Chapter 48 48
The people present watched and aided her as she went ahead with her job expertly. She is the great chief surgeon of Emberwood hospital. She cut through the chest bone.
The famous doctor has back to back major operations she did in a row. She became famous in just two years due to her success rate in heart surgery.
"Scalpel." A woman in a green scrub spoke. She has a surgical loupe on her eyes and she narrows her eyes at the unconscious patient in the theater room.
She cut through the skin without hesitation and with a steady hand. One of her assistants immediately cleaned the open wound to give her a clear view of what she was doing.
Earlier, she successfully removed a patient's damaged lung tissue. And now for her second surgery. She is performing an open heart surgery on a patient with balloon-like bulges that occur in his aorta.
It was a life threatening situation for the patient that had to be done immediately.
The patient was hooked to a machine that is acting as the temporary heart, until the operation is over. While the doctor went ahead to do her job.
The doctor inserted a Dacron graft tube. She replaced the fractured aorta. She continued to stitch the new tube, tightening the aortic valve that was loose. Next, she sewed together the elastic wall blood vessels.
It took another hour to get all the inner stitches to get done by the same doctor. After that, the team in the theater room shocked the heart to awaken it.
The heat was tested and observed for some time. When the doctor made sure everything was okay, they began to close up the patient's chest.
"Another successful surgery in a row. Great job, Doctor Bee." One of the assisting doctors said.
"Another life has been saved by you, Doctor Bee. We are so proud of you." Another doctor spoke.
The new hospital chief surgeon was none other than Brooke Turner. She is addressed as Doctor Bee by all.
"Thank you. Weldon to us all. We did a great job." Brooke said with a smile. "I have been standing for quite some time now. I need to get some sleep." She announced before leaving the theater room.
She left the room and came in contact with the patient's relatives. They were waiting and hoping for good news. As soon as they saw Brooke, they rushed to her. She let them know that the operation was a success. All that was needed from then on is time for him to heal.
The family rejoiced and extended their gratitude to Brooke.
"Thank you doctor for saving my daddy. You are a hero." The patient's daughter said to her.
Brooke smiled. She leaned to the little girl and said. "I am glad I could help. You take care of your daddy until he recovers, okay?"
The little nodded with a smile.
Brooke left the patient's family. She walked towards her office. As she went, other workers of the hospital kept praising her for another successful surgery in a row. She thanked them as she walked by.
Soon she got to her office. A man was already in the office waiting for her with a bouquet in his hand.
"Another successful surgery taking you up the rank of the best doctors in town. This will also make this hospital more famous for heart patients." Ryan said with a smile. He stretched out his hands, offering Brooke a hug.
Brooke chuckled. "Thank you." She said as she embraced him briefly.
Brooke has been through a lot. She was pregnant and had to defer a semester because of that. When she returned, she had her father to help her to get into an accelerated program for a medical degree.
Her mother helped in caring for the baby, while she studied day and night. She also got help from her father, who is already an expert on heart surgery. Not only him, but she also got help from another doctor, Doctor Patel. Doctor Patel was an expert on thoracic surgery.
After eight years of non-stop hard work. Brooke specialized in thoracic surgery, esophagus, lung cancer and chest walls. Also, her scope extended to heart valves, mediastinum tumors, abnormalities in great vessels and diaphragm diseases.
"Thank you, Ryan." Brooke said after settling in her seat. "Thanks for the flowers too."
"You are welcome." Ryan answered. He also settled in a chair on the other side of the table.
"What brings you here today? I thought you were leaving for Europe." Brooke asked.
"Yes, I am. I decided to leave Silverbrook early so that I can fly up here. I will be leaving for a month and half. So I decided to have dinner with you and Liam before I leave." Ryan explained.
"A month and a half. Busy Mr CEO. Your business is really growing. It shows you are doing a good job as the CEO of MedCare." Brooke praised. "Now you are expanding further to another continent. That is just amazing."
Ryan was made the CEO of his family business, three years ago. Since then, he has been trying to expand the business to more than what it is. Now, he is expanding it to a different continent, which needs a lot of work and dedication.
All this makes Ryan really busy. But he never fails to create time for Brooke and her son, Liam. He always finds time to come and visit them once in a while.
"About dinner, I am not sure it's a good idea for me to go out now. I had a double shift and I really needed to rest." Brooke explained. "But we can have dinner at home if that is ok."
"It's fine by me." Ryan assured her. "I missed Liam so much and I have something for him."
"What is it?" Brooke asked, curiously.
"Not so fast, Doctor Bee." Ryan teased with a smirk. "You will see."
Soon, the two left the hospital and headed to Turners ' home. Ryan insisted on driving Brooke in his car. She then had to ask her driver to follow them behind.
