Chapter 48 She Is Not Someone You Can Covet
Jeremy didn't catch what Steven and Aurora were talking about, but he just heard "entertainment industry."
Seeing that Sophia hadn't said anything, Jeremy figured she didn't know who he was, so he quickly introduced himself. "Oh, hey. I'm Jeremy Sterling. You heard of the Sterling family? Yeah, that Sterling family!"
"Our family owns an entertainment company. If you want, I can hook you up with the best resources we have."
Jeremy was really thankful his family had an entertainment company right about now.
Sophia seemed like she was made for him.
Everything about her fit his taste perfectly.
But as soon as he finished talking, he got some serious stink-eye.
He turned and saw his teachers, Aurora and Steven, one sitting next to Sophia and the other across from her.
They seemed pretty tight with Sophia.
Right now, Aurora and Steven were glaring at him like they wanted to rip him apart.
"Jeremy, did you really just say that?"
"Listen, Sophia isn't someone you can just go after. Drop it."
Jeremy couldn't help but laugh.
He ran a hand through his hair, laughing openly, "Come on. I'm in college now. You can't control who I date or chase after. Besides, Sophia hasn't said anything yet."
Sophia looked up and asked slowly, "Who are you? Do we even know each other?"
Jeremy was quiet for a second, then he winked at her. "I paid for your meal at the cafeteria. Remember? Hey, don't get the wrong idea. I just want to be friends. If you're cool with it, we can swap numbers."
Sophia pulled out a napkin and wiped the oil from the corner of her mouth.
Every move she made was so elegant and classy; she was a joy to watch.
Jeremy was captivated, his eyes lighting up.
Sophia felt his intense stare and frowned. "I don't have a phone. Plus, I already have a boyfriend."
"No way!" Jeremy's face fell.
Aurora jumped in, "Sophia does have a boyfriend, Jeremy. She was invited by Dr. White for research. She's not someone you can pursue."
She patted Jeremy's shoulder and left with Sophia.
Kids these days, no respect for relationships.
They just did whatever they wanted.
If Alaric knew Sophia was being hit on her first day, who knew what he would think?
Aurora suddenly felt a bit curious.
Hannah, who had been hanging back quietly, was trying to stay out of sight.
Seeing someone already going after Sophia as soon as she got to school made her a bit jealous.
But then she thought, 'What's the point of being so pretty? The guy she's going to marry is Benjamin. And who is Benjamin? Even though he handles all the White family's finances, he's been poisoned and probably doesn't have much time left. Marrying that sick guy, even if Benjamin survives, she'll probably end up alone. After Benjamin dies, she'll likely be seen as bad luck.'
Thinking this way, Hannah suddenly realized there wasn't much to envy about Sophia after all.
She smiled to herself, daydreaming about catching Alaric's eye.
If she could marry Alaric, she would be part of the White Family.
When Benjamin eventually passes, Alaric would inherit the White Family.
Then she'd be the wealthy woman everyone envied!
While Hannah was lost in her fantasy, someone gave her shoulder a hard slap.
She looked up, startled, to see Steven's puzzled face. "What's got you grinning like that?"
Hannah touched her cheek, realizing she had let her thoughts show, and quickly composed herself, shaking her head at Steven. "Oh, nothing."
Steven studied her face for a moment, then shook his head and strode ahead.
In the afternoon, Alaric had all the materials Sophia needed ready.
He stood behind her, watching her work with precision, his eyes filled with admiration.
What amazed Alaric the most was Sophia's speed and accuracy in conducting experiments.
If she wasn't intimately familiar with the process, there was no way she could work this fast.
Even Alaric himself wouldn't dare to rush like that.
But Sophia not only worked methodically, she made no mistakes.
Her talent was truly remarkable.
Alaric had no doubt that if Sophia continued in the medical field, she would become a shining star.
As time passed, Sophia's shoulders began to ache.
She stretched lazily, and Alaric stepped forward. "I'll take over from here. You go rest for a bit."
"Okay." Sophia didn't hesitate. She turned and walked to the sofa in the rest area, quickly falling asleep.
When she woke up, it was already six in the evening.
She had slept for a full half hour.
Under the soft light, Sophia curled up on the sofa, slowly opening her eyes.
She rubbed her sleepy eyes and stretched again.
Sophia's slender arms looked stunning under the light.
After a whole afternoon of hard work, Hannah looked at her own arms covered by a lab coat and felt a pang of jealousy.
Why was there such a big difference between people?
What did Sophia eat growing up?
Why was her skin so flawless, almost translucent, with no visible pores?
Sophia had no idea about Hannah's internal struggle. She slowly got up from the sofa, rubbing her eyes as she walked over to Alaric.
Seeing her awake, Alaric, who was focused on his experiment, quickly smiled. "Sophia, you're up?"
Sophia, still groggy from sleep, looked adorably cute.
She smiled slowly and then lowered her head again, looking like she hadn't fully woken up.
Growing up, Sophia had never worked on something so intensely for such a long time, except when Robert forced her to learn his skills day and night.
Over time, Sophia began to feel a bit fatigued.
She looked completely worn out, like she had no energy left.
Alaric naturally noticed Sophia's condition.
He quickly put down his equipment and said softly to Steven, "I'm taking Sophia home for today. You all should head back early too."
As soon as he said this, everyone looked shocked.
