Chapter 111 Wife and Child Lost
"James, I'll give you a surprise tomorrow!"
"James, why did you do this? We were so close."
James finally understood what surprise Gloria meant that day.
She had burst into his office excitedly to tell him about her pregnancy, and she happened to see Maria.
After learning that Maria was pregnant with his child, she hid her own pregnancy.
That night she wanted to abort the baby, but in the end she kept it. She wanted to have the child.
James fell to his knees, his fingers trembling wildly as he clutched the paper.
But he had destroyed it all himself!
What was he doing when she was suffering from morning sickness while pregnant?
He accused her of having an affair with Caspian!
Trapped her in the bathtub all night!
Even wanted to force her to get an ultrasound and have her do IVF to get pregnant with his child!
For the sake of the company and his image, he disappointed her again and again.
The moment he saw the camera, he thought it was a livestream and chose to save Maria.
He had wanted so badly to have a child with Gloria. The child came, but he destroyed it with his own hands!
Water drops rolled onto the paper one by one—impossible to tell if they were James's tears or rainwater.
James threw his head back and laughed. That laughter looked especially sinister and terrifying in the lightning.
Mabel knew she had caused a huge disaster and didn't dare approach James to comfort him.
Hannah, who had just finished with Henry, came downstairs belatedly. She had missed quite a show.
She only saw the mess everywhere.
The film crew in the rain, the director, the destroyed camera, shattered glass door fragments, and that shocking pool of blood by the pool.
And James laughing in the rain.
He was clearly laughing, but it sounded like crying, so heartbroken.
Even the usually bold Mabel was now shrinking to the side without saying a word.
Maria was soaking wet and didn't dare move an inch.
The whole scene was very eerie, like a dark cloud hanging over everyone's head.
Hannah, relying on James's affection for her since childhood, spoke softly: "James, stop laughing. It's creepy. What happened?"
It would have been better if she hadn't spoken. The moment she did, James suddenly stood up, his eyes bloodshot as he looked at her.
Hannah was so scared she took half a step back.
"James."
James walked toward her step by step with the paper, a strong murderous aura surrounding him. "Hannah, Mom, I've lost my wife and child. Is this the result you wanted?"
Too many emotions swirled in his chest.
Regret, anger, and pain intertwined.
In the end, they all turned into worry for Gloria, and only then did he belatedly chase after her.
Everyone present was stunned. They seemed to have just witnessed a dramatic scene.
What exactly happened?
The wife James mentioned didn't seem to be Maria, but Gloria.
If that was true, why didn't he save Gloria? And why did he go along with Maria's actions? And Gloria was carried away by Caspian! Mabel called Maria her daughter-in-law.
Outsiders watched but didn't fully understand. It seemed exciting, but they knew nothing when asked.
Which of these four people were actually couples?
After James left, the frightened Mabel came to her senses and helped Maria up. "Are you okay?"
Maria trembled all over. "I'm, I'm fine."
"You're still pregnant. Go to the hospital and get checked."
At the mention of the child, Mabel instinctively looked again at the pool of blood Gloria had left behind.
She was scared and panicked.
She knew this had become a big deal and didn't know how it would end.
But now that the damage was done, she couldn't let Maria lose the baby too.
No matter what happened to Gloria today, James would definitely not let Maria off!
Maria wasn't stupid either. After following Mabel inside, she knelt down where no one could see.
"Mrs. Williams, save me, please, you're the only one who can save me now! James will kill me."
Maria raised her hand to show the cigarette burn marks. "Mr. Williams, look, these are what James left. This time with Gloria's accident, he'll definitely kill me!"
Before, when she just slightly provoked Gloria, he was so furious. This time he definitely wouldn't let her off.
Just thinking about it made Maria tremble all over. This was her only way out.
"Mom, for the sake of your grandchild I'm carrying, please help me!"
Hannah crouched on the ground looking at the pool of blood. She seemed to have a premonition and asked the cameraman: "This is Gloria's blood, isn't it?"
The other person was also scared silly. Thinking of Joseph's warning just now, he didn't dare talk nonsense.
His guilty eyes let Hannah guess the truth—it was Gloria's.
Combined with James's words "lost my wife and child," Hannah realized she had caused a huge disaster.
She had been tipping off Maria all along. The announcement day was her doing.
But she didn't know Gloria was pregnant. She just wanted to help Maria take Gloria down a peg. She never meant for it to turn out like this.
Thinking of the way James looked at her, Hannah knew James would make her pay.
She had already been having a rough time lately. James had taken back her credit card, leaving her broke.
Hannah rushed upstairs, bringing the cold air with her into Henry's room.
Henry had just showered and was wrapped in a towel, his chest covered with water drops. He casually asked: "What happened downstairs?"
"No time to explain. Henry, you need to come with me now."
"Leave? I still have work."
"Forget about work! This show probably won't continue filming. Come abroad with me for a while."
Henry had just glanced at the situation downstairs. Though he didn't know what happened, it didn't look good.
Hannah had James backing her, so he didn't dare offend her easily. He said patiently: "If I break the contract, I'll have to pay. I..."
"I'll pay for you. If we don't leave now, I'm dead."
"Okay, I can go with you, but I don't have much money. We need money to leave, right?"
"I have lots of jewelry. I can sell it for at least tens of millions of dollars, enough to cover our expenses for this period."
She'd come back after James calmed down. James had always doted on her since childhood.
In the pouring rain, everyone had different thoughts.
James ran frantically to the hospital. At the entrance of the private hospital, two rows of bodyguards in black stood in neat lines.
A tall, sturdy man with a mask on his face, surrounded by an aura of death, completely different from ordinary bodyguards.
He held a black electric baton in his right hand. His cold, stern voice rang out: "Mr. Williams, please stop!"
James's eyes were bloodshot. "Get out of my way! I need to see my wife!"
The masked man said coldly: "That's not necessary. Mr. Rivers has instructed that in two days, at 8 AM, Mr. Williams should be at the courthouse on time to receive the divorce decree. From now on, Ms. Mitchell and you have nothing to do with each other."
