Chapter 62
Chapter 62
I stormed out of my room and into the hallway, my heart racing with anger and hurt. I saw the maids standing there, whispering and glancing at me with a mixture of curiosity and judgment. I marched right up to them, my hands on my hips.
"Listen to me, both of you," I said, my voice firm and commanding. "I knew what you were saying about me and Marco. And let me tell you, it isn't true. I am still married to Xavier, and I would never cheat on him. Ever."
The maids looked taken aback by my outburst, but I didn't care. I was tired of being gossiped about and lied about. I was tired of being the victim of rumors and speculation.
"Mind your own business," I continued, my voice rising. "What I did was none of your concern. And as for Marco, he is my husband's brother. Nothing can ever happen between us."
The maids nodded, looking sheepish, but I could tell they didn't believe me. They thought they knew the truth, and they were just waiting for me to slip up so they could pounce.
"Well, just remember," I said, my eyes narrowing. "I am watching you both. And if I heard one more rumor or whisper about me and Marco, there would be consequences. Do you understand?"
The maids nodded again, this time looking scared. Good. They should have been scared. I was Avery, and I wouldn't be pushed around or gossiped about without a fight.
I went back inside and grabbed my phone from the bedside table. As I unlocked it, I couldn't help but smile as I saw Xavier's face staring back at me. He was my phone wallpaper, and every time I saw his smile, my heart skipped a beat.
I sat down on the bed and began scrolling through our videos. There were so many happy memories, and I couldn't help but laugh and cry as I watched them. There was the video of our wedding day, our honeymoon, and our countless adventures together.
As I watched, I felt a wave of nostalgia wash over me. I missed him so much, and it hurt to think that we were apart. But seeing his face and reliving our memories made me feel closer to him.
I watched a video of us laughing and dancing together, and I couldn't help but giggle. We were so happy, so in love. I felt a pang of sadness, knowing that things had changed, but I pushed it aside and kept watching.
As I scrolled through our videos, I came across one of us cuddling on the couch. Xavier was whispering sweet nothings in my ear, and I was giggling and blushing. I felt my heart flutter as I watched, and I couldn't help but reach out and touch the screen.
"Xavier," I whispered, my voice cracking with emotion. "I miss you so much."
Tears began to fall as I watched, and I let them flow. I was happy to have these memories, to have had the time we did together. And I knew that no matter what happened, our love would endure.
I turned off my lamp and settled into bed, trying to calm my racing thoughts. I had finally started to relax, my eyelids growing heavy, when I heard the creak of my door opening. My heart skipped a beat as I froze, my senses on high alert.
At first, I thought it might be one of the maids or my father-in-law, coming to check on me. But then I heard the soft footsteps, the gentle hesitation in the doorway. It was someone who didn't want to be seen, someone who was trying to be quiet.
My mind raced with possibilities, my heart pounding in my chest. Who could it be? And what did they want?
I lay there, frozen, as the footsteps drew closer. I could sense a presence beside my bed, could feel the weight of someone's gaze upon me.
"Xavier?" I whispered, my voice barely audible.
There was no answer, but the presence didn't go away. I felt a hand reach out, a gentle touch on my shoulder.
My heart leapt with hope, with longing. Could it be? Was Xavier really here?
I turned to face the presence, my eyes straining in the darkness.
I turned on the light, my heart racing with anticipation. But instead of Xavier's familiar face, I saw Marco's stern expression. My heart sank, and I felt a wave of fear wash over me.
Marco's eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched in anger. He grabbed my hand tightly, his grip like a vice. I tried to pull away, but he held me fast.
"Lilith," he growled, his voice low and menacing. "We need to talk."
I tried to speak, but my voice caught in my throat. I was trapped, unable to move or escape. Marco's glare was like a knife, cutting through my defenses.
"What do you want, Marco?" I managed to stammer, trying to hide my fear.
Marco's grip tightened, his eyes blazing with intensity. "You know exactly what I want," he hissed. "You've been playing games with me, Lilith. Games you can't win."
I felt a chill run down my spine as Marco's words dripped with malice. I was in grave danger, and I knew it.
Marco's eyes flashed with anger as he spat out his demand. "Step down as acting CEO, Lilith. You're not fit to run this company."
I couldn't help but laugh, a cold, mirthless sound. "You think you can just waltz in here and demand I step down? You're delusional, Marco."
With my free hand, I reached out and slapped him across the face, the sound echoing through the room. "Never barge into my room like that."
"I can walk into your room anytime I want. I'll do whatever I want with you. Your life is in my hands" He yelled.
You ruined Xavier, and now it's my turn to ruin you."
Marco's eyes widened in shock, his grip on my hand tightening. "You'll pay for that," he snarled, his face reddening with rage.
I glared at him, my heart pounding with fury. "I'm not afraid of you, Marco. You've taken everything from me, but I'm not going down without a fight."
With a surge of adrenaline, I wrenched my hand free from Marco's grasp and stood up, towering over him. "You're going to regret ever crossing me," I hissed, my eyes blazing with determination.
I pushed Marco away, my heart racing with anger and fear. "Get out of my room," I demanded, my voice shaking with rage. "Leave now, or I'll shout for help."
Marco sneered at me, his eyes flashing with malice. "You think anyone will believe you?" he taunted. "You're just a scandalous woman trying to cover your tracks."
I felt a surge of fury at his words, and I took a step closer to him. "Leave. Now." I spat out the words, my eyes blazing with anger.
Marco snorted. "You're not even a good liar, Lilith. I can make everyone knows about your little affair with me And soon, everyone will know about your incompetence as CEO."
My heart skipped a beat at his threats, but I refused to back down. "How many times will I tell you I'm not Lilith? Get out," I repeated, my voice firm.
Marco smirked. "Fine, but this isn't over. I'll ruin you, Lilith. You'll pay for what you've done."
With that, he turned and walked out of my room, leaving me shaken and furious. I slammed the door behind him and locked it, my heart racing with fear and anger. How dare he threaten me? I was Avery, the CEO of this company. I wouldn't go down without a fight.
I followed Marco out of my room, my heart still racing with anger and fear. I wanted to make sure he was really leaving. As I stepped into the hallway, I saw him walking away, his back to me. I watched as he disappeared around the corner, feeling a sense of relief wash over me.
But as I turned to go back to my room, I saw the maids again, standing at the hallway their eyes fixed on me with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion. I sighed, feeling frustrated and trapped. Can't they just leave me alone?
I shook my head and went back to my room, closing the door behind me. I leaned against the door, trying to calm myself down. I couldn't let Marco get to me. I had to stay strong.
As I stood there, I couldn't help but think about Xavier. What is he doing? Was he okay? I missed him so much, and I wished he was here with me.
I took a deep breath and pushed away from the door, trying to shake off the feeling of loneliness. I had to focus on myself now. I had to protect myself from Marco and his threats.
I walked over to my bed and sat down, trying to calm my racing thoughts. I knew I had to be strong, but it was hard when everything seemed to be against me.
I took a deep breath and grabbed my laptop, determination coursing through my veins. I had to impress the board members tomorrow and secure my position as CEO until Xavier returned. I couldn't let Marco's threats and intimidation tactics get to me.
I opened my laptop and began reviewing my presentation, my mind focused on the task at hand. I had to show the board that I was capable and competent, that I had a clear vision for the company's future.
As I worked, I felt a sense of calm wash over me. This was what I was good at - business, strategy, leadership. I was in my element.
I spent the next few hours fine-tuning my presentation, making sure every detail was perfect. I practiced my delivery, anticipating any questions the board might throw my way.
Finally, feeling confident and prepared, I closed my laptop and stood up. I was ready for tomorrow. Bring it on, I thought, a fierce determination burning within me.
I walked over to my bed and lay down, my mind still racing with thoughts of the presentation. But as I closed my eyes, I felt a sense of exhaustion wash over me. I knew I had to rest, to be sharp and focused for tomorrow.
Tomorrow, I would show them all what I was made of. Tomorrow, I would secure my position as CEO and prove that I was a force to be reckoned with but I couldn't sleep. I felt something was missing in my presentation and then Sophia crossed my mind.
I quickly grabbed my phone and dialed my personal assistant's number, my mind racing with anticipation. "Hey, Sophia, it's me. I need those documents we discussed earlier sent to me immediately. I need to review them before my presentation tomorrow."
Sophia's voice was calm and professional on the other end of the line. "Of course, Mrs Presly. I'll send them right over. Do you need anything else?"
I felt a sense of relief wash over me. "No, that's all for now. Thank you, Sophia. You're a lifesaver."
As I waited for the documents to arrive, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nervous energy. Tomorrow was a big day. I had to nail this presentation and convince the board that I was the right person to lead this company.
My phone buzzed, signaling the arrival of the documents. I quickly opened them and began reviewing the contents, my heart racing with excitement. This was it. This was my chance to shine.
As I read through the documents, I felt a sense of confidence growing inside me. I had this. I was prepared. I was going to crush this presentation and show the board what I was made of.
With renewed determination, I closed my laptop and stood up, my eyes fixed on the ceiling. "Tomorrow, I'm going to own that room," I whispered to myself, a fierce grin spreading across my face. Bring it on.
I finished reviewing the documents and felt a sense of satisfaction wash over me. I was ready for tomorrow. I was prepared.
I closed my laptop and stood up, stretching my arms above my head. I was tired, but I felt a sense of excitement and anticipation. Tomorrow was going to be a big day.
I walked over to my bed and pulled back the covers, slipping into the cool, crisp sheets. I felt a sense of relief wash over me as I lay down, my body relaxing into the mattress.
As I lay there, I couldn't help but think about Xavier. I missed him so much, and I wished he was here with me. But I knew I had to be strong, for both of us.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, feeling my eyelids grow heavy. I was ready for tomorrow. I was ready to face whatever came my way.
As I drifted off to sleep, I felt a sense of peace wash over me. I knew I had this. I knew I was going to be okay.
Tomorrow, I would face the board and show them what I was made of. Tomorrow, I would make Xavier proud.
With that thought, I fell into a deep and restful sleep, my dreams filled with visions of success and triumph.
