Chapter 82 82
Robert looked up from the phone. His eyes are also watery. “This is all real, right? I really do have a grandson.”
Brooke nodded. "Yes, Uncle. I only found out I was pregnant after I left Silverbrook." She confirmed. "I am sorry, uncle-"
"You have nothing to be sorry about, my dear." Robert interrupted. "This is wonderful news."
"You need to meet Liam. He is a wonderful boy. A well behaved boy and absolutely lovely." Marise began complimenting their grandson. She went on telling her husband more about Liam. The little time she spent with him, she already misses him.
Robert turned to Brooke. "My dear child, when can I be discharged?" He asked. "I want to meet my grandson as soon as possible."
Brooke gave a light chuckle. "Brooke as soon as you pass gas or belch. And you can get out of bed with little or no support." She explained.
"I want to see my grandson as soon as possible." Robert repeated again. "I want to hug him. Hold him and give him multiple kisses. I want to practice walking again. Let's try again. The sooner I walk, the sooner I go see him." He announced, stretching his hand out for support to get up.
Everyone in the room felt overwhelmed. How suddenly Robert became desperate to leave the hospital. All because of his grandson.
Marise and Rose supported him off the bed. "Bee, you are a joy to be around. You are a blessing in our lives. I never had a doubt about that." Robert said after getting up. "You first gave me a new heart and now a grandson? Now you give me more reason to keep going. Thank you, Bee."
The three people smiled with teary eyes at Robert's heartfelt words.
"Did you get it?" Nathan asked.
"No but almost." Liam said, he stretched his hand out. "almost.... Yay! I got it." He celebrated. Immediately, he took a bite out of the apple he just plugged from the three. They have been doing that for a while now.
"Mmmm.... This one is definitely the sweetest, daddy. Have a bite." Liam said, handing down the apple to his dad. Nathan is sitting on his father's shoulder as they went about in an apple farm they visited.
It was a recommendation from the hotel driver. He told Nathan where he can spend quality time together with his son. It is just outside Emberwood town.
It turned out the driver was right. They have been at the apple farm for a while now and are having a great time. Maybe they have picked up too many apples already. But as for Nathan, he just wanted to have a great time with his son. After that, they can give the apples out.
"Daddy, see another big one up there." Liam announced, pointing at another apple at a higher side of the tree. "It looks really big and I think it might be the sweetest one."
Nathan wondered why Liam wouldn't ask to get the ones that are closer and easy to reach. But at the same time, he was enjoying the way they were having a good time together.
Nathan turned to look at the tour guy. He was also mesmerized by the interest of the boy. He held two full baskets of apples for them. They are all the apples that Liam has plucked.
"Ok, son.". Nathan said and walked closer to the direction Liam was pointing. They somehow managed to get it after trying for a while because it was a bit high.
After their adventure at the apple farm, they went to a restaurant on the farm to have lunch. In the restaurant, they ordered an apple pie. Almost all their menu contained apples in the recipes.
"Hmm....Daddy, I love apples." Liam said after taking a bite of his pie slice. "Mummy likes apples too. She would love this." He added.
Nathan took another picture of Liam taking a bite of his pie and he forwarded it to Brooke. He has been doing that since the farm. He wanted her to know what they have been up to all day.
Brooke did not reply to any of his messages though. He didn't bother because he knows she must be busy at the hospital. She will get to see them later on.
After sending the pictures, he turned his attention back to his son. He noticed Liam was looking at another table. There is a family of four there, having lunch as well. They were all smiles and chatting amongst themselves.
Liam turned his attention back to his almost empty plate. He looked down at the plate, looking somewhat worried.
"What is wrong, son? You want more pie?" Nathan asked, pointing at Liam's plate.
Liam was still quiet for a few more seconds before he finally spoke. "Daddy, why are you and mommy not together? Why are we not all together? Is that not how a family leaves?"
Nathan was taken aback by Liam's question. He turned to the direction that Liam was looking earlier before he threw his questions. He saw it was a family and they looked happy as they ate together. He felt a pang on his chest, realizing the reason for his question.
Nathan leaned back in his seat, feeling weak all together. He let out a breath and brushed his hair. "Son, I am sorry you have to go through this but it is all my fault."
"I made a mistake in the past. That was before you were born. I hurt your mommy's feelings so bad." Nathan said, with regret.
Nathan could clearly see the disappointment in Liam's face. His lips turned downwards as his eyes became hooded. "But why, daddy? Why did you hurt mommy? Don't you love her?" He asked.
"Liam, son..there are things that even if I explain to you, you wouldn't understand. But all that happened was my fault. I hurt your mommy so much." Nathan continued to explain.
"I didn't realize my mistake on time, until your mommy was gone. I am sorry. It is my fault. That is why I am here now. I want to try and make things right."
Liam was not comprehending everything his father was saying. But he understands that his mommy is angry at daddy. That is why the three of them were not together.
"Does that mean you won't be together?" Liam asked, sadly.
