Chapter 29 29
Nathan had dark circles under his eyes, his face was unshaved and his hair looked messy. He paid no attention to Matt, who walked in. He just continued signing the documents in front of him.
"Nathan, what is wrong with you? Why are you trying to punish yourself? Do you plan on killing yourself?" Matt asked in a worried tone. He came to check on Nathan, who had been avoiding him and his calls.
"Keren or Georgie is behind bars. She is already getting what she deserves. Her father, Evan is also facing his own hell on earth. He will probably lose all his money soon. So why are you still like this?" Matt pointed out.
When Nathan was done with what he was doing, he let out a breath and ran his fingers through his hair in frustration.
"Matt, I don't know what to do. After all that happened, I don't know how I will face my parents." He shook his head. He opened his mouth and closed it, thinking of how to say the next line.
"And Brooke. What am I supposed to tell Brooke? All the while, Georgina was the person that kept pushing her. I realized it was after Georgina returned the last time that Brooke and I fought a lot. It was Georgina that provoked her."
"How could I not see it all?" Nathan gave a dry laugh before he continued.
"You know, if I didn't bring Georgina back to Silverbrook, things might have been different. I mean between Brooke and I."
"Maybe my parents wouldn't have forced me into marrying her. Maybe Brooke and I would have been together willingly and we would still be together. Happily." He added.
"But no. I brought that manipulative woman back to this town. I caused my parents to fight and Brooke to feel very insecure. I am a bad person-"
"Nathan please." Matt interrupted. "Brooke loves you so much. Talk to her. I believe she will understand and forgive you. As for your parents, it doesn't change the fact that they forced you into marriage when you were not ready for it. You didn't have a chance to make your own choice or decision."
"Even though your dad chose a very good one for you."
Nathan shook his head. He rubbed his temples and briefly closed his eyes.
"Although, I would like to know something. What exactly are you looking for? I mean with Brooke?" Matt continued.
"Do you want her to forgive you for how things turned out because of Keren-I mean, Georgina? Or are you looking for something else?"
Nathan looked at him blankly.
"I mean, is your feeling connected to you finding out the real Georgina? Or do you want something more from Brooke? Maybe like another chance with her?" Matt asked further.
Nathan groaned and grabbed a fist full of his hair and pulled it. It was hard for him to answer that question at that very moment.
Matt shook his head.
"You are going for a business trip tomorrow, right? That should be a chance for you to think about it. Think about what you actually want. When you return, you can take action on whatever decision you make." Matt advised.
"Then and only then you should speak to Brooke. Don't think anything will be hard. Brooke will always be Brooke." Matt put a finger on his chest. "She always has a place for you in here."
The mention of Brooke reminded Nathan that Brooke must be back from her vacation with her family. But he didn't have the courage to go and see her. Matt's advice is probably a good one. Maybe that is what he will do.
Besides, he will return on Brooke's birthday. That would be the perfect time to go to her.
Nathan started thinking how he will feel when he sees Brooke's parents. How he brought a crazy person into their lives, especially their daughter's life. How Georgina made Brooke paranoid for so long.
'What exactly do I want from Brooke?' Nathan thought to himself.
He remembered how he told her he wasn't interested in the marriage and how he wanted her out of his life. But then with her gone, he felt totally empty. Nothing was making sense around him after she left.
The fact that Brooke did not put up a fight or refuse the divorce is still disturbing. She also went completely silent. That left a really strange feeling in his gut that he still has.
"So, what do you think?" Matt asked. His voice brought Nathan out of his trail of thoughts.
"I think you are right. I need to clear my head first. When I return from my business trip, then I can go talk to Brooke." Nathan answered, agreeing with Matt's advice.
"All the best." Matt said.
That same day, Nathan finally returned home. He was leaving for his business trip the next day so he came to prepare.
The next morning, he was out of the room and was about to leave the house when Mrs. Scooter approached him at the exit.
"Sir, a package arrived for you two days ago." She said as she walked to him. There was a small gift bag in her hand as she stretched it out to him. The strange thing was that she had a smile on her face.
"What is it?" Nathan asked, looking at the gift bag.
"I think it is a gift."
"From where?" Nathan asked as he accepted the bag.
"It's a gift from the missus." Mrs. Scooter said.
"Gift from Bee?" Nathan said in a low voice. He was totally shocked.
He accepted the bag with a smile. He thanked Mrs. Scooter before walking out of the house.
'Perhaps there is hope. Maybe I still have a chance. What was broken could be fixed.' Nathan thought as he got into the vehicle that would drive him to the airport.
He looked into the gift bag. There was a letter attached to the bag. He reached for the letter and opened it and read through.
It reads…
