Chapter 70 Jealousy
Seeing her enjoy her meal, Benjamin couldn't help but smile a little.
He leaned back in his chair, his gaze following Sophia's hand as she picked up food.
A thought suddenly popped into his mind. 'Thankfully, Sophia has returned to my side after seventeen years.'
Benjamin suddenly thought of Zander.
Luckily, Zander hadn't realized how wonderful Sophia was, otherwise...
The thought of the engagement between Sophia and Zander made Benjamin's heart ache with jealousy.
His Sophia was precious beyond measure, and Zander was completely unworthy of her!
"Sophia, are you engaged to Zander?"
"Zander? Who's that?" Sophia paused mid-bite, suddenly recognizing the name.
She was stunned for several seconds before she remembered who Zander was.
Unaware that her instinctive reaction pleased Benjamin.
Benjamin's smile grew slightly, his eyes reflecting a dazzling light.
"He's not important," Benjamin said.
Sophia put down her utensils, took a big gulp of water, and said to Benjamin, "Oh, now I remember! Zander... he's Isabella's fiancé!"
Seeing her seriously pondering something, Benjamin thought she was thinking about another man.
He quickly leaned in and whispered in Sophia's ear, "You remember him that clearly?"
Sophia didn't notice Benjamin's jealousy and honestly replied, "I saw him this morning. He and Isabella bizarrely claimed that I liked him!"
Mentioning this, Sophia's face scrunched up in disdain. "That Zander is nowhere near as handsome as you, my husband! How could I like such an ordinary and overconfident man?"
In Sophia's heart, no one could compare to Benjamin!
Thinking that Benjamin was now hers, Sophia happily leaned over and kissed him on the cheek.
Benjamin was stunned by the sudden kiss, feeling the soft, moist touch on his cheek and the faint fragrance in the air; his heart melted.
Even the jealousy vanished completely, leaving no trace.
Preston came downstairs and saw his usually cold brother Benjamin being kissed by Sophia, standing there frozen like a fool.
He shook his head helplessly, thinking to himself, 'Really, no composure at all. He hasn't learned a bit of my charm from back in the day.'
But seeing their sweet interaction, Preston felt a sense of relief and happiness.
After the meal, Sophia was very satisfied.
She had a unique constitution; once she exerted too much energy, she would easily feel sleepy and weak.
So every time she came out of Alaric's lab, Sophia felt like a fish out of water, completely drained and wanting nothing more than to sleep.
She had slept for a full five hours that afternoon, and now, after a hearty meal, Sophia felt revived.
Benjamin sat beside her, gently rubbing her slightly round belly with a mix of helplessness and concern.
"If it's too hard, take a couple of days off. The poison has been in my body for twenty-four years; a couple more days won't matter."
Seeing Sophia so dedicated to researching an antidote for him, Benjamin felt both happy and heartbroken.
"It's okay. I'm not tired, I just have a special constitution," Sophia quickly reassured him, patting her chest when she saw his worried expression.
"My research has already made some initial progress. I just got the latest basic data yesterday." Talking about this, Sophia's face lit up with joy and excitement.
"So soon?" Benjamin looked surprised.
He knew Sophia was highly skilled in medicine, even praised by Elijah.
But he hadn't expected her to be so outstanding in medical research as well.
Alaric had previously tried to conduct similar research but had come up empty-handed.
Three years ago, Alaric had even brought in the most renowned medical team from abroad to study the poison in Benjamin's body.
But after a long time, they had found nothing.
For Sophia to make progress so quickly, it was clear her medical skills far surpassed Alaric's.
She might even be ahead of seasoned experts like Elijah.
Benjamin was secretly amazed, but more than that, he felt proud.
His Sophia was truly remarkable.
There probably wasn't another girl in the world as smart, beautiful, and sweet as Sophia.
Benjamin reached out and held Sophia's soft, delicate hand tightly, feeling a mix of sourness and gratitude in his heart.
It must have been fate hearing his pleas, sending Sophia to save him.
Sophia had no idea about the storm of emotions in Benjamin's heart.
She looked at their clasped hands, her lips curling into a smile.
Benjamin was holding her hand.
Benjamin's hand was broad and warm, calloused from years of work, completely different from her own.
"Honey, are you praising me?" Sophia asked.
"Yes, Sophia, you're amazing. You're the most outstanding girl I've ever met."
Benjamin lifted his hand and gently ruffled Sophia's fluffy hair.
Sophia squinted her eyes, rubbing her head against Benjamin's palm like a purring kitten.
Benjamin's cold heart instantly melted.
Suppressing the urge to kiss her, Benjamin reluctantly looked away. "By the way, the girl who threw hot water at you has been taken to the police station. According to the investigation, she is indeed a fan of Isabella."
Mentioning this, Benjamin's eyes turned icy.
He asked in a low voice, "How do you plan to handle this?"
Sophia's attention was still on Benjamin's hand.
Seeing him let go, Sophia pouted unhappily.
Childishly, she pulled his hand back, placing it on top of her own again.
Seeing their hands intertwined once more, Sophia's face showed satisfaction. "This matter can be big or small. This morning, Isabella deliberately stopped me at Stellar University, pretending to care about me, just to create this situation today. But she seems to have forgotten, I'm not one to be trifled with."
Sophia squinted her eyes, smiling with a mischievous glint.
Her face was warm and innocent, looking completely harmless.
But her words were icy cold.
Benjamin rarely saw Sophia like this and couldn't help but raise an eyebrow in curiosity.
He understood now.
The happier Sophia smiled, the worse the outcome for the other person.
The last time he saw her smile like this was when she nearly scared Lily into fainting.
After that day, Lily took a whole week off.
