Chapter 87 Because You Are Not Worthy
"I wanna know what's happening too. Why did someone throw a cup of water at me as soon as I walked in?"
Sophia sneered, her icy gaze fixed on Amelia and Celestia in the living room.
Amelia hadn't expected Alaric and Benjamin to come back so soon.
She glanced at their grim expressions, a flicker of panic crossing her eyes.
Before Sophia arrived at the White Manor, Benjamin and Alaric rarely came home on time.
So, she'd felt bold enough to mess with Sophia.
But now...
Amelia clenched her fists, a sudden unease settling in her heart.
Benjamin quickly pulled Sophia into his arms, checking her over with concern.
"Are you okay? Did you get hurt?"
Sophia waved him off with a smile. "I'm fine, but it was a close call."
She wasn't lying.
If she hadn't dodged in time, that cup would've hit her.
Benjamin's face darkened instantly, his sharp eyes boring into Amelia and Celestia.
"Tell me, who threw it?"
His voice was low and cold, exuding a powerful presence that made it hard to breathe.
Amelia was startled by his demeanor and quickly waved her hands. "It wasn't me, it wasn't me! I didn't mean to."
She was just angry and lost control for a moment.
It wasn't her fault!
"There are only two of you here. If it wasn't you, then who?"
Benjamin scoffed and turned his gaze to Celestia.
Celestia's heart skipped a beat, and she shook her head frantically. "Benjamin, it wasn't me! I swear! Amelia doesn't like Sophia and wanted to teach her a lesson."
Celestia had been pampered all her life and never faced any hardship.
So when she saw the murderous look in Benjamin's eyes, she panicked.
Amelia stared at Celestia in shock, disbelief in her eyes.
"Celestia, how could you say that? It was clearly you..."
Celestia's eyes reddened, and she started to sob. "Amelia, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it. I was just so scared. Benjamin looked so angry..."
Celestia suddenly remembered the task Arabella had given her and quickly changed her attitude.
She couldn't afford to fall out with Amelia now.
The fate of the White Family was still in Benjamin's hands.
If they angered Amelia, their plan would fail.
Hearing this, Amelia's attitude softened a bit.
She knew it.
Celestia had always been obedient and sensible, and was Magnolia's good friend.
How could she abandon her?
She calmed down and defended herself quietly. "I just lost my grip for a moment. I didn't do it on purpose!"
Amelia's mind raced for a solution.
Benjamin's affection for Sophia was beyond excessive.
If she didn't back down, who knew what crazy thing Benjamin might do?
So she couldn't admit she did it on purpose.
"If you can throw it that far by accident, you should try out for the Olympics. The shot put event would suit you." Sophia crossed her arms, mocking coldly.
Anyone with eyes could see that Amelia did it on purpose.
Alaric's face darkened, and he questioned quietly, "Mom, do you think we're all fools? Why did you do this?"
Alaric couldn't believe Amelia would do such a thing.
He always knew she had low emotional intelligence, but he didn't realize she could be so cruel.
"Alaric, listen to me. I really didn't mean to..."
Facing Alaric's disappointed eyes, Amelia panicked.
She could ignore Benjamin's thoughts, but she couldn't bear for Alaric to lose faith in her.
Alaric had always been her pride.
If it weren't for Benjamin, Alaric would definitely inherit the White Group.
This was one of the reasons Amelia resented Benjamin.
"Mom, the facts are clear. I have eyes. Why are you targeting Sophia?"
"Alaric, you don't believe me? You actually don't believe me?"
Amelia looked at Alaric in shock, disbelief in her eyes.
"I only believe the facts. You were wrong here, and you should apologize to Sophia." Alaric shook his head helplessly.
Amelia was truly foolish.
Sophia was not only part of the White Family but also their savior.
No matter what Sophia did, Amelia had no right to hurt her like this.
"She's been married into the White Family for over a month and has never once called me 'Mom,' and now she's turning Benjamin against me! Why should I apologize to her?" Amelia's eyes reddened, filled with grievance and sorrow.
Celestia was right.
Before Sophia came, Benjamin was cold but still respectful to her.
Since Sophia arrived, everything changed.
Benjamin even argued with her for that country bumpkin.
And to make matters worse, Benjamin bought Sophia a seven-million-dollar evening gown!
Even she, his biological mother, wasn't treated that well.
What made Sophia so special?
Alaric was stunned by Amelia's deep resentment towards Sophia.
"First of all, I don't call you 'Mom' because you don't deserve it."
As Alaric pondered how to persuade her, a clear, resolute voice came from behind him.
Hearing Sophia's firm and cold words, Alaric couldn't help but pause.
Sophia sneered and walked slowly to stand before Amelia.
"You accuse me of turning Benjamin against you. Where's your proof?"
Facing Sophia's clear eyes, Amelia faltered, instinctively wanting to speak.
But when she opened her mouth, her mind went blank.
She had no proof.
It was all speculation.
But she firmly believed it was true!
Sophia saw the change in Amelia's expression and couldn't help but laugh.
"Mrs. Amelia White, you had a higher education, right?" she asked quietly.
"What do you mean?" Amelia frowned, not understanding.
"Exactly what I said. If you had a higher education, you should know how to behave."
Sophia stood before Amelia, her eyes cold.
"Ask yourself, how have you treated Benjamin all these years? You've never fulfilled your role as a mother, yet you expect him to be respectful and filial? Why?"
Amelia was struck by her words, as if hit by lightning.
Even Celestia, who had been trying to make herself small, was stunned.
She hadn't expected Sophia to be so strong.
Seeing the cold light in Sophia's eyes, Celestia suddenly felt a chill run through her.
