Chapter 120
A thunderclap seemed to explode in my mind, scattering my thoughts into chaos.
I turned to look at Leo beside me, my throat blocked as if by something—I couldn't get a single word out.
A dark shadow settled over Leo's face.
He denied it coldly. "You guessed wrong. I'm not Leopold."
But Ethan didn't believe him, staring at him with piercing eyes.
"If you're not using Barry's identity, then how do you explain why you and Barry can never appear at the same time?"
I stared hard at Leo, trying to detect any crack in his expression.
But Leo's face showed no change—not even a trace of guilt.
"Why should I explain anything to you?"
He looked at Ethan, his tone tinged with disdain.
"You're the one making accusations, so the burden of proof is on you. If you have evidence, bring it out. If not, stop spreading lies!"
Ethan wasn't intimidated.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, saying calmly, "What I just said is evidence. But since you won't admit it, it's your turn to explain yourself."
My breathing grew heavy.
Ethan's reasoning had been extremely sound.
I'd seen the assistant who appeared with Teddy before. At the time, I thought he looked familiar—he must have been Barry.
But every time he saw me, he cleverly avoided me.
So even now, I'd never gotten a clear look at his face.
All those fragments of doubt I'd vaguely felt now exploded in my mind all at once.
Leopold was cold and proud by nature, never one to chat casually with others.
Yet he'd approached Leo multiple times to discuss me.
I hadn't suspected anything before, but thinking about it now—it really wasn't like something Leopold would do.
If he was Leo, everything would make much more sense.
At this thought, a humiliating sense of being played filled my heart.
Just as I was about to ask him directly, the private room door swung open.
The next second, two people walked in.
When I saw their faces clearly, I froze completely.
They weren't strangers—they were Leopold and his assistant Barry.
My rapidly spinning thoughts ground to an instant halt.
Just as Ethan had said, Barry really did look ninety percent like Leo.
If I hadn't seen Barry and known they were two different people, I might have mistaken them.
But how could they appear here together?
Hadn't Ethan said Barry was at the Percy Group Building and Leopold wasn't?
Their appearing together proved Ethan's investigation was wrong.
So Leopold and Leo weren't the same person?
"Leopold, what are you doing here?"
Ethan looked more shocked than me.
Leopold glanced at me, then strolled leisurely to the table with a half-smile.
"I just came to see who was following me from the shadows. Didn't expect to run into you... all."
His deliberate pause made my heartbeat irregular.
Was he suspecting again that Ethan and I had joined forces against him?
"Since everyone knows each other, I won't beat around the bush. Mr. Guise has been watching me for days. What exactly do you want to know?"
Before we could speak, Leopold pulled out the chair in front of him and sat down, then casually propped his right leg over his left.
I froze. Leopold's posture was usually meticulous—either both legs naturally apart on the floor or properly crossed. He'd never made such a casual, almost rough gesture.
He'd never sat like this before.
Leo suddenly coughed.
I looked down at him. "What's wrong?"
Leo waved it off. "Nothing. Just went down the wrong way."
When I looked back at Leopold, he'd already lowered his leg and was leaning back lazily.
"Why so quiet? Don't tell me you're plotting another escape plan?"
Hearing Leopold's careless question, I pushed down my doubts.
This was definitely something Leopold would say.
No matter how aboveboard things were between Ethan and me, in his eyes it always came back to "escape."
"You're misunderstanding. Ethan and I are just meeting normally. There's no other purpose."
"Is that so?" Leopold's gaze swept over Leo. "Then why do you both look so guilty?"
I didn't want to dwell on this topic. Instead, I pointed at Barry. "We're not guilty. We're just curious why your assistant looks so much like Leo."
"And Leo has no traces of living in Silverlight City before, like he just appeared out of nowhere."
"Plus, you've contacted Leo behind my back twice. All of this is very suspicious."
I didn't want to worsen the friction between Ethan and Leopold, so I voiced the suspicion myself.
After hearing this, Leopold's expression stiffened slightly.
"You're saying I deliberately planted Leo by your side?"
I didn't deny it.
Ethan spoke bluntly. "We're not just suspecting you planted someone by Cindy's side. We think Leopold assumed someone else's identity to stay near her."
As soon as his words fell, the room went silent.
I hadn't expected Ethan to be so direct. I felt somewhat worried.
But before I could speak, Leo did.
"Didn't you just say you checked Leopold's records and said he wasn't at the company, but Barry was?"
"But now they're both here. Clearly, your investigation and conclusions were baseless."
Ethan quickly countered, "It's not that my investigation was wrong. Someone deliberately put on a show for me."
I followed his gaze to see Leopold's smile.
"Ethan, who the hell are you to make me put on a performance for you?"
"I gave you two chances to stay away from my woman. But you got worse instead. You really think I won't touch you?"
Seeing the two about to go head-to-head again, I quickly spoke up.
"There's another way to prove whether Leopold is Leo."
Ethan looked pleasantly surprised. "Cindy, what is it?"
I sat down calmly, glancing at Leo, then at Leopold across from me.
I said evenly, "When the hotel caught fire, Leo burned his right arm saving me. That was only a few days ago. The wound shouldn't have healed yet."
"We just need to check if Leopold's right arm has a burn. Then everything will be clear."
Ethan looked at Leopold again. "Mr. Percy, please roll up your right sleeve and show us."
"Mr. Percy." Barry seemed to want to say something, but stopped.
Seeing his somewhat serious expression, my heart unconsciously tensed.
The sharpness in Leopold's eyes suddenly turned mocking.
"You want to see, so I should just comply?"
I felt anxious. "If you have nothing to hide, just do it. Otherwise, this will never be settled."
Leopold looked toward me. After a moment, he raised an eyebrow. "I can show you, but let me be clear—I won't let this slide."
"If you're going to do this, be prepared to face the consequences."
I frowned slightly, somewhat hesitant.
But Ethan stood up. "I'm the one who brought this up. I'll take full responsibility for the consequences. Don't make things difficult for Cindy."
He pushed past Barry and walked to Leopold's right side, grabbing his sleeve and rolling it up.
I quickly looked.
Leopold's exposed arm had smooth, firm skin with clearly defined muscle.
Not a single trace of injury!
