Chapter 49
Chapter 49
I woke up with a sense of determination, ready to face whatever lay ahead. I got dressed and made my way out of the room, my heart racing with anticipation. But as I got out of the room in search of Xavier, I was met with a cold shoulder. He was inside another room close to ours. Xavier was sitting on the bed, his eyes fixed on his phone, his expression unreadable.
"Xavier?" I said, my voice tentative.
He didn't even flinch, didn't even acknowledge my presence. It was as if I didn't exist.
I felt a pang of hurt, a sting of rejection. I had expected him to be angry, but this? This was something else entirely.
"Xavier, please," I said, my voice cracking. "Talk to me."
But he just kept ignoring me, his eyes glued to his phone.
I felt a wave of emotions wash over me - sadness, anger, frustration. How could he do this to me? Didn't he know how much I loved him?
I tried to reach out to him, to touch his arm, but he flinched away, his expression still unreadable.
"Xavier, please," I begged. "Don't shut me out."
But he just kept ignoring me, his silence deafening.
I felt tears prick at the corners of my eyes, my heart heavy with sorrow. I realized then that I had lost him, that he was gone.
I tried to stop him, to reach out and grab his arm, but he ignored me. He just kept walking, his eyes fixed on some point ahead.
"Xavier, please," I begged, my voice cracking. "Don't do this."
But he didn't even flinch. He just kept going, leaving me behind.
I ran after him, my heart racing. I couldn't let him go like this.
"Xavier, baby," I said, grabbing his hand.
But he pushed me away, gently but firmly.
"Lilith, don't," he said, his voice cold. "I need some space."
I felt a pang of hurt, a sting of rejection. I had never seen him like this before.
"Xavier, please," I begged, trying to grab his hand again.
But he pulled away, his eyes avoiding mine.
"Lilith, I mean it," he said, his voice firm. "I need some space. Just leave me alone."
I felt tears prick at the corners of my eyes, my heart heavy with sorrow. I realized then that I had lost him, that he was gone.
And with that realization, I let go of his hand, and he walked away from me, leaving me standing alone in the darkness.
I walked into the kitchen, my heart still heavy with sorrow. I didn't know what to do, how to reach Xavier. But then I remembered, he loved food. Maybe, just maybe, if I made him his favorite breakfast, he would talk to me.
I began by cracking eggs into a bowl, the shells cracking as I dropped them in. I whisked them together with a fork, adding a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Then I heated a pan over medium heat, the butter melting as I poured it in.
I poured the eggs into the pan, the mixture sizzling as it hit the hot surface. I stirred them gently, watching as they began to set. I added a sprinkle of shredded cheese, the melted strings stretching across the eggs.
As the eggs finished cooking, I toasted some bread, the crispy slices popping up from the toaster. I buttered them lightly, the aroma of freshly baked bread filling the kitchen.
I placed the eggs on a plate, adding a few slices of bacon on the side. I carried the tray into the dinning room, where Xavier was sitting on the chair, his eyes fixed on his phone.
"Babe, I made you breakfast," I said, my voice soft.
He looked up, his eyes narrowing slightly as he saw the food. But he didn't say anything, just looked back at his phone.
I felt a pang of disappointment, but I didn't give up. I placed the tray on the coffee table in front of him, the aroma of eggs and bacon filling the air.
"Xavier, please," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "Eat something. You need to eat."
He looked up again, his eyes searching mine. For a moment, I thought I saw a glimmer of something, a spark of connection. But then it was gone, and he looked away.
I felt a tear roll down my cheek, my heart heavy with sorrow. Maybe food wasn't the answer. Maybe nothing was.
I sat in the dining room, the tray of food I had made for Xavier still in front of him, untouched. I had hoped that he would see the effort I had put into making his favorite breakfast, and maybe, just maybe, it would bring us back together.
But as I sat there, I heard the sound of the maids coming into the room, carrying trays of food. They placed them in front of Xavier, and he immediately began to eat, his eyes fixed on the food as if he was starving.
I felt a pang of hurt and betrayal as I watched him eat the maids' food, ignoring the breakfast I had made for him. It was as if he was trying to show me that he didn't need me, that he could get what he wanted from someone else.
I tried to hold back tears as I watched him eat, my heart feeling heavy with sorrow. I had never felt so alone, so unwanted.
As Xavier finished his meal, the maids took the trays away, and he still didn't acknowledge me. It was as if I was invisible, as if I didn't exist.
I got up from the table, my chair scraping against the floor. I couldn't take this anymore, I needed to get out of here. I walked out of the dining room, leaving Xavier and his silence behind.
I sat on the bed, my eyes fixed on the door as Xavier walked in. He was here to grab his laptop, I knew that much. But maybe, just maybe, he would talk to me this time.
"Xavier, please," I said, my voice soft. "Can we talk?"
He didn't even look at me, his eyes fixed on the laptop. "I don't have time for this, Lilith," he said, his voice cold.
I felt a pang of hurt, but I tried again. "Xavier, please. I know you're upset. But we need to talk about this."
This time, he looked at me, his eyes flashing with anger. "You think I'm upset?" he said, his voice rising. "You have no idea what I'm feeling right now."
I saw his fist clench, his knuckles white with tension. I knew I needed to back off, but I couldn't help myself. "Xavier, please," I said, my voice shaking. "Don't shut me out. We can work through this."
But he just turned and walked away, leaving me alone in the room. I felt a tear roll down my cheek as I realized that he was gone, really gone. And I didn't know how to get him back.
I followed him, my heart racing with every step. I couldn't let him go, not like this. I needed to make him understand, to make him see that I was sorry.
"Xavier, please," I begged, my voice echoing down the hallway.
But he didn't even flinch. He just kept walking, his back to me.
I quickened my pace, my feet pounding against the floor. I reached out to grab his arm, to spin him around and make him face me.
But he was too fast. He shook me off, his arm slipping from my grasp. And then, in a movement that made my heart stop, he pushed me away.
I didn't expect it. I didn't see it coming. And so I wasn't prepared when my elbow hit the wall with a sickening thud.
Pain exploded through my arm, making my vision blur. I cried out, my voice echoing off the walls.
But Xavier didn't even look back. He just kept walking, leaving me crumpled against the wall.
I slid to the floor, my elbow throbbing in agony. I felt tears prick at the corners of my eyes, my heart heavy with sorrow.
Why was he doing this? Why was he pushing me away?
I knew I had hurt him, but I had never meant to. And I had apologized, over and over again.
But it seemed like no matter what I did, he was determined to shut me out.
And so I sat there, my elbow aching, my heart broken. I knew I had to let him go, to give him space.
But it was hard, so hard. Because all I wanted was to make things right between us.
I slowly got up from the floor, my elbow throbbing in pain. I knew I had to clean and cover it, but the thought of moving was almost too much to bear. Tears streamed down my face as I made my way to the bathroom, my heart heavy with sorrow.
I turned on the faucet and let the cool water run over my elbow, washing away the dirt and blood. I winced in pain as I cleaned the wound, my tears falling into the sink.
After I finished cleaning it, I dried it with a towel and covered it with a bandage. I looked at my reflection in the mirror and saw a person I didn't recognize. My eyes were puffy from crying, and my face was pale.
I felt so alone, so lost. I didn't know how to make things right with Xavier, and I didn't know how to ease the pain in my heart.
I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself down, but it was no use. I started crying again, my body shaking with sobs.
I slid down to the floor, my back against the sink, and let the tears flow. I cried for the pain in my elbow, for the hurt in my heart, and for the loss of the relationship I had with Xavier.
As I sat there, I realized that I had to let him go. I had to move on and focus on myself. But the thought of living without him was almost too much to bear.
I don't know how long I sat there, crying and mourning the loss of our relationship. But eventually, I got up, washed my face, and went to bed, hoping that tomorrow would be a better day.
I was lying in bed, trying to rest and calm my mind, when I heard the door burst open. I sat up to see my mother-in-law, Xavier's mom, standing in the doorway with a stern look on her face.
"Lilith, I need the car keys," she said, her voice firm.
I was taken aback. "What car keys?" I asked, confused.
"Don't play dumb, Lilith," she said, her eyes narrowing. "I know you took the keys to the Bentley. I need them now."
I shook my head. "I didn't take any car keys," I said, trying to stay calm.
She took a step closer to me. "Don't lie to me, Lilith. I know you have them. Are you trying to keep me from using my son's car?"
I was starting to get frustrated. "I didn't take the car keys, and I didn't drive the Bentley," I said, my voice firm.
She scoffed. "You're just trying to cover your tracks. I know you've been using the car for your own purposes. Hand over the keys now."
I threw up my hands. "I don't have the keys! And even if I did, I wouldn't give them to you, It's Xavier s. You have no right to accuse me like this."
She glared at me. "Fine. If you're going to play it that way, I'll just have to take the keys myself."
She started searching my room, tossing through my drawers and closets. I watched in disbelief as she rummaged through my belongings.
"Stop!" I said, my voice loud. "You can't just search my room like this!"
She turned to me, a triumphant look on her face. "Ah-ha! I knew I'd find them."
But when she held up the keys, I saw that they weren't the Bentley's keys at all. They were a set of old keys I had found in the house and put in my drawer for safekeeping.
"Those aren't the car keys," I said, my voice shaking with anger. "And even if they were, you have no right to search my room like this."
She looked at me, her face red with anger. "You're just trying to cover your tracks, Lilith. But I'm not buying it. Where are the car keys Lilith? Stop messing with me."
