Chapter 88 88
Brooke was done eating the content in her mouth. She was facing Nathan, giving him her full attention. “Mr Leo, you have my undivided attention. Carry on.” She suggested it to him.
She then picked up her stake next and took a bite out of it. This was supposed to be a pleasant dinner for her as she is having her favorite dishes. But for some reason, Nathan's presence is making her enjoy her meal less. Plus the fact that he is pretending to be a patient just to see her.
Nathan squinted his face and put a hand on his chest. His eyes grew soft as he spoke. "I feel pain in this particular area. I am sure it is my heart."
"Me Leo, you are skipping the proper procedure to be sure of that. You should have seen a cardiologist first. You are jumping into conclusion. So far as I know, there is nothing wrong with your heart that might need surgery. Which is my expertise." Brooke explained professionally.
She glanced sideways. She could still see some of her colleagues gossiping about what was going on in her office.
"But doctor, I only need your expertise on this. I don't need any other doctor to see me." Nathan said. "My heart is broken and only you can mend it." He added, still tapping on his chest.
Brooke could not believe what she just heard Nathan said. She never thought he was capable of such a drama.
She took another bite of her stake. She wiped her mouth before responding to Nathan. He then served them the champagne and handed Brooke a glass. She accepted and took a sip.
"You see, Mr Leo. I am a doctor, not a love expert. I cannot mend a broken heart. I can only treat your heart when it is failing. I cannot mend it with desire." Brooke calmly explained.
"The chest pain you are experiencing has to be from an emotional street. I am not a God, I can't fix that. Neither can a doctor like myself help you in any way."
"What you are witnessing must be from a heartbreak. I will advise you to accept your faith and move on. Probably the person that your heart is broken because of, is not willing to fix it by giving you what you want." Brooke continued.
"What is going to heal your chest pain, Mr Leo is acceptance. Accept reality and it will gradually heal. Trust me, I have been there. But time heals wounds." She ended and went back to her meal.
Nathan on the other hand remained quiet. He stopped eating and leaned back on the chair he was sitting on. He watched Brooke continue eating as if she was not the same person that just gave him an indirect message.
Her words kept surprising him. Since yesterday, she kept saying things that he would have to remain quiet to study her words.
She continued to eat without stopping. When she was done, she had her dessert as well. Only then did she look up at Nathan that was still watching her in silence.
She sighed after cleaning her mouth with a napkin. "Thank you for the meal. I appreciate it. But I would prefer you not pulling something like this again. I might not take it as well as I take it now." She warned.
Nathan finally let out a breath. He robbed his face and said, "you are welcome, Bee." He forced a smile. "I actually got what I wanted."
"And what is that?" Brooke asked.
"To have dinner with you. That was my request yesterday, remember? To go out for dinner?" Nathan said. "But you said you would be busy. So I brought dinner to you."
He returned his gaze to her and added. "I am glad I did because it was all worth it. At least I got to see you again before I leave for Silverbrook tomorrow."
"I will wait for you to finish whatever you have to do in the hospital. After that, we can go and get Liam." Nathan said.
Brooke nodded. She was actually done with the day's work. All she needs to do now is to pick up her things and leave. She did just that and the two stepped out of her office together.
They were still getting side eyes from people on the same floor as Brooke. It was clear that Nathan is not a patient but Brooke entertained him anyway. She ignored the looks and creepy smiles coming her way. All she did was walk a bit faster and left Nathan behind.
Brooke walked into the driveway of the parking lot at her floor. She went and stood where there was less crowd to avoid more gaze and side talks.
Nathan soon got to the parking lot as well. When he sighted where Brooke was standing, he decided to call the driver to meet them there.
When he was done with the call, he began to walk to her. Just then, he noticed a motorbike heading in Brooke's direction.
It took seconds for Nathan to conclude that the motorbike was not just a passerby. Rather, he advanced towards Brooke. He noticed the bike speeding up and still aiming in her direction.
"What the- Bee..." Nathan began to shout, trying to get Brooke's attention. But she didn't turn to him. "Bee... Bee, get out of the way." He continued to call but she did not.
She only turned to his direction to see why he was screaming at her. Before she could completely turn to him, she felt him pulling her with force to the side.
The motorbike hit Nathan instead. He hit his head and rolled down multiple times before he finally stopped. The motorbike was quick to flee from the parking lot.
When Brooke realized what had happened, she got up screaming and ran to Nathan, who was laying on the floor, face down.
"Nathan!" She called out as she ran to him. Her heart beat faster at the thought of the worst scenario. Everything happened so quickly, like in a flBee.
"Oh my goodness..... Please please be alright." She cried in a shaky voice as she rushed to him.
