll take you to the hospital."
Scarlett was lifted up, hearing Theron's voice in her ear.
His voice was deep and commanding.
He must be someone used to giving orders, because his tone was somewhat similar to Daniel's.
And here she was, still thinking about Daniel. Her heart felt torn and suffocated.
She was so pathetic.
Scarlett bit down hard on her tongue and followed Theron's instructions, taking deep breaths.
Theron had already carried her to the back seat. He opened the door and placed her inside.
Bruce quickly moved over to make room.
"What's wrong with her? Did you really hurt her?"
Bruce asked. Theron settled Scarlett in and instructed him.
"She's having pregnancy complications. Take care of her."
He finished speaking, slammed the door, and went back to the driver's seat.
Bruce was dumbfounded. "What? She's pregnant? Theron, let me drive, you take care of her. I can't do this. I don't know how to take care of a pregnant woman! I'm still saving my precious first time for Scarlett."
Bruce kept protesting. Just then, Scarlett, who had been looking down, lifted her head and leaned back against the seat, revealing her pale face.
"Scarlett?"
Bruce's eyes widened in disbelief. He became completely flustered.
"You, you, what's going on? How are you pregnant? No, no, that's not what I meant."
Bruce was completely incoherent.
He didn't know whether he should ask Scarlett what happened and where it hurt.
Or whether he should ask if the baby was Daniel's, the guy from the amusement park.
Or maybe he should first mourn for a few minutes for his crush that never started and might already be over.
Scarlett's abdominal pain hadn't subsided. All her senses were focused on worrying about the baby, so naturally she didn't answer Bruce.
Bruce anxiously pushed Theron. "Theron, what do we do? She looks like she's in so much pain!"
"First help her keep doing deep breaths, wipe her sweat, and if she can drink, give her some hot water."
"Then drive faster! What terrible driving!"
Bruce urged.
He pulled out tissues to wipe Scarlett's sweat and said soothingly.
"Scarlett, relax. Follow me - breathe in, breathe out..."
There was a hospital nearby, and Scarlett was quickly taken to the emergency room.
Outside the door, Bruce paced back and forth anxiously.
Theron watched him looking so nervous and worried, raised an eyebrow, and asked.
"Is she the girl you mentioned wanting to bring home? The one who saved Ingrid at the bar?"
A few days ago, Bruce had bragged at a family dinner about having a girl he liked, saying maybe he could bring her home next time.
At the police station last time, Bruce said the person he liked had saved Ingrid. That night Theron had only seen a figure from behind.
So it was her.
Bruce nodded dejectedly.
Theron patted his shoulder. "You're really something, becoming a dad at twenty?"
"Theron, what are you talking about! How could it be my child!"
Hearing this, Theron's expression relaxed slightly, and he said.
"Then you're even more impressive, aspiring to be a stepfather at twenty."
Bruce fell silent.
Just then, a doctor came out and called out.
"Who is the pregnant woman's husband?"
The doctor's gaze swept over Bruce and Theron, quickly locking onto Theron, who was older and more composed.
Just as the doctor was about to speak, Theron pushed Bruce forward.
"He is!"
The doctor immediately focused on Bruce and instructed.
"Come with me."
Bruce shoved the women's handbag he was holding into Theron's hands and carefully followed the doctor into the emergency room.
Just then, a phone started ringing inside the handbag, ringing non-stop.
Theron had no choice but to open the bag and take out the phone.
The fake husband had just gone in, and now the real husband was calling.
